My wife picked this up for me today. It wasn't really a Christmas present or anything, but she knew I wanted it because I saw them demonstrating one at the mall the other day and I thought it was really cool.

I came close to buying it myself, but I knew it was probably cheaply constructed, would break easily, and was way over priced.

I was right. It's cheaply constructed, made of styrofoam and held together with cellophane tape (believe it or not). It does indeed break easily. I've already had to make repairs on it with more tape because the blade tends to chip away at the inside every time it lands (or crashes). Over priced? You betcha - it was just under $30.00 including tax.

Is it fun?

YEP! I've been playing with mine on and off for several hours. It just goes up and down, and sways around a little along the way. You can't control which direction it hovers, just how high. But it's a lot of fun for some reason. It looks REALLY cool in the dark too although it's more difficult to maintain proper height that way.

BTW - I was flying that little saucer-o-fun with my left hand and taping it with the cam in my right hand at the same time.

So... what do you have? Be it a Christmas present or just something you've had for a while - what useless but fun item would you like to share?

Yeah - those little critters are not very sturdy.

When I opened the box, I could tell that someone else had already owned it and returned it because there were some scratches on the remote and the cords were not all wrapped perfect. But I figured I'd keep it if it worked... and didn't break too much the first day. It does work, though I've had to repair it a little so far.

They are fun though, eh? I don't know if it will survive the rest of the week... or even another day. But it is fun to play with. I wish I could steer where it flew though. It always ends up finding its way near a wall if I keep it in the air long enough.

They are fun, but only briefly. I want one I can fly around and zoom over people's heads. This one you can't do anything more than go up and down.

Yeah - I'd REALLY like to have some kind of flying/hovering thing that I could maneuver around, and not just up and down. I remember reading about such a device several months back - it even had a built in camera option. I forget the name of it, but it had 4 propellers at the end of it's arms which were attached to a central area where a mini-cam could be mounted. I was seriously thinking about getting one, until I found out that the price was somewhere around $1,000.00 for the regular unit and $300.00 or $400.00 more for the cam unit. And on top of that, it could only remain air bound for about 5 minutes at a time before the battery was drained. Aside from the price and the very limited airtime, this thing was really cool. Not sure how sturdy it was, but I doubt it was made of styrofoam.
