DaveTRON had a contest a while back asking for us to do some glow effects based on a black & white photo. Well, here was my attempt. Please let me know what you think. I know there are many approaches that could've been taken, I was trying do similar Tron effects as the movie. I'm also curious to see what we all came up with. Feel free to post yours, if you still have it.

Ahh - you went for the 'independent' yellow program look, Boingo_Buzzard.
Interesting. I figured everyone would try and recreate the standard blue program look. You're definitely an independent thinker!

Hey Boingo_Buzzard! That looks great!!!! Good job! Yes, my Tron instinct was to go with blue; I didn't even think to do a different color! So 'props' to you for true originality!

Thanks. I was actually looking at the trading card of Clu when I was doing it... and just couldn't quite get that same "glow" feel to it.
The Tron characters had this neat neon type glow going on, even in the stills that I just couldn't reproduce faithfully. It's definately harder than it looks.
Astro, you did a good job. I like yours. Kinda of like acid washed glow

Since there are a million paths an artist can venture down when creating, I feel it would've been nearly impossible to haphazardly achieve what you were looking for Cartoony? Surrealistic? Cubism? Manga (or whatever everyone always talks about here)? Realism? True to TRON? Bright effects? Dim effects? Particular color scheme? Paint entirely over that black & white dude?
Yes, so many paths. If Sketch hasn't done one yet, I think you should just tell him exactly what you're looking for and he can create!! It sounds like the contest is over, so hook a Sketch up

Just got through doing a glow test a few seconds ago. Here are the results...
Still need to test out some other layer combinations to achieve a better glow.
