Internet Explorer Help Request - CTRL + ENTER

on Wednesday, November, 24, 2004 7:28 PM
Okay, so here's my dilemma. On every PC that I use that has Internet Explorer 6, I can ust CTRL + ENTER to have my URL automatically completed when I type one into the address bar.

For example, if you type tron-sector into the address bar then hit CTRL + ENTER, the preceding http://www. will automatically be added, and the succeeding .com will be tacked onto the end and the page will open up.

The problem? Well, it works on every PC that I use EXCEPT MY HOME COMPUTER! *ugh* I've tried Google searches and everything and have not figured out how to activate CTRL + ENTER so it works on my machine. Most people I talk to don't even know about this Windows/IE shortcut. It may not seem like it, but it really is a nice shortcut once you get used to it.

Does anyone know how to activate it? Is there an option I'm not seeing in IE or Windows somewhere?

Sincerely,

Is autocomplete on?

Another option is to just type in the website name... tron-sector.... and .com or whatever and it should go.

No, autocomplete isn't on and it wouldn't make this feature work. I have auto-complete off on every other PC I use and the CTRL+ENTER feature still works fine. I know you can just add the .com, etc., and am familiar with other things I could do, but I specifically really want the CTRL+ENTER to work.

I like CTRL + ENTER! Or, as Jar-Jar would say: "Meesa likey Controlsa Enter!"

Okay, I can't believe I just spoke in Jar-Jarese. My apologies to everyone in this forum.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Arrrgh, you were right. Sorry! I could've swore other PCs didn't have autocomplete on, but it seems as though I was gravely misled I

kmon, you rock! A long time Traahn mystery has been solved!!!!!!!!! I wonder why that feature is embedded in the AutoComplete feature. That's kind've lame.

For those who haven't tried CTRL+ENTER, consider using it!

With autocomplete on, you don't even need to hold down the Ctrl key. As long as you type enough characters to distinguish the address you want, the browser will complete the address for you and all you have to hit is the Enter key by itself.

UPDATE: Problem not entirely solved. I don't have AutoComplete on the other PCs, as I suspected, yet CTRL + Enter works on those machines *sigh*

I don't like AutoComplete, so if anyone has any other ideas I could try then I'm all ears. Well, actually mostly binary code, but you know what I mean

*bump*

Thought I'd bring this to the top again, though I get the feeling I'm maybe asking for the Rosetta Stone on this one.

Some day, someone will step up to the I/O tower and enlighten me. In the meantime, I'll just bump this to the top from time to time

This might not be the best place to find the answer you are looking for. Check for spyware. Google for something like internet explorer help ctrl-enter. Light a black candle at midnight while chanting.

I've tried several internet searches before, and it's not Spyware. I'm still holding hope a program here will some day know the answer my user seeks.

End of line.
