Welcome to TRON Sector. What took you so long to post?

Glad you've taken the plunge into active posting. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on TRON and all the other stuff we yak about here.

I passed these link son to Syd Mead. Thought he might want to check that out.

I like that cycle alot also. See! This is what they should of done for Tron 2.0. Just tweak the lightcycle a little. Not come out with that chopper thing thats in the game.

The Super Cycle was created by Syd Mead, who designed the original cycles. I think he did a nice job with it. Offered us a different take on the cycle for Tron.

Go SYD!

Hey - that's a very cool cycle image! VERY light cycle in look and style.

Great find, gRiD_89a!

And thanks for digging up the other image that shows the driver inside, Carl. You can see the drive clearly holding a rod as the steering device - very much like the rod that they grab on the game grid in the film.

Oh yeah - this beauty was DEFINATELY TRON inspired!

Here's the really cool thing - it almost looks as if you could build a functional cycle like that. It would be very non-traditional in the mechanics of it, but I've seen spokeless wheels like that in concept cycles on the Discovery channel before. Now how cool would it be to drive around in that thing?! Of course, spilling might be a problem... unless someone can figure out some kind of self-balancing mechanism.

Pretty damn cool though.

Did you notice the file names? No doubt about it when they call the image tron.jpg.

Nope - didn't notice that until you pointed it out. That settles it! No doubt now!

TRON inspired so much in so many people - I still can't believe it didn't do well at the box office back in '82... and to this day has not had a proper sequel.

Looking at the design I think they've thought about that. See the lowest yellow line on the body that is right below the drivers foot. I could see that being a spring closed panel hinged at the top that would open when the driver went to extend his leg to balance the bike while it was stopped. The bigger issue I see keeping this thing from being a reality is the size and shape of the front tire. How does one steer this thing? I wonder if it could have spokeless rear wheel steering.

Hmmm... just thinking out loud here. Has anyone ever seen a front wheel drive rear wheel steering bike?

Carl

P.S. Just found this site:

http://wannee.nl/hpv/abt/e-index.htm
Looks are all rear wheel steering bikes are front wheel drive. Interesting... the Industrial Design - Light Cycle might just be doable.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

How cool would that be: to have a real-life version based on the Light Cycle design, that was actually driveable and worked?

I hope those designs don't stay conceptual, and can be made real.

Hello Guys,

I'm home sick today fighting a sinus infection and probably should be back in bed but I just got an email I HAD to share. Back when this thread first started I emailed Chris Longmore asking if he had any other pictures of the Drive design team's lightcycle that he'd be willing to share. His email of today simply stated:

Hi

This for starters, sorry about delay. Just been to Geneva Motor show, some interesting stuff there.

Cheers
Chris

But its the attachments that I'm sure you are all interested in.

Since this is "for starters" I hope there are more to come and if so I'll be sure to share them here.

Enjoy,
