Nice Monitor there Nikster. Might as well go for the larger ones as well too. But who wants to get into Debt for that much anyways. Myself. I just picked up a used IBM G76 17 monitor over here for $30 canadian. no swival base but that is okay. It'll be placed eventually on top of my two Dell machines over here. Want to test it out a little bit with a SGI machine that a friend of mine wants to get running over here. So the 17 will be used for that. ANd get my older linux machine set up properly with some higher resolution as well. 640X480 just does not cut it anymore. Nor does 800X600 even with 32 bit colour.

Beacuse, they pay low wages to their workers and their business practices leave something to be desired.

Here's a site with some info...

Prankster bit for some reason to be is that they are usually buying in bulk quantities at the manufacturer level. Hence lower prices on stock. Since they are buying in large quantities. And tend to squeeze out the middle men or the mom and pop stores because the smaller stores cannot compete with the prices on the same level. Hence the evil in them and the low wages too from what I have heard up over here. They had closed a store that went union and never reopened ever again. Two main reasons why. But thats just a part of it. Since I had worked in sales for a similar company that went for business to business with a similar idea for computers in Montreal. And that is what they did with companies like Tech Data, Ingram Micro, IBM, SGI, Symantec, hp are such example where you can buy in bulk and get at a lower cost just to give you some examples.

Naa - at least not if you don't work there. Me - I love Walmart - they're one of the few stores where I can actually afford stuff!

They're not really evil. It's hard to explain without angering people who are passionate about their hatred of Walmart... but here it is in a nutshell:

Walmart has the most low-cost goods around. They sell things cheaper than most competing discount department stores.

Of course, to do this, they don't pay well to their "grunt" workers. They also buy goods from 3rd world countries where people make pennies a day for their labor (or something like that).

Of course, this is exactly how EVERY other discount retailer plays the game. They pay their work force low and buy goods to resell as cheap as possible - usually from China or 3rd world countries where the pay sucks.

I used to work in retail (not Walmart). It sucks. You don't get paid well, and the management does not always treat you well. And of course, customers treat you like crap, usually. Joy.

Here's the deal (in my opinion). Low paying jobs like that are not meant to be a "living wage". They're meant for people just entering the work force - mostly teens in high school and people working part time while in college, or for someone who wants to hold down a job but is not the main source of income in the house. Lone before Walmart hit this neck of the woods (in the early 90's), I got paid crappy, treated poorly, and hated my job in retail. I'm not sure why, but I actually tried to make a living like that. It didn't work. I was dirt poor and hated my job and my life was going nowhere.

Eventually, I woke up and left the retail game. I worked a couple of other jobs before settling in to a decent company that pays a wage one can actually live on. No one has to work at Walmart or any other retail store. There are other oppertunities out there - even for those without college educations. But most people are too narrow-sighted to realize that. I sure was for a long time.

I could type volumes about this controversy, but I'll just leave it. I really don't want to get flamed or piss anyone off because I don't hate Walmart and don't think their practices are "evil" - at least no more "evil" than any other big, successful company. That's how they play - it's not always friendly (far from it). But it is certainly NOT limited to Walmart. I think people pick on Walmart the most because they are one of the biggest and well-known big entity like this.

But like I said - if you don't work there - it's a great place to shop! Things are indeed affordable there!

Walmart goes into small towns, offers their good at a LOT less cost than mom & pop local stores, drives them out of business, and then when no one in the town has any more money to shop at the Walmart, they close down, leaving the town decimated.

Last time I went into a WalMart was to buy those anime DVD's that had that Tron like stuff in them. I was very embarrased to be in that store.

I shop Target.

Wal-Mart is evil because they import almost everything from China so they can undercut everyone's prices and drive almost all competition and domestic maufacturing out of business.

It does look really good, Nikster. The 10ms response time may mean that you'll see some slight ghosting or smearing in some games here and there, but otherwise I think it will suit your stated needs nicely.

Just a few weeks ago I picked up a black Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" flat-panel TFT-LCD monitor at BestBuy for my new PC, and it's great, I love it.

I was really hesitant about buying an LCD monitor because of all the negative things I've heard about gaming performance, but I was having a devil of a time finding a good CRT because they just don't make them anymore.

While at Best Buy browsing their monitor selection, one of the associates mentioned the 14-day full refund return policy. I figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a shot, I liked the 1600x1200 resolution (4:3 ratio), and the 5ms response time was lower than the usual 8ms most other monitors have, so I took it home and gave it a shot.

So far, so good. The monitor has been fantastic for gaming with no ghosting or smearing or artifacts that I've been able to see. I've watched a few movies on it (TRON, Forbidden Planet, and The Incredibles) and they all looked great. Granted, unlike your monitor it's not a 16:9 widescreen so I do get the black bars on top and bottom but it's still a 20.1" so the picture is big and looks great.

Good luck with your new monitor, and don't forget to check out the Widescreen Gaming Forum for info on how to hack your games to run them at widescreen resolutions so you can get full use of your new monitor.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Than ks for all the info, AND the link...that'll come in handy..I can't wait to see that Tron 2.0 looks like in widescreen

I've heard the negative stuff too, but I figured now was as good a time as any to get one. When HD becomes standard, will they even continue to make CRT monitors/televisions anymore?

It will probably be like vacuum tubes. Somewhere, some company still makes them, but they're not easy to come by.

In the next 10 to 20 years though, I believe we will indeed see the CRT as we know it evaporate from sight. It will be one of those things we talk about when we're old. on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Yeah I can relate to that too. ANd you know what you'll still be surprised abuot this. I still do have in working condition an old vacumed tube radio over here. Even though it only gets the AM dial since the other frequencys that are there. are no long being used nowadays for radio transmission. Takes about 15-30 seconds to warm up so no biggie there. But its fun to have and listen too. I had gotten that from an elderly gentleman that lived next door to me. And its like woah. tried it out and it work. love that radio purely for the way that technology was way back then when that was like todays technologies. .

That's a really nice TV/Monitor, Nik! Definitely worth picking up, for that price. HDTV ready, even.

As for getting the Tron 2.0 game to work in widescreen, yep it can be done. It's very easy. The only problem is, the image may be squashed and distorted.

It depends on the resolution you pick. To prevent the squashing, you're inevitably going to end up with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. But I'd say that's a small price to pay, for widescreen goodness.
