What sound card/chip do you have? Is it built-in motherboard sound? That might explain it . . . those built-in AC97 codecs are, well, not very good.

Did you update your sound drivers to the latest? That sometimes helps.

I have to tips in my FAQ, in the troubleshooting section under "Sound Problems". Just click the banner in my signature.

You could also turn off the Precache assets feature and see if it helps.

Try going into the BIOS and seeing if the onboard sound is still enabled. If it is, then disable it.

If you can't get it working, send it back and get a Talon or Mach V system from Falcon Northwest.

But Mutoid's advice about the BIOS is good. I wonder if those dummies at Dell turned off the built-in audio, or not.

And again, updating the video and sound drivers to the latest is always a good idea. Don't stick with the drivers Dell gives you, get the ones from nVidia and Creative Labs.

I used the cheat code...Hit T for Talk and enter MPMAPHOLE and just before it crashes on level 2 i have about 3 seconds, after 6 tries i was able to enter it and Im now playing fin on the 3rd level..... Its strange to me (being new to computers)..if the problem was drivers or patches, why is it only level 2 ( so far) thats a problem, everything else from the light cycles to online play is AOK???

Coming out with the slide rule, Beanie cap with prop on top. Simple my dear tron fan. I had done a setup on dell not too lopng ago. OKay this will be easy and painless for you. You know when you have the computer shut off right. And when you power it up. with the monitor. During the time when the computer is checking itself out there. You will see the huge Dell name on the screen. Now here is where it might get confusing. Take a look on the screen because its only there for a second or two. You will see F10=setup. It might be on the lower right hand side of the screen. But it will very from computer model to another. Once you see this. Press Function F10. Its right above the numbers on your keyboard. Where you have your characters underneath that. Once you see it Press it. This will get you into the BIOS set up of your machine. From here you can enable or disable things on your computer. I think the built in sound cards are in the pheriphals section there if there is one. Go there adn disable it if there is a built in sound card. Anyways once you enable to disable. Please do save it to the CMOS. Cause if you don't it'll be as if you never changed it in the first place.
