Wow, I just came across this and don't recall ever seeing this discussed in Tron-Sector anywhere. I was a bit saddened to find out Gabe's artwork was, more or less, used by Disney after the 88MPH comicbook was cancelled. I'm sure it was legally used, but considering the comic was cancelled, I don't think it was 'morally' right fror Disney to do this. How do you all feel?

Well, frankly I think it's bulls**t that bean counters should have anything to say about art.
Having said that it's fair that they used that art if the artist got paid for it. Did they? I can't tell from that posting. If not then that is totally wrong.
And anyhoo.. I like the original better  (Why's Tron have a motocycle helmet??!!)

Oh man, don't get me started on that helmet.
Well, if Disney compensated Gabe for his work then I guess it's fair. But if he wasn't compensated . . . then that's plagiarism of the worst kind.
The article implies he wasn't compensated.

The jackasses I used to work for felt the helmets worked for the game. It was mainly to prevent payments to people for likeness in my opinion. If TRON has a helmet, he doesn't look like Bruce Boxleitner, so they only pay for the voice and not the face.

Yeah, I'm pretty shocked by it all. And yeah, the helmet thing is lame. To add motorcycle helmets like that in the Tron world is rediculous.
That's interesting to hear the decision may have been due to not wanting to pay the original actor, or whatever. I never would've thought that would be the reason, but it kind've makes sense. Sucks that Disney can't/won't make Tron their Star Wars and pump millions of bucks into it 
I remember seeing "Halo"-like helmets in the artwork for the XBOX version of Tron 2.0. I'm not sure if it made it into the game like that, but to even have it considered like that showed a lack of knowledge and appreciation of Tron, imo. LOL! That looks so lame!!  Generic Tron anyone? It looks like what someone would do if they *didn't* have the Tron license. Hard to imagine that was actually put out by Disney.
Well, if you're worried about having too close of a likeness to, say, Bruce Boxleitner, it looks like opaque helmets totally obscuring the face is the way to go!!

BTW, before I forget . . .
There was a concept art image that showed the Light Cyclist Gamebot with a helmet. So this was proposed for the original Tron 2.0 as well.
HOWEVER . . . that helmet looked cool. Sleek and stylish, like Tron.

I could see if they made us look like Tron characters, and if we got a wack, the glow from armor popping up may make you look like you're wearing a helmet. That would be terrific.

Ugh. That's disturbing how similiar the artwork is. If it was really stolen from the artist, that just kills the respect points right there.
Anyway, the halo helmet thing = dumb. Granted, I thought I'd like to point out the funny little problem with Tron 2.0 Killer App. While Tron appears to have the crappy halo helmet, but the picture that pops up next to his dialogue shows otherwise! (The true Tron helmet.)

How much you wanna bet that at some point one of the people at Disney, probably Marketing, thought or said out loud, that people might be fooled into playing TRON Xbox if the characters looked like Halo? I would put money on it. Unfortunately I can't prove it.
