Big Lots

on Thursday, January, 12, 2006 7:50 PM
Okay, today I bought Tron 2.0 for PC at Big Lots for $5.99, large package box. I only saw one box, the one I bought. Might keep your eyes peeled, I wonder if 2.0 might pop up at other Big Lots stores.

You know - I've been thinking of just buying any under $10.00 copies of it I find. We have a Big Lots not far from where we live too. I'm going to check there sometime.

I've thought of just buying copies of the game and just giving them to people I know to see if they get hooked on it or not. I think a lot of people didn't realize that you don't need AK47's and blood splattering everywhere in a game for it to be real blast playing! Nothing against those games, but I do think some skipped this one because it wasn't violent enough for their tastes. Too bad - they missed out on a great experience.

I just picked up Tron 2.0 for $0. I was at a used bookstore and used my trade credit to pick it up. Now we'll see if my PC can actually run it. I know the processor can handle it, but I think you have to have some kind of super fandangled video card to run it, right?

A Radeon 8500 or Geforce 3 will run the game fine. I used to have an Athlon XP 2400+, Radeon 8500, plus 512 MB, and the game ran very nicely on that.

I'll be interested to hear how you think the PC version compares to the Xbox version, since you're starting the other way around.

Definitely!

The game will run on a Geforce 2 like you said, but you won't get the full glow effect.

The Radeon 8500 or Geforce 3 are the minimum you need to get all the effects. Anything newer than those two cards, can handle the game easily. (Except the Geforce 4 MX.)

Well, so far so good. I haven't played it much, but was very curious to install it and see if it played.

It plays very well, even with the glow on. So far... there hasn't been any action yet, so we'll see. I chose "medium" resolution at 1024x768 at setup time.

It looks great on my LCD Flat Panel.. a hell of a lot better than it did on my TV via X-Box.

It's weird trying to play a game off a keyboard after being away from the PC gaming world for eight years. I'll get used to it. I noticed some differences right off the bat between X-Box and PC. In the very first room on the X-Box the programs you talk to are in separate rooms and not standing around you in a circle.

The MAIN thing I picked this up for is to play lightcycles online That will have to wait until another day though. But for now, I'm happy it works

Hmm . . . well if you chose Medium Details when you first launched the game, you're not going to get all the cool effects. Your video card can handle them all, no problem. You should go into the Options menu, Performance, and set it to High.

All I'm going to say about the Single Player game is, there's lots of little things missing from the Xbox version that you'll find while playing the PC version.

that's like me, but in reverse. i've spent so long playing shooters on PC, that when i come to play halo 2 on the x-boxes at college, i can hardly even move around. let alone aim and shoot. it just feels...alien.

anyway, good luck with playing Tron 2.0 on PC!

Yeah, it looks awesome on my dual BFG 7800 GTX OC's in SLI. The Athlon FX-57, Creative X-FI Fatal1ty, and 2GB RAM don't hurt, either!

Note: Yes, I'm showing off. Why not, I spent enough! I really should post screenshots...

Anyway, congratulations on buying TRON 2.0 Sketch and Boingo_Buzzard! It's a great game, you're going to love it!

Todd, that's a great idea you have of buying the game for friends to try getting them into it. I did that for a buddy of mine a year or two ago for his birthday and he loves it.

Unfortunately, none of my other friends have PC's that can play TRON 2.0, so buying it for them would be a waste. The only reason my one friend can play it is because I helped him upgrade his Gateway.

Tron 2.0 is not what I would have done with a sequel to Tron. Be that as it may, I think Tron 2.0 was pretty fun. There were enough elements and challenges of a FPS to make it interesting and despite the buggy version I was playing it on (X-Box) it was still a good ride. To each his own, I suppose, but I don't think Tron 2.0 was "dull" by any means. Just different.

But . . . but . . . but . . .

Ah well. I guess you can't convince 'em all. But the game is so cheap now, I can't see a reason not to pick it up. Maybe you'll change your mind some day.

Man, I love TRON 2.0!

I was very much looking forward to an expansion pack and sequel. Hey, maybe Steve Jobs will turn things around, being that he's a TRON fan...

What?

Dull?

You're talking about TRON 2.0, right?

You know - the game based on the film TRON.

It's the one with light cycles in it, disc action, an awesome single player adventure, and highly addicting online multiplayer games?

Yeah - TRON 2.0.

Just want to make sure we're all talking about the same game.

Might I suggest buying the game for yourself, installing it, patching it up (before you start playing), and then watching the film. Yes, watch the film. THEN fire up the game. If you don't find yourself glued to the game like that old crazy-glue guy stuck to the steel beam by his hat, then I'll be a null unit!

Seriously - give the game a shot for yourself.

The game ROCKS!

It rocks like a van with two young lovers inside parked in the middle of nowhere!
