Ok, here's my impromptu review of T2.0:KA for GBA (ya got that? )
Chances are, you're going to love it, even with its flaws. And the main reason is right in its title.. more than twenty years since DoT, we get to imperson Tron himself! The voice acting from Bruce Boxleitner adds dramatically to the trip down memory lane.. all of his exchanges with Bit (his sideckick for this adventure), Mercury and Kernel will become classics. Expecially his exchange with Kernel.. when you'll hear it, you simply won't help pumping your fist in delight.
I'd really like, though, for someone to explain me why Tron wears a motorcycle helmet in the cutscenes. Or rather, I can fathom the reason, I just don't like it.
The game engine is sound, but far from perfect.. my main gripe here being the use of the camera. Turning around makes the camera scroll like crazy to keep your character on the edge of the screen. That struck me as insensate, until I realized the programmers went this way to make as much room as possible between your character and the enemies. Good idea, poor execution. You'll have to deal with a bit of motion sickness.
The overworld graphics really go a long way towards making you feel you're in the cyberspace. The sprites, on the other hand, suffer from lack of definition.
Now don't get me wrong. The gba has its limitations. Only, compare this game to an episode of the Megaman Battle Network series (a game that, if you own a GBA and worship Tron, you're likely to know): there, you get crisp, clean and detailed sprites. Sure, They look also cartoonlike, but I would prefer this kind of style instead of what looks like low-res renders of 3-d models. (because they are! )
Now you could get the idea I hate this game- far from it. I'm only pointing these things out because I can see that this game is a work of affection, lightyears better then your usual gba movie spinoff title. You can see it in the artwork, in the chip system, (wich is clever and adds a lot of replayability without indulging in the japanese "gotta catch em all" excesses), in the look and feel of the interface and the minigames.. we Tron junkies will love it. It's only a bit of a shame that, with a few tweaks, it could have been a true classic.

Just wanted to say yo and give some big phat props to DIGITAL ECLIPSE and the kick ass work they did on TRON 2.0 for the GBA.
What a blast it is. Can't... stop... playing... it...
If your into TRON or a RETROGAMER or just looking for an excuse to own a phenominal GBA TITLE, then this is the one.
I get such a kick out DIGITAL ECLIPSE's work for Nintendo's handhelds. They make those arcade kick ass ports of JOUST, SPY HUNTER and GHOST 'N GOBLINS for the GameBoy Color. Then they do the unthinkable and make a version of DRAGON'S LAIR for the GBC as well. Now we have TRON 2.0 with the original arcade games and tons of dfferent gaming modes. What a blast it is. It's kinda cool to finaly be able to cruise around in a RECOGNIZER and bust stuff up!
Great stuff!!!!

I am having the same problem. I have to demo it this weekend at a charity event in New York, and even though I have already played it extensively, I can't put it down.
You know how you see kids shopping in stores with their moms playing their GBA? I was one of those last night when my wife needed to run out to the store. I just followed her around the store with my GBA in hand.
I have found that my mastery of my arcade machines does not translate as well to the GBA versions of the classic arcade games. I am having to relearn the games.
Let's hear from more of you, what do you think of TRON 2.0: Killer App for the GBA?

I'm about 3 hours into the TRON game. One Ive completed his adventure then it's time to play as MERCURY.
The most addictive part is the SECURITY puzzle game, I love it. I
Been playing the emulated TRON and DISCS OF TRON arcade games on the go. In the car, at my folks, in the can, you know it's just great to play them on the go. I forgot how addictive DISCS OF TRON realy is.

Well, I had to try the GBA game. So after calling in some huge favors, a friend of mine let me play the game on his GBA. (I don't own a GBA.)
I didn't get to spend as much time with the game as I would've liked. I was already imposing a great deal on my friend. So I only got to play for a couple of hours, and didn't get that far. But from what I saw, here's what I think . . .
At first I didn't like it so much, but then it grew on me. The mini-games are perfect conversions of the arcade games, so points scored there.
The graphics are pretty good for the GBA. The sound is also good. The "camera" can be a bit annoying though. It jumps around a lot as you move.
The music is okay . . . at least better than what I know will be introduced in the Xbox version. This music is at least an attempt to remain Tron-like.
I find the game a bit juvenile in a way . . . the storyline and the constant hints are definitely aimed at younger gamers. I guess that was to be expected. The game itself is pretty fun. A little hard to control Tron in combat, but not too bad.
The game uses "chips" instead of build points . . . it's basically a simplified approach to the same idea. Building up your character's stats. These chips also unlock secrets/cheats later. There are also hacking puzzles in the game. The puzzles can be a bit tricky, but I don't mind. Hmm, I guess somebody at BVG was listening. (I made a whole list of suggestions last year, and I see some of them being implemented in the new games.)
There are a few things that I don't like though. Tron is wearing a helmet sometimes, like featured in the Xbox version. Ugh. And since when can Recognizers fire shots at you? Also, the implementation of the Tank combat isn't all that great. The GBA isn't the ideal platform for this kind of 3-D gameplay.
So, after playing it for a couple of hours . . . I would recommend buying this game. On the whole, it's well done and a worthwhile addition to the Tron franchise.
As for me, I won't buy a GBA just for this game. Sorry. As much as I love . If I already owned a GBA, then I would buy it. But I will buy the Xbox version.

Halfway through my third run-down of the game (or the fifth, if you count the Tron and Mercury missions separately) I finally got my digital paws on the Maximum upgrade chip, thus completing my collection. The game is pretty equilibrate in giving out its chips: you get about ninety in the first run-down, and then it makes you play agoin and again for the last few..
In my experience, the most elusive were: Maximum (quite a delusion, since I got Superior on the very first mission: lucky me ) Sniper Tank Module, Advanced Attack Recognizer and the way cool Combat Mastery Protocol ("enables high damage combat potential. Status: illegal" )
As cheats go, I admit I've made a pretty intensive use of the Mega Disc/Mega Rod- favoring the exploration and chip collecting over combat in the latter run-downs- and as soon as I got it (late second run-down), Infinite Access Keys. Because frankly, I was beginning to see little rotating exagons in my sleep.
Just for bragging, my present chip configuration is:
Isometric File System: Superior, Advanced Target Mastery, Combat Mastery Protocol, Advanced Energy Booster. Before the completion of the access keys cheat, Shadowware too.
Tank Grid: Advanced Combat Tank (and Sniper Tank Module for a change)
Recognizer Grid: Full Combat Recognizer
LightCycle Grid: Speed Boost (and on the more advenced grids Super Bike), XR Style, Gold, Trail Style Alpha.
So, what about your config?

Just completed the game! Took me about 8 hours to do. I got 92 outta 100 chips. It's worthcompleting as both characters now can configure TRON and MERCURY with some kick ass chip abilities. Time to do some serious damage now in replay mode just so I can find the missing 8 chips!
Multiplayer is a blast and hey, I can't complain about playing the TRON arcade games on the go. There hasn't been a day that I haven't fired this game up, it is very addictive! Heck it even looks and sounds better on the GBA Player for the GC. Nice to play the arcade games on the big screen!

I just bought the game and started it. I am VERY impressed with the game play and variety of different KINDS of levels, from the hacking of computer terminals, to light cycles, to Yar's Revenge type levels.... it's AMAZING how much they managed to cram into the memory chips of a hand-held cart.
It seems like a lot of thought and effort went into this game and I appreciate that being a fan of Tron. Even those who aren't fans of Tron will really enjoy the game play. It combines puzzle solving with arcade platform. Definitely a must have.

I'm posting this to let you know that down at GameFaqs there's a complete FAQ/Walkthrough by Da Hui, with some info provided by yours truly. You can find it here.
beside that, there's only one review of the game, and it's pretty unfair IMHO. So if someone could muster the time and will to write a less biased one, that would be appreciated.
