So I turn on my new PC today (about 2.5 weeks old) and windows XP is acting all flaky. McAffee wont load properly, I couldn't connect to the internet and things like search and the task bar were not functioning properly.
I called Dell who walked me through restoring system defaults.. which wiped everything clean... but also fixed the problem.
It wasnt that big of a deal restoring system defaults.. I didnt have that much installed.
What I am wondering is if anyone else has had this problem? With windows XP? On a newer Dell computer?

Can't say that I have over here. And I am working on a older dell over here that had a version of windows XP on it. Personally I have tried out windows XP. And for those who are running XP home or Professional. Don't take this as a personal attack on yourself. If you like it then thats okay Because of your personal preferences to it. It Refering to windows XP. just never really caught my fancy and stuck with windows 2000 pro over here. And has been stable since it came out in 2000. But thats just me over here.

I have an HP with XP running on it, and I've had to re-install a couple times over the year or so that I've owned it. The last time was because of a virus, but the other times were just cuz windows was acting like it was hitting the pipe again
I don't think Microsoft should be allowed to make a new OS till they can fix the ones they already have first ________________________

I have had to reinstall windows 3 times on my computer [most of the time it's my fault. putting too mush rubbish on there.] apart from this, my little novatech PC [not sure if there is novatech in USA. the main UK HQ is almost literally on my doorstep. it has been upgraded twice and it is now an ultimate powerhouse ] has been so good for me words of wisdom from...

I hope this doesn't happen a lot because I am not overly interested in having to re-install all my applications every few weeks.

I'm on my third reinstall.
One Virus, one hack and one upset XP.
Just be sure to back up stuff to CD alot (oh, I can't do that either 'cause my CD drive is fried).
The only real problem is all the dang Windows updates. This is a several year old version, and I'm on a 56k connection.

I'm fortunatge that I have tape backup and a small server that I can transfer over the stuff that Ihave. Like something close to about 40 gigs of stuff on tape and on the server that I have here so when it comes back to reinstall I have everything there. when it comes to restore.

I bought a HP 2 years ago and still it lives.... cos i have no internet, i made the decision to run the internet on my older machine and not give anyone or anything the chance to eat my precious files. I think its totally worth getting a nice computer for dedicated work and then digging deep for a lower standard machine that you wouldn't mind restarting.

I try to do a format/ reinstall every 6 months. Keeps things clean and fast. If you want something thats faster and more stable then windows xp...take a look at fedora 3 or another linux distribution
To avoid a lot of download time. Have a buddy grab this file on a high speed connection then burn to a cd. It wont have all of the updates but it clears a big chunk of them.

Funny thing is, this old HP 521n with a 1.4 processor will actually run like a bear, if I keep it cleaned up. Get rid of all that default HP tour stuff, and useless programs they like to put on there.
Once I can finally afford to upgrade, I may clean this thing all up, put a Linux OS on it and see just how much I can do with it. Don't you wish your corruption was hot like me? |

Yeah I would have to agree that Linux in some ways is slightly better than windows OS in someways. Better control of things and its the good old command line similar to lik dos. But mor of a unix environment there. I used to work with AIX a number of years ago when I was in IT at the company that I am working at now. Since you can decide what you want to put in the os instead of having the GUI that looks and feels like windows or what ever OS you want it to look like.
Ny two nextstations that I hav I find good to work with and they are running freBSD on thos for the Motorola CPU's. I would like to learn on something that still uses th Linux enviro. But mor on a RISC type of machine. Due to that its more power with less power consumption. Just t be differnt than the rst. Likethe INdigo2, O2, Sun Mictosystems etc.

I have WinXP Professional and just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows for the first time in like 3 or 5 years. I think it was more like 5 years. My "Start > Programs" list was a mile long! It's nice to start fresh again.
I haven't had very many issues with WinXP Pro but I'm computer savvy enough, though, to get myself out of jams. If I wasn't, I might be screwed.
I've found it a million times more stable than Win98 was.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Hrm. This wasn't a jam though. This was pretty much Windows was hosed.
