Been in kind of a retro-computing mode lately. Something about hearing that C64 music is really cool to me. Oddly enough, I never heard anything as cool as the tunes I've been listening to when I had my C64 in operation in the early 80's. I wish I got a chance to hear some of these way back then - they would have blown me away. |
Todd, if you get the chance to post the link to the site you mentioned, I'd appreciate it.
BTW, right now I'm listening to a jazz CD I found when I was getting a cup of coffee at Starbucks. The album is called Prestige Jazz, the track is Django performed by The Modern Jazz Quartet. The xylophone and the piano take turns as the main instruments. Very smooth. "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. J. Adams "C is for cookie. I just did several searched for that site, but couldn't find it! Grrrr!
I hope it isn't gone.
I'll check my computers at work tomorrow. I might have saved the URL somewhere on one of them.
If I can't find it, I can always upload the MP3's I was able to download (to my site) and give you a direct link to a zip file. It would be about 300+ MB of wonderful C64 music. I didn't get all of their MP3's, but did download several of them - dozens.
The music was recorded from SIDamp (some kind of SID chip emulator), not an actual C64. BUT the music was all composed on a C64 and originally played on them... except for the SIDamp tune, which I'm guessing was composed especially for SIDamp on a PC.

Whoa - that's a great connection!
Where I live, I'm lucky to get downloads at up to 300KB/second. Most of the time it's about 100-150K. Too many people here, not enough routers (or hubs or whatever you call them). A co-worker who has the same service I have and lives in a smaller town gets downloads consistently at 500K and higher. It pays to live in a smaller town!
Anyway, I'll see if I can't find that site because they had tons of C64 MP3's there. But I snagged quite a few just in case, so either way, you'll be enjoying that classic and very distinct sound of our old friend - the C64.
Most of the tunes I downloaded were original tunes composed for the C64. Some of them you may recognize as classic tunes that were sequenced (and pretty nicely) on the C64. I really wish I knew about these tuned back in the day. I'm amazed at what these guys pulled off with only THREE voices to work with. They thought of every trick in the book sequencing these tunes and you'll swear you hear more than 3 voices at times.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Sure is! What's more, at around $45 per month, it's not very pricy for 15/2 cable internet. The cable company offers 30/5 for an additional $15 per month, but I'm happy with 15/2 for now. MutoidMan - I just PM'd you the path to the C64 music on my website.
I looked for the original site I downloaded them from again today on break at work. I couldn't find it.
Oh well. Enjoy what I can offer you. I'm curious to hear if you have any favorites after hearing them a couple times. There was one composition that seemed to become my favorite quickly. I'm not sure why, but I really liked (still like) the one a lot. We'll compare notes later.
Enjoy.
If anyone else wants the 303 MB zip file, PM me. I'll keep it on my site for a few days, but don't want to publish the URL publicly.

Aside from listening to David Lee Roth's Crazy From The Heat EP on CD, I've been listening to the C64 MP3s that Todd was kind enough to upload.
At this point I've listened to all of them all of the way through at least once, and now I've gotten stuck on three of them: Spank Me, Starfall, and Sidamp Theme.
Spank Me sounds like it's straight out of Descent - the classic and awesome 6DOF FPS, not the movie. Seriously, this track is wicked-dark, and makes me want to strap into a Pyro-GX, dive into an extraterrestrial mine and start blasting robots.
Starfall would've been perfect for some kind of a space combat game. It may sound weird, but a certain part feels expansive, like you're staring into deep space, another feels like you're in fast-paced combat, while still another feels like you're in hyperspace.
Sidamp Theme is a bouncy, funky theme for a side-scroller. Makes me wanna get up and get down. Fun track!

Yeah - those are all good toons. Of the three, I enjoy the first two the most, in that order. My favorite tune ended up being Metal Generation. It's kind of an odd tune but appealed to me from the first time I heard it. I don't know why, but I love that tune.
In both Spank Me and Starfall, they implemented some really cool SID chip sequencing. The drum and beat effects in Spank Me are excellent and Starfall has really cool audio-echo or audio-twinkle effects... if that makes any sense. How they pulled that off so well with only 3 voices is a true sign of a great composer, sequencer and programmer.
The SidAmp tune is all over the place. It's got a few different styles in there and full of fun, cool, and keeps a good beat.
I actually have several of these tunes (all of the mentioned and more) on a CD that I listen to in my car on the way back and forth to work (when I'm not chatting on the phone). I love this old C64 music. Oddly enough, I never heard anything THAT cool come out of a C64 back in the early 80's when I was using mine. Too bad I had to wait so long. Better late than never though, right?

Look up something called "SidAmp". It's like WinAmp, but plays SID files. Or maybe it is a plugin for WinAmp. I'm not sure which. Many SID enthusiasts use it and swear by it though. There are a few apps. out there that will emulate the SID chip.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Still at work - which isn't all bad; at least I'm not in traffic - listening to The Cult's Sonic Temple all the way through for maybe the third or fourth time today. I totally dig this album!
For the drive home (with a slight detour to pick up my collector's editions of Crysis and UT III) I'm thinking maybe Danzig's The Lost Tracks of Danzig, or Sesame Street's Songs from the Street: 35 Years of Music. C is for Cookie, Johnny Cash's Nasty Dan, and Aerosmith's version of I Love Trash are some of my favorites! abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr.
