Copyright laws are continually being extended. This has been a hot topic in the comics industry for a number of years. As long as corporations have influence with the courts, the courts will agree to extend the laws that "protect" said corporations. This has resulted in numerous lawsuits over the years, as people create something just to see the laws they created it under change. As far as Disney allowing others to use Tron, sure they will. It just costs money. Instead of torches, we need fundraisers.
Very large and successful fundraisers, admittedly.

I honestly see Tron as one of those "unrecognized revenue" options that corporations know they have, but do nothing about because it involves work. Be careful what you wish for people. You could see something near and dear to your heart become nothing more than a trivial commercial venture right before your very eyes.
