But this is good news for the fans of the original triology.

Why?

It's all legit, baby. No edits. Han shot first. =P

Haaaaaaaaaaaa!

I've been waiting for this!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

I've wanted the original trilogy on DVD for a long time now, but I refuse to buy the re-edited versions - especially after the additional edits made post- EP1, 2, and 3 (long after the 1997 re-release of the "Special Edition").

Man - FINALLY I will get to enjoy the Star Wars I grew up with AND Han with shoot first!

Plus, I'll get to enjoy some of the coolest things I remember as a kid. In the original film, the blaster bolts are clearly seen hitting the bad guys. In the Special Edition, the actual hits were edited out and you only see the bad guy just after getting hit. I thought that looked funny when I saw the re-release in the theater in 1997. It wasn't until after viewing it that I found out that George Lucas did more than just add some visual FX that he could not put in originally. Of course, the Han/Greedo thing looked ridiculous - I wasn't expecting that when I saw it either. It stuck out like a sore thumb!

But FINALLY, the original AWESOME Star Wars films - the ones I fell in love with as a kid, will be BACK in their full digital glory!

Great news!

I agree... but when I stop to think about the number of copies of StarWars I own I shake my head. I've got multiple VHS copies, a Laser Disk copy, and multiple DVD copies. In a few years I'm sure I'll be looking for a HD-DVD copy. Oh well... that's marketing.

Don't get me started Todd! Being the SW fanboy that I am I could bust out a 2000 word essay on all of the horrible changes that took place between what we know and love and what GL gave us on the DVD release last year. Personally to me the biggest travesty was replacing Sebastion Shaw's spirit with Hayden Christensen at the end of Jedi. Sure the other changes were maddening as well but that scene in particular made my blood boil.

Also, I had just posted this to the other thread about the DVD release:

I for one am jumping for joy over this. I'm definitely a Star Wars fanatic/purist and have been wanting this for some time. Even though Lucas film had stated they would never release the original unaltered versions of the film, most of us knew it was a matter of time. I can't knock 'The Maker' George Lucas for taking another stab at the cash cow on this one . I'm just glad I didn't purchase that *terrible* DVD release last year ^_^.

This is actually kind of ridiculous . . . Lucas first said he'd never put the films on DVD. Then he said he'd never release the trilogy in its original form again.

But I'm happy to hear the films will be available in their original form. Even if it is another cash grab.

Though I didn't mind some of the alterations in the last DVD set, others were pretty annoying. I agree with TimothyC about replacing Sebastian Shaw as Anakin. That was the most pointless and irritating change of them all. Obi-Wan and Yoda don't look any different, so why does Anakin suddenly revert to his younger appearance? Because that's how he looked when he was still "good"? Feh.

The official site has pics of the dvd covers!

Yawn, these things are awful...
Even though I'm still buying them the day the come out, I can't help but wonder why they simply photoshopped old posters when they could have done so much more .

I'm just glad to have the original versions as they were in theaters to show Cameron.

It's cool that they come with the Special Editions - which is what I thought they should have done from the word "Go."

Don't worry. There will be an uber-ultimate-HD-collectors' edition on HD and Blu-Ray Disc some time in the near future where Lucas shows us he can't stop tinkering even with the prequels!abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Well...people kept wanting the original movies in their unaltered form...seems to me that's what we're gonna get.

Sweet!

I'm buying all three--in widescreen, of course--and I'm also picking up LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for the PC, which is to be released on the same day as the DVD's.
