Possibility of a Co-op mod for Tron 2.0 (PC)

on Friday, December, 09, 2005 6:21 AM

Well, working on this for about a month now, bitching to BVI and Disney to get the needed bits to make a basic yet happy co-op mod.

To be honest, very little progress has been made for my dream (and many others) of such a mod to exsist.

So far, it has just gotten me to the stage of:

Videos in sync (intro and all)
Warps to work
and pass a few levels here and there.
Menu selection for both players
And an amusing bit is the light cycles.. you dont get the cars, but your still in your body form.. so you walk around into the cars.. something im hoping to fix.

but ofcourse, i need the source code to complete the final stages. (which funny enough, DOESNT EXSIST)

i belive its possible todo without the code, but that is going to take alot of time.

one thing that i would need help from this nice community is maby the rendering engine source code (i belive it was called Lithtech 2.5) and maby some beta testers to get this on the road.

of course, its all just met chatting this thing up, but as i fight alot for companies to do co-op, im confident this one should shoot off like any other.

So I would like to know from the people on this forum if they would like such a mod.
please leave your opinions below.

(oh yeah, I am a 1 man team on this at the moment. I am a coder.. so if there are mappers out there, maby you could help a bit? maby add your own map packs?)

Of course, nothing could be more fun then Rezzing enimies with your mates..

Catch me on MSN for any details or joining up.

I replied to your message on the Boxhat forums.
I'll help you any way I'm capable.
I hope for good things to come from your ambition.

its been a while, i have been hard on work with just 1 massive map and to make programs work together to hit goals..

like sitting them on either sides of the map, and flicking a few switches along the way and jumping on each other you can get to places that were locked out.

not a total idea for a co-op game, but i just need a basis design and work from there.

im also doing a fun map..
a Maze kind of thing.. you can wander around it and first one to the center wins (competing with your mates)

im not sure if i can work on the SP maps, i have been hacking and decompiling and working my ass off to crack it but they wont budge..

so a third party Co-op mod is the only opion for me till i understand the game.

as for the source code, i asked Buena Vista about it ehy said they didnt have plans to release it (funny enough)

so... if its possible..
make a paypal thing on Tron sector and get everyone to donate to the pot.. get enough money and maby they might turn around and listen..

still, its assuming Buena is interested in 'selling' the source code.

work is moving slowly because im a 1 man team at the moment, (and school and such)
but soon enough, we will have co-op.. BY GOD IM GONNA GET THIS OUT THE DOOR AND HAND IT TO THE FANS!

Well, its 12AM here (for me) and i have a really buggy, yet basic co op mod (HOORAY!)

only problems at the moment:

Light Cycles wont work, i belive thats just MP limitations and without the source i cant fix it.

Guns, you miss out on all guns for the levels after the first..
im thinking maby a "trainer" to allow that, but the rammifications of cheating online isnt something i want happening.. so im thinking a cheat that can only be activated if there server is running it.. a third party addon that would inject into the Tron server and allow clients to "cheat" for guns.

movies are somewhat not working, but they arnt really a concern.

its been a way too long time with this scerwy thing and im damn near ready to call it quits.

so im planning on making a quick video of the gameplay and releaseing that to see peoples opinions if its worth releaseing in the buggy module way that it is now, or to leave it be and try not to harm the Tron 2.0 Community.

anyways, back to the drawing board.. im going to work on my tron Machinma for a while to clear my head..

late as it is. progress is being made

I personally think that you're making this co-op thing out to be harder than it really needs to be - You can take a shortcut - Use Team Derez as a base. Here you have teams..people can just join 1 Team. Not true Co-op but thats as close as you're going to get in TRON for now..and far into the future. Team Derez should be sufficient for a great co-op experience without the need for a mod.

- I don't think releasing a buggy ANYTHING is good..especially for such a small community. a buggy map or mod can get quite the backlash

- Good luck on decompiling .DAT files for the single player game maps. It's taken almost 6 years just to get a buggy .LTB model extractor from the NOLF community.

- I will tell you that cinematics in multiplayer are dodgey at best...but may be possible more in Derez than LC due to the LC starting match time limits.

- I will NOT donate anything in the hopes that BVG will change their mind. Knowing their history with dealing with the community development - I find this a idea laughable (Sorry).

Yes it is way harder then im making it out to be, believe me!
the shortcut you have posted about is just a really really buggy work around that many people have tried without success.
Releasing anything buggy is a bad idea, but thats up for the fans to decide..

would they be happy with just a few flaws in order to play SP with their mates? (i would.. we had that with Doom 3 for ages)

Decompiling the .Dat files was never a score of mine, they dont need to be touched.

you are very negative towards tron i see and "wont donate anthing" seems like a very poor idea (im not trying to flame, thats just my opinion.

The Tron community is based on suggestions and Input.
anyways. i have school now, so i will see what other people may think.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Buggy workaround? It's not buggy? You can easily have AI in Derez. It's only buggy if it's not done right - believe ME. Just a few tweaks and Vman's newest map could be co-op. The single player maps will NEVER be bug-free in MP. You need new maps created with co-op in mind..you could even do it and continue the story if you wanted to.

Releasing anything buggy is a bad idea, but thats up for the fans to decide..

Go ahead and release it then..and watch it fall by the wayside. It's hard enough to get people to play as it is..Why don't we throw something at them that will be a frustrating mess. I guess as long as they know it's buggy then it's excusable.

Decompiling the .Dat files was never a score of mine, they dont need to be touched.

So you are just gonna magically add new multiple spawnpoints?

you are very negative towards tron i see and "wont donate anthing" seems like a very poor idea (im not trying to flame, thats just my opinion.

I've been around this community for a long time - Hell - I'm a founding member of the TRON 2.0 community. To say I'm negative about things is only because you don't know the whole story of things behind the scenes with BVG - and I'm not going to go into them here. Needless to say I am all for growing the community. If you feel that is not my intention - again..your opinion
