You'd think with all the hate and violence in the world that something as simple as how people love each other would be a no-brainer. But a lot of people feel threatened by differences in life and are scared by things they can't understand. They, in turn, lash out against it in the most disgusting ways. I have seen people I consider to be very intelligent, and even respect, turn hostile when it comes to the topic of sexuality.

I've stopped in this thread a few of times. I wanted to add something intelligent and positive to this message - a message that I agree with. A couple of times, I even started writing some thoughts... but it quickly turned in to Todd's views on why hate is bad and why people need to grow and open their minds... I started writing a book about stuff I'm sure most of us are already well aware.

But I wanted to express my support, so here I am.

Hate is generally the result of an insecurity caused by lack of knowledge... or at least the kind of hate being discussed here is, in my opinion.

Everyone can make a difference. Share some of your knowledge with others. Don't force-feed it to them, just offer it when you find a good opportunity. Knowledge is power... the kind of power that can stomp out this kind of hate and ignorance.

When you come across someone who is stubborn and very set in their hate-filled (or at least ignorant) ways, don't turn your back on them. Be patient with them and try not to just jump all over them. Let them share what they want with you, as offensive as you may find it. Then take the time to share your knowledge with them - and be polite about how you do it, even if you feel they were rude. At the very least, you will plant a seed of knowledge in their mind. The seed may or may not grow, but at least it will be there...

Ok - that's enough of that. I'm on the verge of getting long-winded again. 'Nuff said.
