Arts and Crafts

on Tuesday, July, 12, 2005 7:57 PM
Well, took a break from typography studies. Had some chenille stems sitting around. An idea hit me and here is the result.

Guard is there for size reference. This is just a concept hence the colors. Didn't want to waist the neon green ones on the first round. He looks a little wonky, but thats the way chenille stems handel.

I made him at my mom's office. I was bored and was on tron-sector. I saw your critter and decided to make one of my own. Around 2:00.

About 7 min. Do you know how much it hurts after bending alot of paperclips? (My poor fingers)order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

I love the additional shots of your grid bugs, Sketch!

And you also did a fine job with your grid bug, Surk!

Those pictures inspired me to make a grid bug of my own at work today.

But...

I had trouble coming up with good materials to construct my own grid bug.

I'm not very good at crafts or things like that.

I looked around the office for some good grid bug building materials...

We have plenty of office supplies, but it wasn't easy finding materials sturdy enough to construct a grid bug.

Tape...

Rulers...

Paper...

Scissors...

Cardboard...

I had some trouble finding just the right supplies.

Plus, I didn't want to get in trouble for wasting office supplies or anything.

I mean, grid bugs are not a waste to me, but the boss might see differently.

Then it dawned on me!

Yes, I have some resources at work that might make a decent grid bug!

And so I gathered the necessary supplies and had a mission in mind!

One by one, I got the legs gathered up and assembled.

Then for the main body...

And then, I had to find something that could resemble the grid bug head...

And it just so happened that co-worker brought in his digital camera to capture the greatness of my grid bug

I was going to use my camera phone, but it would not do it justice.

And so...

BEHOLD!

My own attempt, though it be a bit unorthodox, of making a TRON grid bug!

Scroll down a bit...

...

...

...

...

...

Taa daa!

Maybe my grid bug is not the best home made grid bug, but it IS the BIGGEST one!

So... do you like it?

I'd like to thank these guys by name for helping with this, but I'm not sure they want their names mentioned. They were kind enough to help out but didn't seem much in to it. Actually, only one other guy had ever even seen a grid bug and that was a while back! I tried to look them on on the internet, but wouldn't you know it - there are no grid bug images on the internet! Or at least not that I could find in less than 10 minutes (not including the teeny tiny ones in the arcade game of TRON and other low res grid bugs in games). I'll fix that by uploading some film grid bug images to TRON-Sector some time soon.

So, anyone else going to show off their grid bugs?

Should I make an official contest of this? I don't have any great prizes... really just some build points and a plug on the main page, but if people would like to participate in a contest, just let me know and I'll make it official.

My gawd Todd... I'm not just speechless... I'm stunned at what you've done. You've topped everyone on originality! CLASSIC!

It's so crazy it's brilliant... yet so brilliant it's crazy. Yep, only this oddity of an idea could come from the mind of Todd.

Great job Todd!
Todd... level with me... are you the one at work that keeps the water cooler crowd talking with your antics. Their lucky to have someone as crazy as you to keep the atmosphere at work lively and fun. Awsome!

It looks like I've started a Gridbug trend.

Mind if I tinker with that image a little Todd?order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Thanks for your kind words, Sketch.

And yes, I do get talked about at work a little. Actually, we all make fun of each other at the office... we all have our things that we pick on about each other. Of course, I make it easy when it comes to things to pick on me about!

Go ahead.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

In fact, I just e-mailed you the original image if that helps (hi-res file).

Sketch, those are cool...the prototype is demented. Not in a really bad way, but gridbugs should not be PINK...

Surk, cool gridbug.

Todd, you're insane...
