What Are You Most Interested In?

on Tuesday, October, 12, 2004 1:45 PM
This is a TRON fan site, and in my opinion, it needs more TRON activity.

I am interested in knowing what you, the fans, are interested in knowing and seeing regarding TRON.

Tell me below what kind of information will help you to get more involved in this site.

I'm really glad you asked, Dave.

One thing I think this site lacks is simply being up to date on a small portion of the content contained within some of the links to our left...

For instance, the "Fan Sites" link hasn't changed as far as I can remember since I joined last year. 2 of the links lead to expired sites leaving us with 1. Surely there must be other fan sites out there to link to that could and should be mentioned.

Also, I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't any new additions to the music gallery. Come to think of it, there really isn't a "Music Gallery" section of its own per se. Was there a reason that all of the MIDIs that once graced this site were removed way back when? How about more MP3s from the movies and games? Even fan inspired compositions? I guess that sort of thing would get me more excited to come here more often and contribute.

I guess overall, I've always felt that this site could be, and should be, the end all, be all of Tron sites...so that anyone who comes here will find every bit of Tron related content their heart desires, or at the very least, a link to the sites that contain what they're looking for.

Other than that, I can't say enough of how awesome this site is, because I have found content here that simply can't be had elsewhere when I need my Tron fix.
Thanks.

You don't want to ask me that question.

So instead of quoting the obvious responses that would relate to my agenda, let me come up with other things.

Yes, I agree about the Fan Site links. They're woefully out of date. Also, I'm certain there was some content on the old "www.tron-movie.com" site that still hasn't migrated over to Tron-Sector. (Though I could be wrong.)

One last point, which I don't think much can be done about . . . I'd like to see other staff, other than you and Sketch, around more often. You seem to be holding the fort right now, DaveTRON. I miss those days when more of the staff were participating in message threads.

Hale,

I will see about the links. I don't have the ability to edit that section currently, but I might be able to get Auric to do so. I have a fairly healthy list of sites we could add. Suggestions are welcome as well.

We cannot post the music from TRON on this site as it is a copyright violation that Disney would probably not overlook. They still sell the music, so it doesn't get posted here. As it is, any time they want they can swoop in here and remove 90% of the material here and shut down this site if they choose to do so.

Fan created music is a different story. If someone has a composition they want to have posted here all they need do is write to me and I will arrange to get it online.

I am hoping Auric can add an uploads section for submissions at some point. Then once we clear them they can go to their appropriate sections.

I don't know about old MIDI files, but I will look into it. MIDIs are normally horrible, but if you want them, we'll try to get them.

We appreciate that you think this site is awesome, and within the bounds of legal reality, we will provide as much material as we can. Just realize that there are limits.

Redrain85,

See my response above on the links. Again, suggested additions are welcome and required if we are not aware of other sites.

I'll look into any content that was on the TRON Movie site that we might not have here. Anything specific you can note for me?

As for other staff, Auric's user is buried at his day job right now and he simply cannot be here like he wants to be. I will try to coax TRONProgram back into the limelight and Esotek still checks in to read messages, but he's not much at posting lately.

I think my interesting little place in the TRON universe helps me to have more to say and do here, and the fact that I am a rabid collector with a small creative streak helps too. All we can do is ask the others to try to be more visible, and I will do that.

I don't have any immediate ideas that differ greatly from the already mentioned items, but in general - I'd like to see this site be FULLY functional. There are many quirks to it.

Don't get me wrong - I think Auric has done a GREAT job on The Sector but I would like to see things like the "Search" function work, the ability to edit one's profile properly corrected, the "links" be better maintained, etc.

I understand that Auric is one busy program these days - I know that feeling FIRST hand! But between his technical assistance and your loads-o-TRON to offer - I'm sure this site can REALLY light up

Step one seems to already be in good order - YOU (DaveTRON) have been pouring TRON back in to the site with some great stuff like the "Around the World" and "TRON Reference" bits. It's GREAT to see more regular updates on the main page - I'm starting to pay more attention to the main page now

Step two would be getting this site tweaked and up to speed on the technical end, with said items being corrected, updated, etc.

Step three - well, we need some better I/O options for the site. I think the ability to actually allow the registered TRON-Sector Users to really digitize themselves in to their computers while on-line here would be a GREAT addition Yes, and with the new laser technology available today... um... ok, that's a LONG ways away, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Corruption,

Links noted. As soon as we can add them, we will.

ReelTodd,

I am sure Auric will do his best, gotta help him get over the hump on some other issues first. Know any good programmers? He needs a couple where his User works!

Steps One and Two will be dealt with as much as possible.

Step Three, well I am going to have to put one of those PayPal charity links on the site in order to buy that new laser!

EDIT: Congrats on Post 600! I rememebr those days! Just a few months ago as I recall! abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Yeah, I don't want to see this site lose its place on the net over copyright infringement, so my suggestion for movie and game MP3s was bad. On the other hand, those of us who have a quality soundcard can really enjoy a quality sequenced MIDI. Admittedly, and generally, MIDIs aren't anything like having the real thing, but can still be appreciated by those who like to collect them and analyze them (that's the geek in me talking).
I have a number of Tron MIDIs that can be found on my site in my sig link. Feel free to grab them as always.

Hmmm, and come to think of it, it seems that most of the old Tron fan sites that I remember have come and gone, while some have simply merged their content with tron-sector. So, I guess the additions there would be minimal at best. In any case, if I come across anything worth mentioning, I will.

For links, might I suggest:

http://www.kenauer.de/dso/index.html- Personal site of Xistence, who created the fabulous Disc Arena maps for .

http://www.zynaps.com/- Very slick online Java Light Cycles game.

http://www.patchgonebad.com/tronfaq- Oh, heh . . . I had to sneak this one in. My Unofficial FAQ.

For things on the old www.tron-movie.com site that are missing . . . I'm racking my brains here. The site's been down now for months, and at the moment www.archive.org isn't working.

I seem to remember some more video clips. Like a commercial for when it premiered on Sky One in the UK, for example. And more information about the Laser Disc release of . . . what it contained and/or some kind of review. There was more music as well . . . but you've already explained the situation.

I'll see if I can remember more, and post what I recall.

Didn't tron-movie also have the knock-off anime? Some of the characters in it were rip-offs of Tron. The bad guy looked almost just like Sark.

As to my involvement in the site, I too have been pretty busy with work and have been having some personal family issues to deal with lately but I do drop in regularly.

There is quite a bit of stuff from Tron-movie.com that hasn't been migrated. I encountered some uploading errors last few times I attempted the transfer. I'll try again soon and see if we are back to normal.

Yes, I haven't been visiting as often so I haven't replied to this because I didn't know it was being discussed

First off, I think you've done a great job of trying to create more activity here. I've noticed several things you've done the past while to try and help things here.

That aside, to help people get more involved in the site I think a big thing (at least for 56K users) would be better site navigation. I posted a thread detailing several things that I thought would help the site's usability, but nobody every replied. Maybe someone eventually replied, but not the last time I checked. I wrote it to try and help.

I don't know how many 56K users there are of this site, but assume there are several. Subtle things the site does can make someone less apt to get involved. For example, when you enter a thread, it always defaults to the first page of a thread. There's no way that I know of to make it instead jump to the last page. And after replying, it kicks you back to the first page. There were other things I mentioned in that thread.

I think another one I mentioned is that it's difficult to keep track of conversations you're involved in. Other forums I've seen have a "My Assistant" pop-up where you can view your last 10 posts and quickly jump to those posts to see if anyone has replied. This is very helpful for me in keeping track of conversations I'm involved with and inspiring me to act. The assistant also lets you see the top forum posters of the day and all-time. Just subtle things, but cool things.

As of last night, I'm in the 'high-speed broadband internet connection' world now, so 56K issues aren't as problematic for me. But having been a 56K user in the past, I know from experience that a few subtle things could make the experience be so much easier and less challenging.

Not being able to do searches is another thing that makes it more difficult for 56K users. When you're looking for something in particular or trying to quickly find a conversation you were involved in, it's very difficult to click through all the different threads to find the one post you're needing. Even with broadband, an effective search tool would be great!

Another thing 'navigation-related' is:
* The File Archive has vague link names and odd groupings. For example, instead of video clip categories like 'AVI Video Clips' and 'MOV Video Clips,' I think it would be beneficial to come up with more meaningful categories like 'Pre-Production Clips,' 'Production Clips,' 'Tron-Inspired Clips,' etc. This would make it easier to browse the galleries and know what information is contained within without having to click the links.

Navigation aside, here are some specific TRON related that might help things, many of which I already know aren't possible or will never happen. I'm just trying to be realistic:

1. More TRON events happening in the real world. For example:

( a ) Leaks that a sequel or remake is in the works or could be soon -- with occasional updates on the progress being made or brief mentions that there's a script being worked on.

( b ) Attempts by Disney to bring seriousness and sophistication to the film through Marketing efforts. Reach a wider audience with TRON and make it something cool rather than something people mock.

( b ) More involvement by Disney to tease us with TRON, to keep us on our toes, wondering what's coming next with relation to TRON -- and not just video games. It's not always easy to keep talking about something that possibly has no future after Tron: Killer App is released. If more is planned by Disney (expansion pack(s) for the PC game, etc.) then it would be cool to hear about this. Given the silence, though, I can't help but feel TRON may be dropped by Disney after the current set of games are released. There could be TRON contests: best costum

i havn't actually got anything to suggest because Traahn has voiced most of my opinions.

but i will say that quite a lot of the things he suggested can be solved with a newer, more up-to-date version of a forum.

[i find the forum kamui created very easy to use, although is doesn't have a search box for threads. that would be a neat idea]
i hope all this turns out for the bestabortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Invision Power Board seems to be a good, user-friendly board as is along the lines I was mentioning. For example: http://forums.ionstorm.com/. Not sure if it costs money though, and not sure how customizable the skins are.

A couple things, perhaps an easy way to search or otherwise bring up multiple member locations - or some way to help set up local fan gatherings.

And maybe this has been in talks before, but I think the sector definately deserves its own server for 2.0 multiplayer.

How about TRONcom, or some other TRON/Disney SciFi convention?
