Hey folks. Thought I'd drop in to share some news.
I've always unapologetically enjoyed this film. Dated? Campy? FX challanged? Mediocre acting? Yea, but so what? It's great! My young daughter loves it too.
I found myself wishing for a new, well-made version. I should have taken heart it was just a question of time since Hollywierd doesn't make films anymore... they only remake them. As such, here it comes in 2008. Above all, I hope it's cast well. It would be okay to get Ian McKellen for either Zues or Amon, however, new talent/faces would be optimum, I think.
Great effects would be critical as well, however, it seems like effects are the one thing these days that seems at least risk, and considering the original did well enough with effects which were sub-par in even it's own day, perhaps it's a little more forgiving than I might think.
Ray Harryhausen is reportedly not on board with the idea, from what I've been reading.

I will be curious to see what they do, but I really like the original movie. Why remake everything? This is getting ridiculous.

The whole movie remake and reality tv trend really took root after the writer's guild strike ended badly a few years back. Arrogant studio execs thought we'd all be stupid enough to buy their stuff without the creative talent behind it. We didn't go for it.
...right?

I think it's been hit or miss there.
Some things have been decent. What I am getting at is, do they literally have to remake everything? It just seems like they are actively trying to redo every film ever made for some reason. DaveTRON

Well, remakes have proven (for the most part) to be commercially successful. I would have to imagine it's all about the $$ more than anything. If you KNOW you already have an audience (because the previous film was a success), then 1/2 the battle is over. It does seem to be getting a little out of hand.
I loved Clash Of The Titans. I saw it when I was a kid actively playing Dungeons and Dragons. The Medusa freaked me out.

I remember when Clash of the Titans first came out. It seemed to get a LOT of attention on TV (commercials, etc.). Hell, if TRON were promoted half as well, it might have done a lot better with audiences (I mean, audiences might have actually known about it!)
I was excited about the film initially, but then noticed how shoddy the visual FX were. It looked as if they were using visual FX methods taken right out of the late 50's. After films like Star Wars had really raised the bar on visual FX, how could I really enjoy a film that looked so poorly made?
Or at least that's how I felt about this kind of film back then. Poor visuals were a distraction for me, not to mention I just loved excellent, well-done visual FX. Back then good visual FX meant more than just eye-candy (for the most part), it meant that the film (as a whole) was treated with great care and masterfully crafted from all angles. My opinion.
Of course, I do appreciate the film now. I've seen it a few times over the years. The visuals are shoddy, the acting is a far cry from stellar, and the film's pacing lacks a good flow, but I enjoy it.
This is one of those rare opportunities where I say go ahead - lets see the remake. Let's see if they can take everything that didn't work so well the first time around and make it all better. Of course, these days, a film needs a WHOLE lot more than great visual FX to be any good.
My guess is they'll try and make the film too hip in some way. That would pretty much kill it in my book. But I'm curious about it. I hope they do it well.

If the old Clash of the Titans had the very best special effects and acting, it would obviously have been more successful. But what does that say about us? Are we so shallow that we have to have all the razzamatazz before we can recognize a good story? Can none of us find nor appreciate a diamond in the rough anymore?
I'm not as hampered by bad effects nor as easily swooned by great effects as your average movie-goer. I'm drawn to good concepts.
There is an awesome, and I mean AWESOME interview with Ray Harryhausen on the Clash of the Titans DVD I encourage all of you who love imaginative films to watch. He expresses so very well a very similar idea of how I view films.
It's worth renting for that alone.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

When I was a kid I loved all the Harryhausen movies. Especially the Sinbad ones. I agree with TheReelTodd, by the time Clash of the Titans came along the FX did look a bit shoddy. I still remember enjoying it though - the clockwork owl (am I thinking of the right movie? - haven't seen it for a while!) was cool.
I don't think it's worth remaking if all they're going to do is update the effects. There has to be narrative flow in there and compelling performances.
Talking of Harryhausen - although CGI is more 'realistic' I do miss that eerie movement that stop motion produced. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing rather than an aesthetic thing though...
Thanks for the tip re the Harryhausen interview, TheJediUnit, I'll check it out.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineorder abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

I loved Clash of the Titans as a kid. I loved the special effects, too; has a nostalgic feeling for me (like Tron) and appreciate the time/energy involved with doing such interesting work. But then again, I also liked Journey to the Center of the Earth; and like the vibe of these movies, including 'Jason and the Argonauts'. Star Wars used puppets in the Cantina, which isn't really good special efx, imo. I bought Clash a few months back and still enjoyed it. This won't be a surprise to any of you, but I would like a remake of Clash.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Maybe I should say that I didn't necessarily disagree with Todd. The film makers definately stand on the edge of winding up with two good films or two ruined films, the first being drug down with the second.
I also read that they're releasing a new "anniversary" DVD of the classic, with apparently some sort of documentary. Not sure of the details, but it's expected pretty soon. Maybe it's a market test.

Man, I love Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation!
I always felt that Clash Of The Titans was probably Ray's way of going out with a bang. You might remember that in the mid to late 70's and early 80's Ray's movies had been a very popular staple of holiday TV movie-watching. Somebody must've correctly surmised that it was the right time to create one last stop-motion extravaganza while there were still a bunch of people who would pay to see stop motion.
There's just something so cool about stop-motion and it's ultimate development, go-motion. Granted, CGI is fantastic, gets better with every film, and at this point pretty much out-classes stop-motion at every turn. But I ask you this: Is there anything cooler than a fight scene with stop-motion skeletons? I think not.

You can watch the Clash trailer over at imdb I just noticed: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082186/. It doesn't do it much justice, but thought some might want to see anyways...
Aceshowbiz.com shows the following for Clash of the Titans ( 2008 ):
