As Seen On TV....

on Sunday, January, 22, 2006 4:26 PM
Hey You Guys!!!!!

There's a lot of crap that they try to sell you on TV, but not many people buy them because they don't know if thay are any good or not.

So....

I was wondering, have any of you bought anything that was aired on TV (sorry no CODs.. lol) and it was really worth the price you paid?

Just wondering...

I wonder the same thing.

Of course, I also wonder why the hell companies invest in one of the most annoying technologies ever - pop-ups and pop-unders. Who in their right mind would EVER click on one of those irritating-damn things? No one, right? After all, if they click on it, it only contributes to the desire for companies to continue investing in such an intrusive form of advertising.

But of course, we all know that there are people who do click on them, thus making this awful form of advertising appealing to advertisers.

The same goes for those as seen on TV ads. They're not intrusive or anything, well, not more than any other commercial on TV. But they're often laughable and you just KNOW no one would ever invest in something stupid like the crap they're trying to sell you for only $19.95 (small print - plus $9.95 shipping and handling). Those products are the absolutely cheapest made goods ever and the profit margin for the company selling them is very high. They can't be nearly as good as they make them look in the TV commercial - we ALL know that, right?

Well, apparently not. Those as seen on TV commercials are quite effective and many people do invest their money in those products. Are the products really any good? I don't know. I've never really talked to anyone about how they are. I've never engaged in a conversation with someone who's actually bought merchandise like that. Well, at least I've never known if they have or not.

I never have. But I do admit, some of thier things look really neat. Like that flashlight you only have to shake to recharge work - that does look kind of neat. It's useful, and never needs batteries. But I bet the quality is low grade, does not light nearly as well as a standard flashlight, doesn't last long (or at all if dropped), and is probably not worth the cost of the box they ship it in.

Then again, I don't know. Never seen on in person.

Todd-- apparently, they sell those on thinkgeek.com

I don't know if people remember Oxi-clean, but it was only sellable through tv commericals...

Now, you can find those in stores and similiar products. X_o

I suppose, those that actually work and/or are successful enough to be sold in stores instead of on tv are a proof that people actually buy it.

Kia: Cool. I'm a infamous mythological perfect User.

No doubt... I'm like a lot of people when it comes to pop-ups... DO NOT BUY STUFF FROM POP-UPS.... if anything, to teach those bastards to quit investing so much into pop-ups....

There was a "as seen on TV" store in our mall for a bit. It went out of business. I guess that says something, huh?

I got a White Elephant gift from it though.... a fly catcher thing that looks like that plant from Little Shop Of Horrors....

Needless to say it does NOT work

Well, did you try pricking your finger on some rose thorns and squeezing a little blood in to it's open mouth? Just be really careful if it asks for more.

Yeah - I remember that stuff when you could only get it on TV in the early-mid 90's. Some products do make it in to the stores if there is enough demand and the buyers for retailers see a chance for profit. Of course, I'm sure Oxi-clean must have done a decent job for it to make it in retail outlets. Not all of those order now for only %19.95... products are duds. But I'm pretty sure most of them are. Or that's how they seem to me.

I've been tempted to make my own cheesy commercial like that, for a phony product and actually pay to have it advertised locally. When done right, you can make almost anything look good on TV. I've always wondered how many people would actually try to order some kind of crazy product that couldn't possibly work, if they saw it on TV. I'll have to find out one of these days! He he he
