Time for an Upgrade.

on Wednesday, October, 04, 2006 2:52 PM
Looking at todays games I have decided that my current system:

3000+ AMD Athlon 64
2gig DDR RAM 3200
x800 256mb graphics

Just dont cut it so I've upgraded to this:

4400+ AMD Athlong 64 X2 (dual core) 2mb cache
2gig DDR Ram 3200
256 9800 gforce SLI graphics card (pci express)

Should keep the games running good for atleast a year or too lol. I am a resource hog!

That's a seriously nice rig you've upgraded to, laphtiya.

Me, I won't be upgrading until some time next year. My current 4 year old system will have to keep me going a little longer.

Basically, once Vista has been out for a while, and when Bioshock comes out: that's when I'll upgrade.

Hopefully, that will take long enough that the new quad-core processors will have arrived by that point.

True I wanna upgrade to Vista but with my windows x64 OS I can still use the dual core features. Now here is the thing, most games at the moment do not use the dual core abilities of the processors and it will be even longer before applications and prigrams start to use quad core.

However there are some games such as:

Half life 2
Oblivion
F.E.A.R.
Quake 4
and I think Medieval 2

Are dual core compatible. However you can still play old games on dual core all that means is tthe background programs run off one core while the game runs off the other meaning you can have as many things going on in the background as you want and it will not slow the game down.

However the new Quad core that intel are trying to produce will really be a waste of money until programs start to use Dual core as standard. Simply because you can really use up one core of a processor with background programs, unless your running something like SETI@home (however this only uses excess processing power and drops down when you run more programs). So unless your running a program which uses more than 2 cores your not gonna truly see the benefits of the quad cores.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

You're right, and I'm not actually interested in a quad-core processor. I just want to wait until they're released, so I can pick up a motherboard that supports them.

So that way I can buy a dual-core and save my money, while at the same time picking up a mobo that is somewhat future-proof.

As for Vista, I'm really torn about it. On the one hand, I look forward to it. I think it has a lot of worthwhile updates, and will help revive PC gaming. But I think Vista itself is way too expensive, and I despise all the DRM technology that's been added to it. I'm hoping I'll still be able to buy a motherboard without the TPM feature, next year.

You should not have a problem per se. It might be faster with 2 processor. Since the OS will take the advantage of having 2 processors one chips. Since it can dedicate one of the two cores to the Operating system and the other one to the game itslef. The game would not know about this unless it was specifically programmed to detect the second processor or core in this case. There are few programs that can do this a couple of real programs that do take advantage of this are programs like Oracle 10G ( http://otn.oracle.com ), Sybase, and a few other applications that are multi processor intensive packages. These are just examples though. There are other OS that do and will take advantage of 2 or more processors. Linux is one capabe of 32 I believe I could be miss quoting here I'll have to double check on that part to make sure. Windows 2000, XP home and XP pro are able to use 2 CPU's.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

I've seen some thing from vista throughout the net and for myself personally. Windows 2000 is the last OS that I'll be ever using from MS. Windows vista for me doesn't make me want it at all. I am slowly moving to linux personally on my other computers over here. And not to try to convert others here ether. Just gving opinion abuot the vista. And since I hardly play any games wtih the exceptiom of tron 2.0. ANd that is about it.

Warning Do not upgrade to dual core!!!! the increase in performace on Tron 2.0 will seriously damage your social life if not kill it off completely :-p lol!

Gotta say guys its a sweet set up dual core is the way games will start going. Games like Oblivion and F.E.A.R run at maximum graphics at resolutions of around 1280 x 960

I ordered my parts from www.scan.co.uk

Probably a good place to start comparing some prices for those of you who are looking to upgrade in the near future. The Girlfriend is happy lol I gave her my old computer she just needs a hard drive and some RAM to get it up and running, which I plan on getting soon so I can get on my damn computer LOL!!!abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion
