US Space Program

on Tuesday, February, 08, 2005 10:57 PM
I am in the process of scanning all of these materials I have collected in 40 years of life to store on nice shiny discs instead of in dozens of folders in my office. I have a binder of around 200 pages of old news clipping about the US Space Program.

I started collecting these with my Grandfather's help in the late 60's. I actually have clippings for the first moon landing. They are in such bad shape that scanning is the best thing to preserve them at this point. They were falling apart.

I am kind of re-realizing how incredibly cool the history of our space program is. I have a clipping of the first shuttle launch, russian launches too! This is a great little collection of stuff, and now I can keep it digitally instead of moldering on paper.

If anyone is interested in this stuff, get in touch.

I have always been a fan of the space program, but in the past 20 years it's tapered off a lot. This is reminding me of how cool it is and what heroes these people really are.

One of the pieces I still have is my copy of Time from the Challenger disaster. I cried for days over that.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Well when the space race was on during the 60's & 70's it was a differnt place at that time compared to what it is today. Now you only hear about the space program that are putting up Satelites into space or sending robots off to places to discover other life on other local planets in our solar systems. It has started to become common that ou hear when you have astronauts going into space to do certain tests experiments as well at times.

Yeah, it's too bad these are not things that are looked up to anymore. It's so commonplace that people forget the effort that goes into it. Look at the difference between the last shuttle disaster and the first one. I think the impact on the American psyche was so much larger the first time around. It's sad that it was just a few days of news and then forgotten.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

There's too much pointless destruction going on in the world today that it, unfortunately, is also common place. And this is just the tip of the iceberg without going in to political views (which I don't think anyone wants me to bring up. Politics = more fighting )

I am very interested in the space program. I'm not sure if this is of intererest to anyone but myself, but my name is on the Stardust spacecraft.

As a little kid, I was an avid follower of the Space Shuttle program (and all things related to aviation and spaceflight) since before they even started the ALT's. I probably have my clippings of the first shuttle launches in storage somewhere.

My visit to the Kennedy Space Center & Cape Canavaral was very awe-inspiring. I got to walk across the same gantry walkway that the Apollo astronauts walked across to get to their capsule. I saw a Saturn V up close and man is that thing HUGE! I saw the Vehicle Assembly Building which is just massive. I walked throught the rocket garden. I touched a moon rock. I even got a glimpse of a couple of shuttles in the Obiter Processing Facility.

I'm really excited by the new direction of the space program. Establishing a permant presence on the moon is something we should've done back in the 1970's, but better late than never. And using a permanent base as a stepping stone for a manned mission to Mars is just an awesome prospect.

DaveTRON, if I run across my clippings, I'll let you know, and if you want to add them to your collection I'll be glad to send you some scans.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

I'd love to. If you want copies of mine, I can burn you a disc. I was staring at a clipping from the first shuttle launch a little while ago. Color pic from the LA times of that very first liftoff. Very cool.

I was at Edwards AFB once when they transported Enterprise to Florida and Columbia was landing. So we got to see one take off and another come down.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Yeah, when you get done I'd love a copy, thank you!

So you saw the Columbia land and the Enterprise take off on the back of one of the modified 747 SCAs. You lucky dog!order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Part of that FAQ says this:
How can I contact a person whose name is on one of the microchips?

Contact information is not available for any persons listed on the microchips through the STARDUST office. We did not collect any email addresses or other contact information for the individuals listed on the chips.
All ya need to do is go to Tron-Sector.com and you get to talk to one of 'em! abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

MM,

In one of the photo albums I am converting to digital I have a shot straight up into the air as the 747 took off over our heads with Enterprise on it's back. As soon as I come across it I'll post it. That was an awesome day for me.

One of my other prize posessions is a collection of all the original Apollo patches, not the store bought kind, REAL NASA on the uniform type patches. My grandfather made me a frame by hand and mounted them on green felt and it hangs in my garage above my workbench proudly.

I hang it there because all my fondest memories of him are in the garage. He had the coolest garage.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Man I feel OLD!

It seems like just yesterday when they herded all us fifth graders in to the media center at school to watch the historic FIRST blast-off of the Space Shuttle Columbia! Hard to believe that was... 25 years ago? Wow. I also remember the Space Shuttle Enterprise! But that one never got made it out there, did it? I just remember seeing it mounted on top of a modified airplane and reading about it coasting back down to earth after being launched from an airplane (not reaching space)... or is that a false memory? I thought it was cool that they named it "Enterprise" after Star Trek's NCC-1701 Enterprise.

How many people clearly remember the WHITE center fuel component of the early shuttle launches? I remember how odd it looked to me the first time they didn't paint it white and just left it rust-colored.

I've always been very fascinated with the space program, but in recent years I've been very disappointed with the lack of much going on. We visited the moon for the last time in the early 70's... and haven't been back since. The space shuttle fleet is old, inefficient, and expensive to maintain - where are the newer, more advanced ships? We've landed some robotic surveyors on Mars - that's promising... but I bet the whole Mars thing goes nowhere quick too.

I think space exploration could offer so much, mainly in terms of just exploring what's out there and advancing interplanetary travel. It's so very fascinating to me. But it just seems like so little is going on these days. Budget cuts, politics, and (what I see as) a lack of effort to better the technology. It's a damn shame. We'll be nowhere close to traveling to distant stars in our lifetime. We'll be lucky to land humans on Mars in our lifetime.

Ok, disappointed in the lack of progress, but I'm still very fascinated with space exploration!

I think the Mars missions are great. I think the things going on out at Jupiter and Saturn are great.

I agree the Shuttle needs to be upgraded. Lets get those Super Shuttles from Armageddon into action!

I am hoping before the end of my life there are permanent locations on the moon and maybe even spending a little time there myself.

I've got to look a little deeper into what's going on in the Space Program and get involved somehow. It's too cool to forget.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

OK, here we go:

Enterprise, completed in September of 1976, was actually supposed to be named Constitution, but a bunch of Star Trek fans wrote in and got it named Enterprise.

Enterprise was used in the ALTs, or Approach and Landing Tests, in which the orbiter was mated to the SCA, or Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, a specially modified 747, flown high up above Edwards AFB and released. The two shuttle pilots aboard then flew it in for a landing. You may have seen pictures of the Enterprise gliding high in the air with an aerodynamic tail cone covering the main engines of the orbiter, and an instrument boom on the nose. After it was decided that it would be too difficult to convert Enterprise from its ALT configuration into a space-rated Orbiter (it was easier to convert the structural-test vehicle Challenger into a space-rated Orbiter,) it was turned over to the Smithsonian.

BTW, there were initially two vehicles intended to be space-rated Orbiters, Enterprise and Columbia, and two test articles, Challenger and Pathfinder. Pathfinder is a 75-ton orbiter simulator used for testing Orbiter handling procedures, and sometimes for standing in for Enterprise in some tests. It has since been converted to look like an actual orbiter and is on display in Alabama. Also, there is a Space Shuttle replica, Explorer, on display at Kennedy.

As for the white paint on the External Tank, not painting it white saves about 1,000 lbs, which means 1,000 lbs more cargo that can be carried into orbit.
