Head's up, techno/electronic fans!

on Friday, February, 10, 2006 8:58 PM
Well, I know there's some old school electronic music fans hereabouts, so I thought this would be the place to make sure to mention it.

To those who remember Telex, they have a new album coming out. First in 20 years. It's due out this month. I don't know how much of a pain in the butt it's gonna be to get over here, but it's a must-have for me. Check out their new site announcing it. It already has the first single to hear and a fan-freakin'-tastic video!

http://www.telex-music.com
There's some nice catch-up info, discography, and news. It must be new, because it isn't turning up in any google searches. It's odd that I found it at all, especially right on release, but I was looking to see if I could get more of their old releases for a funny reason. My 4 year old daughter loves their Looney Tunes release. She goes around her preschool class singin' "sixteen reasons why I don't like music, I don't like music, I don't like music..."

I'm so dern proud!

*wiping dear*

Anywho, this is a must-get. Sound off whoever else is too.

Um... wow - that was very cool!

I'm not very familiar with Telex, but I just went to their site and clicked on "video"... and I was treated to a really cool music video with an old-school techno sound and very a retro-cool old-school video game slant to traveling on the road again. I loved that video and the way they incorporated old-school video game graphics (or the look there of) with live action like that. Very cool.

Thanks for sharing!

well, that music is both very strange an very alluring at the same time.

I tend to get most of my music over Itunes nowadays, so i'll have a look on there for this thing...

Wow, how come I've never heard of Telex before? Considering they kind of claim to be the fathers of techno-style music? Regardless, these guys rock!

The video is just great . . . retro-graphic pixelized versions of them traveling in a cool car! In the part where it went dark and they turned on the lights, it kind of reminded me of the racing game Enduro for the 2600.

And call me crazy, but they say these are unreleased tracks they did in the 80's . . . yet they sound like they could have been recorded much more recently than that. They would have fit in as new releases in the 90's, no problem. In fact, they could even claim these are brand new, and people would probably believe them.

Also, I hope this doesn't come across as a slight against them. But does their music remind anyone of Daft Punk? So, I guess that means these guys beat Daft Punk by 10-15 years, and probably were an inspiration to them?

sorry. I like Daft Punk...a lot.

but i didn't really get any daft punk vibe from this music. they might've been an inspiration to daft punk, but i don't really see much of a connection myself.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Yeah, you can't directly compare their music. But I get the same kind of vibe or feeling from Telex, that I did from Daft Punk. There are small similarities between On The Road Again and Around The World.

And for harder edged stuff, I thought The Prodigy seriously kicked ass too. Firestarter is a great example of that.

Will it be wide release or limited?

Well, I have my doubts it's gonna be on the racks at Wal-Mart. Despite it being an EMI "release", they have always been a band whose work is a bear to get your hands on, which would explain everyone's unfamiliarity with them (even HERE, where 80's, computers, and the likes of Wendy Carlos music is considered required listening).

Here's a good article on them..
http://www.crammed.be/ssr/artists/telex/telex.htm
I first heard their music on the 80's club scene, and was lucky to find one of their CD's in a pawn shop. It seems to me that their music was even difficult to get in the day, and even in Europe or their native Belgium. So, that gives one an idea of how challanging it is to get now if you didn't get it back then. Coincidentally, I got a bootleg "best of" album via eBay from a seller in the Russian Federation, and it was great. They had a 4-cd boxed set in '94, but I've not been able to find it available at all anywhere, even with a cost-no-object mindset.

In short, they're rare.

However, despite that, they were still a very inovative band and very, VERY much in the same vein as Kraftwerk, paralleling the same era, same improvising, same cutting edge computer usage, same sound (sort of) except taking themselves less seriously with some songs down-right flat hokey, such as a dedication to Spike Jones and one with Freud "dancing like a hoochy goochy queen." Anyway, they may not have become a household name, but they definately made a mark in the club music scene and as such influenced electronic music from a point too far up the falling dominoes for many to realize they were in fact there making a difference. During the course of my searching, I found a great site that even made a great, objective comparison between Telex's influence on early electronic music versus Kraftwerk's, and his idea was in favor of Telex.

here's a blog article referring to them as "the grandfathers of electronica"...
http://lostbands.blogspot.com/2005/03/telex-moskow-diskow.html
At any rate, I've been locked permanantly as a fan and was excited to learn they were making this new work while looking to buy up some older stuff.

What sucks is that there's some young new band that named themselves Telex... as if finding info on the originals wasn't hard enough already.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

the only similarity i can see [well, hear] between Telex and Daft Punk is the fact that they both synthesise their voices, only when listening to Daft Punk i can actually interpret what is being said.

it seems like Daft punk is more based on a steady, hard hitting beat [using Da Funk, Around the world and Harder,Better,Faster,Stronger as examples, wheras this is more to do with the melody.

i see you like The Prodigy as well. good on you. I'm not sure if it's been released in America/Canada, but I managed to scrounge a copy of "The Prodigy - Their Law: the singles 1990-2005" [2 disc edition] from a friend* this was my first taste of the prodigy, their style hit me like a brick wall...AND IT WAS GOOOOOOD!!! [my favourite track is spitfire. closely followed by their Law, breathe, then Firestarter in that order.

*i say scrounge, what i mean was copying it onto my computer in exchange for giving him a copy of my entire Daft Punk collection. he got the better deal, considering i have all 3 Daft Punk albums and their "alive 1997"where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

What I find interesting (a coincidence?) is that both Telex and Daft Punk come from Belgium. Hmm . . .

As for The Prodigy, I should look into that CD set you mentioned. Hopefully it's still available. I only have one album from them, The Fat of the Land.

DAFT PUNK IS FRENCH!!!!!!

they come from paris, the pair are called Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (born February 8, 1974) and Thomas Bangalter (born January 3, 1975).

The duo have released five albums, thirteen singles and are considered one of the most successful electronic music collaborations of all time, both in album sales and in critical acclaim.

The name Daft Punk was inspired by a review in the British music magazine Melody Maker, which dubbed their first collaboration, the Beach Boys-inspired guitar group Darlin', "a bunch of daft punk."

sorry, as you will probably have guessed, i don't like people getting stuff wrong about my favourite things. that's why my friends call me a "back-seat gamer"

anyway, a few other bands/peoples to look out for:

Ladytronles rhythmes digitales [who isn't french ]me [obviously not in the shops. legally, the music i've made isn't mine. i've taken some of the music from UT2004 and juggled it about a bit. PM me with an email address if you want to hear some, i'm currently brushing off a second album...

Huh, I could've sworn I heard they were from Belgium. Maybe people got that impression (myself included) because their original releases were from a record label in Belgium?

Oh well, I stand corrected then.
