Free Wav Editor

on Friday, November, 04, 2005 12:50 PM

I had such luck last time asking for links to software I thought I'd try again. I am looking for a FREE wav editor. I am just in need of basic functionality, nothing overly fancy. Edit, cut, crop, paste, amplify and fade.

Anyone know of anything good out there I can get?

if you don't have Audacity installed on your computer, then you should.

it does everything you want, and more to wavs, mp3's, Ogg's and many more using a nice, simple, easy-to-understand interface.

the Audacity website: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
hope this helps!

You can actually modify .mp3 files without having to expand them out to wav?!

Capt. Capacitor is saying that if you want to turn a WAV into an MP3 with Audacity (or vice-versa for that matter), you need LAME too.

Nope. That's the problem with MP3s. Every time you want to edit them, you add another generation of quality loss because it gets converted to a WAV for editing, and then re-encoded as an MP3 again.
