3d modeling software opinions

on Wednesday, June, 14, 2006 9:12 PM
Hi guys.

To you other 3d would be artists out there what is your empression of SoftImage XSI vs 3d Studio MAX 7 or Lightwave 8. I started back to college trying to get a degree in CGI and New Media/Art. I am currently learning XSI at the school and wondered what you guys though about it.

I'm currently using XSI at work now. The version we're on is a bit buggy and is lacking some of the nice features that the new release (5) has.

I'm not really a modeler so I'm not sure what the best software for modeling would be. I've heard positive things about Lightwaves modeling, but as far as animation, I'd pick XSI out of the three you mentioned. I took 3D Max classes in school 2 years ago but I didn't care too much for it.

I think Maya is the best all around overall 3D app, but XSI is getting better.

Hope this helps.

Not terribly familiar with XSI, but Max is very popular... In the professional industry though, Maya is generally considered to be the cream of the crop... Hence it's hefty price tag...

Me? I'm a cheapskate... I use Blender... It can do almost everything that Max and the big-name programs can do, but it's FREE... order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Even though I am not a modeler myself over here. But a programmer and a techie at heart. I have seen all three out there plus some others that are for both the linux and the windows environment. I can't really say off hand that one is beter than the other. They all have their good points and their bad points here. Even with Blender 3d modeler, KPOVmodeler.

VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

I'll either use ZBrush 2 (Which is sexy.) or 3DS Max (Also sexy with that new hair plugin. Ooo! Hairy! ) or Blender 3D (Also very sexy because it's free! ) But those are my top three but Maya comes as a nice runner up. Now as for 3D animation, I recomend looking in to Natural Motion's Endorphine. Actually, right now would be an awesome time because they've recently released their PLE version of Endorphine. (Also, I'd like to say that Endorphine is wreaking with awesomesauce because it is just that awesome. You're going to have to download this one to see it! )

Does that help you any?

hi guys, for 3D modeling I like to use the 'ol pen and paper! I've done a full 360 view of a light cycle just with pen and paper (make that, pencil and paper) i should find a way to get it animated on the computer then post it!

Ah yes! Ye old pen and paper animation! A lost art!

Anyways, you may want to try bringing it in to Flash then and set up the frames one by one. If you don't have Flash already, you can download a free trial on the Macromedia/Adobe website.

I'm no modelling artist, but I found blender was very easy to use, and it has a major major plus: it's FREE.

I have been using TrueSpace. It's easy to use but it's not as good as Maya and 3D Studio.

Here is the problem with me. First of all, I'm not really good at making detailed modles. Second, since Truspace is the only program I was able to pick up quickly, when I try to use Maya I'm so very lost since a lot of the lango and interface is much different.

However, I'm going to suck in my gut and buy books on Maya because I want to make my very own Recognizer movie...

Greetings Programs,

I'm currently taking classes at the DAVE School in Orlando, Florida and we use Lightwave 9. I find the software very easy to use for modeling. The animation side is a little rough, but it's getting better. I haven't used any other programs so I am biased in my opinion.

I would like to check out XSI. I saw a demo of the latest version at SIGGRAPH 2006 this past week and it really looks sweet! (Although it caused the computer to crash twice while we were watching the live demo.)

A friend of mine is taking the Maya course and says that while Maya is great for animation, it is not an easy program to use for modeling.

There is another program called Hexagon which I hear is a low price software alternative. I'll have to look up Blender though. Do they have it for Macintosh?where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online
