I'm looking for a good free (NOT illegally free, legitimately free) audio editing application that would allow me to alter sounds to the extent of making my voice sound like the MCP - with altered pitch and... whatever that effect is called where multiple voices of the same voice is heard (if that makes any sense).
I'm not looking to recreate the MCP's voice, but if the audio package can do that, then it can do what I'm actually looking for it to do.
There are tons of free audio editing applications out there. I know because I've been looking them up for a while now and have no idea which one(s) to try. They don't spell out features so well and I'd really rather not have to go installing them all until I find the right one.
Ok - what do you know? What's available out there? What do you use?
If there's a decent audio editing package that is low-cost (under $50 USD) that would allow me the effect I seek, I'd consider that too.
HEEEEEELP! Too many things out there and I need some direction!
Thanks in advance for any insight & help you might offer!

Well you can do the same voice thing if you look up audio sound recorder. You can run the application thrice using one application to merge the other 2 together.

Now that's some innovative and creative thinking at work. Neat idea and I appreciate your input. BUT this trick won't do what I need.
I need to be able to alter the pitch of my voice (not just by speeding it up and slowing it down) and produce a multi-like effect over it.
Again, I need to be able to generate an effect like the voice of the MCP. If I can find something that can do that, than it will be able to do what I really need it to do.

A completely free audio program that can help you create an MCP-like voice? That's tough.
Goldwave is almost free, but it will probably nag you to death in the hope that you'll register the program. I'm also not sure if it will be able to create the desired effect.

Other than that, Audacity supports effect plug-ins. And Audacity is completely free. So maybe there will be one or more plug-ins available that can help.

Too bad Cool Edit Pro was bought by Adobe and turned into Audition. Cool Edit was a nice, affordable program before Adobe got their hands on it. Audition is nice and all, but no longer cheap.

Thanks, redrain85. I am a little familiar with Audacity, but it alone does not do the trick. I know it can support plugins, but I'm not sure how to make them or where to find them... perhaps a little more research on that and I can answer my own questions there.

You are NOT the first person I have heard that from! In fact, the reaction I am getting from people I talk to is "What? Adobe bought out Cool Edit? Awww man! Now it's going to cost more and probably suck."
I used a trial version of Cool Edit some time ago. It is a very impressive package, but I was a little too dumb to figure out how to do much with it in the trial period so I just uninstalled it. I wonder if I still have that trial installation in an archive somewhere... but can it still be purchased? If so, it probably still ain't cheap, or at least a little over my budget.
Ok, some more research is needed on my part. Thanks again.
Any other ideas for something free or under $50 (USD), I'd really appreciate it!
Man - this is killing me! I only need that ONE effect! Ok, it is really a combination of two or three effects that make up the effect I'm looking for, but THAT'S ALL! I really can't see investing in something so high-end for JUST a simple effect like this. Blah.

Todd what features are you exactly looking for?? Is there a specific feature that maybe does not exist yet in the other ones that you have ben looking through that are either free through the GNU licensing features for linux and freeware under windows. (Not Pirated stuff that you can find through P2P stuff.) And maybe you can do a search through google of some sort that has the features that you are looking for..

Compucore
VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!
To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.
