There is a catch to that theory. They also mentioned you can read any word with the first and last letter correct and the rest of the words in the middle scrambled as long as the word is one that you have seen and read before.
If you have never seen the word you wont get the scrambled word.
Yeah they came to the conclusion that once words are learned the brain takes shortcuts and only keeps part of the word in memory and the rest in storage.
Scientists also think the brain works the same way with mental imagery but they wont be able to prove this without further research and digital scans of the brain.
Another intresting thought is some people can see in the dark where others cant. They think that the brain transmits mental images from storage of that familiar area to the eyes and the person thinks they are seeing in the dark when they actually are not.
