Okay.... I was walking through the college surplus room today and ran accross a vintage computer. I mean it still had a wooden case and they were selling it for 1$ Can! I have no complete idea of the maker beyond VDS. But it was defiantely cool. But I have no where to put it at home, so I suggested to my sis (Who works at our local museum) for the museum to buy it. I have it on hold right now so no one can touch it. But it was an awesome find! ^^ So I just had to tell you guys! I mean the machine is older than Tron!
*Happy dance*

Oh the legacy days!
Anyways, here's a pic I googled of the monitor:
And A pic I tried to google of the keyboard. This is pretty close to the one I saw only it was much bigger, it was dark brown with grey keys and had the "Video Data Systems" logo on it:
And the case looked a lot like a wood box with some grooves made for the monitor and a few holes drilled in.
I'll post my skecth tommorrow since I don't have access to a camera of any sort.
Anyways, I bought this computer for 1$ and they removed the tax! So since I don't have the room for it, I donated this to the local museum. Turns out it was way older than anything they ever had (My guess that this compy came from 1979 I think.... I think that was pretty accurate! ) and the curator was quite excited about it! ^^
It was a really good thing I got the computer to start with! Surplus was planning to throw it away after today! So you could say I rescued a computer today. Of course, brining it in to the office and waiting for the curator to show up had everyone distracted. They just had to pass by to get a look at it. They were pretty excited about it too. Even one of my co-workers gave me a dollar to go and buy it too! It was pretty awesome!

I did a google search even further over here. Since I seem to have better luck in getting specs for it. Its an actual terminal that you can hook up to like a LAN but its menat for more like a VAX VMS, mini or mainframe computer. . Built in 82 Surprise surprise... Do you want me to post the specs for it here? to give you more of an idea of what it is capableof?

Thats one place that I thought of automatically to check up on it Kia. Tried searching under just the name of it. No luck. Unless we went by the manudfacturer. But we don't have that available there. .
Kamui is there a actual manufacturer name on it somewhere that we could use to check out. It should be located by the serial number at the bottome on the base of the machine there somewhere.

It's already at the museum! ^^;; Maybe I'll have my sis check in to that the next time I see her.
But I do know a few things. Firstly, I learned from the curator that the computer I was looking at was a kit computer.... which explains the wood case. Secondly, the names I picked up off of it were "Electrohome" and "VDS/Video Data Systems"
Anyways, Compucore, keep posting those stats! You really have my curiosity over here!
And as far as that sketch goes, I'll be heading up to the scanning room later today to give it a scan. It's not the most awesome sketch I've ever came up with but I think it pretty much gets the point accross.
Anyways, those guys at Surplus were pretty much laughing at me when they saw me later that day. They were pretty much saying 'Why would you want such a useless old thing? You'd have to be pretty stupid for buying it!" Then I told them all that I've learned about it and about classic computing and everything and that what they had there did indeed have some value. There were indeed some supprised gasps after that. in the end, they were the stupid ones for not knowing what it was and even stupider for thinking that I was stupid/naive enough to buy it! Of course I knew what I was getting in to unbeknowist to them! Hey! They were laughing at me! They deserved to hear that stuff! Of course, they're not laughing anymore! My dad keeps on saying through out the rest of the day that I rescued a piece of history. I guess you could say that he was right.....

Okay I'm back here. Excuse for the double post here. For those who are interested in know the specs here like I was when Kamui had shown the picture earlier there. Here is the web site where that may have one themselves there. It is at http://www.computer-archiv.de/ It's a;lmost at th bottom of th pag there. And its marked Video data systems. When Kamui had shown the computer image./ I've always wanted to find out what is in there as well. Cause I'm always facinated with what the capabilities of the machine. And for fun to know what it has as a standard and optional things for it.
