H2G2

on Sunday, September, 19, 2004 3:17 PM
Just a reminder to all the Hitchhiker fans that the new radio series starts this Tuesday at 18:30 BST on BBC Radio 4

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/
Direct link to the RealAudio stream of Radio 4
Twenty-five years after the original radio series of Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy exploded into the public consciousness, the further exploits of its bewildered hero, Arthur Dent, are being brought to life in their original medium and with the (mainly) original cast.

The last three books of the ‘trilogy in five parts’, Life, The Universe And Everything; So Long And Thanks For All The Fish and Mostly Harmless, have been dramatised as two new series (none of them were previously produced for radio).

As the original two series were dubbed the Primary and Secondary Phases by Douglas Adams, these new series form the Tertiary, Quadrenary and Quintessential Phases.

Thanks to the wonders of digital technology, Douglas Adams himself can be heard playing the part of Agrajag.

Cool... I love Hitchhikers. So 6:30pm Tuesday... what time is that here? And for someone that's new to listening to the radio via a PC is there a way to record this to my PC so I can listen to it later?

Thanks,
Carl

And as for how to record it I'm not really sure. If you have a SoundBlaster card in your PC then there may be an option in the settings to set the recording source to "What You Hear" in which case you can use something like CoolEdit, SoundForge or WaveLab to record to WAV and then convert it to MP3/MP4/whatever. I'm sure someone else will know of a better way though (I'll be recording direct from my radio via the line-in on my PowerBook )

This program may help you (shareware, $11.95).

Total Recorder is a powerful, yet simple audio recording solution. Total Recorder records streaming audio directly from systems like Real Player, Windows Media Player, QuickTime and WinAmp. It can also record from cassette tapes, LPs, DVDs, CDs or through a microphone connected to your PC. The resulting recordings may be saved as wav, wma, mp3 or Ogg Vorbis audio files. The recordings may then be copied to a CD using a standard CD burner and associated software.

Mac OS X users can use Wiretap to record the stream, and then use iTunes to convert the AIFF to MP3/MP4.

The original radio series can be downloaded in MP3 format here. I'm listening to it on my iPod right now in preparation for the new series.

Here is a page that I found that should be useful:

But may I ask if you'll be recording this Mimizuku no Lew? If so maybe we could work something out. I'm not sure I'll have the time to get something in place before tomorrow.

H2G2 Tertiary is available for download from the BBC in Windows Media and Real Player formats with Dolby 5.1.

As of the time of writing, all 6 episodes are available. With the Premium version of RealPlayer you can create an MP3 CD with all 6 episodes.

It appears that the BBC site no longer has the full series.

If you missed an episode and want a copy either in RealAudio or MP3 see

http://dvf.homeip.net/h2g3/tertiary/
or
ftp://dvf.homeip.net/h2g3/tertiary/

Each episode of the curent series is about 26mb.

This site has the complete H2G2 series 1 thru 3 as MP3.

Any mirrors of this site out there? Everytime I go here I'm either told too many people are currently logged in or I get cut off before I can download a complete file.
