I've been scanning a bunch of TRON clippings loaned to me by Harrison Ellenshaw. A lot of them are reviews of the film.
This one in particular just pissed me off, how does an ahole like this get a column in a newspaper?

Wow. I find this really funny. This really shows the anti-technology feelings many people had back then that Lisberger was talking about in the dvd. Amazingly there are still people like this.
Ha ha ha! He really would of been tramatized if he had stayed and watched Sark get his digibrains spilled onto the floor.
I might need to draw that out when I get the chance. I can see the image of the fathers futile efforts to cover little Sarah and Jimbos eyes from the evil image of Sark getting a flying deadly disc through the forehead. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

In all honesty, it's so ridiculous that it appears to be a spoof on other curmudgeonly reviews. All I can say is that my kids have watched Tron and have NEVER seen hard-core porn. But that's just me and my Midwestern values.

It's possible, but why even publish crap like this? It's a waste of paper and it's total garbage. I feel bad even giving it time, but I thought the rest of you might enjoy seeing how deep it got for Steven and his team.

"My America"?
Sounds pretty scary there, Ed.
He doesn't even explain HOW Tron threatens his kid's "spiritual well being." Strange. His kids are probably in their 30s now and still living under a rock if dad was at all successful in his attempts to shelter them from the outside world. heh. Then again, they probably don't actually exist. Those kids AND this article could have been a complete fabrication altogether...hey, kinda like virtual reality!
I see it got cut off at the end. Was there any more rhetoric worth laughing at?

Ouch!
I'm not sure... but I don't think he cared for the film much.
He sounds like an intelligent guy though - wishing his kids see x-rated films rather than a fun and fantastic journey inside the computer. Computers and video games were just a trashy, filthy, spiritual well being threatening fad of the 80's anyway. It's not like they went anywhere, right? Yep, x-rated films are definitely less mind-rotting for kids
What this review should have read is:
'TRON Review by Ed Anger' and insult to newspapers and film critics around the world
Jeez - what a dipsh*t.
Wouldn't it be funny if his kids grew up to become TRON fans anyway?

Tron threatens him because he doesn't like anything that doesn't start up with a hand crank. Period.
"Back in MY day, we used to walk 5 miles to school uphill and in the snow...BOTH WAYS! We didn't have none of them fancy-pants VIDEOGAMES when we got home! NO! We had Lincoln Logs, that we carved out of branches and trees ourselves, to entertain us! These newfangled gizmos are THE DEVIL! Look at those red, blinking lights! Them's the DEVIL'S EYES!!!!"
And so, this is why cantankerous old farts should never be given a newspaper column.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I don't think those people would really exist anymore right now because computers are everywhere!
(We won, bwahahahaha.)
Seriously, that article is just painful to read. The writer obviously cannot let go of his closed-mindness and really enjoy film that was meant to be enjoyed.

Woah. If they really had that kind of resonse to Tron, I can see why it didnt do to well...
I really feel bad for that guy... even more than the fact that he didn't like Tron, (which is sad enough) he seems opposed to technology altogether! ...That's sad.
As for X-rated stuff being better than Tron, well, that certantly says something about his personality... (I kid, I kid!)

The writing is awful too. This person doesn't have any style whatsoever. But then again it was 22 years ago.

Disney was spreading out into more adult themes.
"The Black Hole" and "Splash" are Disney productions aimed at very mature adults.
Disney took a huge gamble to make movies for mature audiences in the late 1970's spreading into the 1980's.
I can imagine how Tron was a reaction to people as a "Disney" movie.
For instance, I personally thought that the torture sequence of "Clu" by the MCP was a little too harsh.
I'm surprised that a director's cut is not made where that torture "Clu" sequence is cut out.
Also, Jeff Bridges acting is scrutinized during the "Clu" torture sequence because Bridges losses the "Clu" robot voice accent and talks like an every day "Flynn" human. Big mistake.
Looking back can anyone really admit that Tron was a family movie?
I think not.

I wasn't bothered by the torture scene. (The first time I saw it when I was 10 in 1992...)
In fact, I still loved the movie. Maybe I didn't understand some parts of it, but I still absoutely loved it! I don't see how the torture scene was bad as it didn't really scar me for life or something.

The "Clu" Tron torture sequence still scars me today and I'm a full grown adult.
LOL!
Don't get me wrong I like Tron.
The idea of a Disney film was "Bambie" and "Snow White".
Since Tron a lot has changed, that's all.
I personally found Disney's "The Black Hole" to have a very scary and disturbing ending. Shocking to think Disney ever had a hand in that particular movie.
This is just my own personal opinion of course.
I still like Tron but it had its slips and falls not be noticed as a clean cut "family movie", which is what a Disney movie was all about before Tron.
For instance Sarks brains spilling out of his skull towards the end of Tron may have shocked people.
I thought that was COOL!
Tron ROCKED!

I can. Go see 'The incredibles', they've got a torture scene in there, yet it's considered a family film... ------------

Totally agree on the Weekly World news, but her's something from the mainstream media, Rex Reed, and frankly, this is a luddite review. This is not a man who had an open mind.
This is posted in the Image Galleries if this version isn't big enough.
