Man, I have been working non stop on assignments. Semester's almost over Sketch. I can make it.
Anyway, though I would post one of my current projects that I've been having fun with so far. In Digital Illustration we are doing ale labels. Out of the selections, I choose Flying Frog Ale, since it has a nice ring to it. One of the other selections was Two Poodles Ale, which the only thing that comes to mind is two poodles sniffing each others butts for the label.
I've been in a retro mood lately so I wanted my frog to be a pilot. So I borke out my Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow soundtrack to get my mind set. I have two sketches so far. Got to make a packet of three to turn in before we go digital in Illustrator.
Both images are the same concept except some minor differenences to see what works best. Need to draw out one more tomorrow to create the packet to turn in Tuesday.
Also here's a happy orange frog from Word and Image.

Definitely the first one. The frog is smiling, for one. The second one seems like the frog is a little evil and not overly enjoying the beer,
But seriously, the first one is totally professional material.
Twin poodles would have been tougher though, and more of a challenge. I wonder if it was supposed to be that way... mmmmm? To see who chose it and how they did.

Yeah I like the first one best, but I want the frog in the first one to be facing the opposite direction, like the second one. I can easily flip him around in Illustrator. I've noticed his eyes lead you to look at the word Frog first, so I need the viewer to see Flying first, then Frog, then the smoke trail allows the eye to go down to the word Ale. Guess I'll run that idea by the class.
Yeah, the moment I read Flying Frog, I already had a piece of paper out sketching out ideas. I just loved the name. Flying Frog!

Actually, I disagree. I like that the frog is looking at the airplane because for me, on a label, the illustration and the words are totally separate. I think in the first one the frog’s focus is sort of looking off to the horizon, with that look of hope and adventure in his eyes. The way the trail of the airplane accentuates that is perfect.
Of course, this is your artwork. I am just butting in.
EDIT:
I think I may have made a mistake. I think I confused the frog's mustache for a grin. Would you consider making the frog grin instead of a straight face?

Actually that's his grin, not a mustache. Need to but a secondary line under it to show it's a lip line. The second one that has the long chin line does throw the eye off. This is why I tried some different minor details to see what works anyway. Now just need to simplify the last image more to make it look modern. That's the goal of the assignment, to make a modern looking styled logo that has roots in an older style.
Cool band Foilism.
