I was watching the supplemental material DVD last night and was watching the deleted material… I was just wondering what my fellow fans' opinions were. Do you feel that Tron is a better movie with or without these elements.
My personal opinion is that it is a better film without them... don't get me wrong: I really enjoy having the opportunity to watch them (especially the Love Scene), I just feel that what we are left with is a tighter, and much more cohesive film
The Love Scene: A great moment in the film – no doubt... It's beautifully animated, well matted (except for a few brief seconds around Yori as she show's off her new outfit), and more vibrant than many other aspects of the digital world (but then it was supposed to be to help emphasize the oppressive control the MCP had over the system). It's a cute moment, but introduces an odd sexual aspect to the programs (rather like Flynn kissing Yori... where did that come from?). And what do you get when two programs copulate... subroutines?
The odd sexuality aside I love this scene, but I'm very glad it was cut. It would have slowed down the pace of the movie, as it was introduced at a point in the action when we needed to continue moving forward... not stop for a breather.
The Morning After Scene: This could not have existed without the Love Scene. Had the Love Scene been included I feel that this should have definitely been included as well... but since the love scene was cut it makes incorporating this into the film a moot point.
The Light Cycle Race portion of Wendy Carlos' score: I'm very glad this was omitted. It is, IMO, one of the weakest moments in her score, and it would have taken away from the tension and drama of the race. Having only the sound and dialogue of the scene brings the audience into that moment, and helps emphasize the drama and excitement... The score pulled me out of the moment, and acted as a buffer between the action and myself.
Wendy Carlos' end credits score: As much as I usually hate the incorporation of pop/modern music in film scores I feel that the incorporation of Journey's "Only Solutions" was an excellent touch. I love Wendy's soft and simple closing over the time lapsed cityscape. The mirror between the digital and real world has an eerie element of history from within the elements of the movie, and an aspect of foreshadowing on the world in the movie and our own. The switch from the score to Journey helps pull the audience out of the digital world and back into the real world. Wendy's digitally infused score backed Flynn and Tron as the traversed the system from within, but when we saw a sweat-soaked Flynn for the first time it was under the blaring guitar of Journey inside a very real world arcade. The close of the film with "Only Solutions" helps bring us back to the moment.. back to 1982.
So what are your thoughts?

My wishes...
Love Scene: In
Morning After: In
Carlos' score during light cycles: Out
Journey's Song during credits (I thought it was called, "1990's Theme" or something like that): Out
Any other Journey song during closing credits?: Out
I love the morning after scene and wish there was audio. Isn't it audio-less? That makes me so sad. I absolutely love the peace of the scene overlooking the mesa's sunrise. And to have the morning after scene, you need the love scene. It does seem a little weird for programs to have feelings of 'love' or 'infatuation', but how much different is this from them to also feel pain (Clu) and other emotions we saw them experience. I would've bought it.
Any music playing during the light cycle match would've interfered with the moment. Of course, we're speaking from a vantage point of having seen the LC match the way it was done for the last 20 years. Any change there would be sin
I just don't think Journey's song(s) fit anywhere in the ending credits and wish it was left out. Most of the movie is Wendy Carlos stuff and it just doesn't "fit" for me to have that loud, 80s rock music be in the credits. I need Carlos 'bringing it home' for me.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

The "1990's Theme" is what's playing in the real world arcade sequence. "Only Solutions" is the song playing during the end credits andalso briefly in the Arcade as well.
I would like to see the love scene in the movie but modified to explain the situation better. I think it needed to say more and perhaps be slightly less sexy.
The subject of program procreation was raised in another note. I think the idea of love can happen in that world. Perhaps more as attraction due to similar functions. Perhaps two programs that have mutually needed function get together and create bits that grow to become programs?

The love scence should of defintely been out. So should the lightcycle music. The only good thing with the love scene is that when Tron and Yori go into that door, you know what happens, and you know it is Yori's house.

The Light Cycle scene is definitely better without the music, in my opinion. The visceral quality of the scene (which is what makes it great) is somehow lost when the music is added.
As for the Love Scene and the Morning After Scene... I'm up in the air on these. It would've been great if Disney had been able to find the sound for the Morning After Scene because then they could've added an "extended edition" option (a la the T2 DVD) that would've had both scenes reintegrated with the movie. That way, we could evaluate their overall impact on the movie.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Agreed, MM.
I'd have liked to see them with subtitles/captions. Doh.
Though, how exactly do programs interact romantically and create new programs... hm...
After all, we've got beta, alpha, and gold... *ponder* ...

I don't think programs procreate; rather, I think it may be a pleasurable sharing of power they are after when they're being romantic.
Remember when Flynn, Ram and Tron escaped the Tanks and found a pure source of power? Remember how when they drank it their circuits glowed, they got a little giddy and Tron commented that he had almost forgotten how good pure power felt? Well, maybe if two programs linked their circuits, so to speak, and shared each other's power, it might feel even more pleasurable. I just think something along that line is far more plausible than programs procreating.
Frankly, I'm happy that there are no little child programs running around in either the movie or the game. There is no need for them, and they don't make sense in the digital world. We saw at the beginning of Tron, when Tron was created all the pieces just fell into place -- perhaps he was being compiled -- and there he was. No childhood, no adolescence, he just was.
If you want to go into the question of Alpha, Beta and Gold, I think that a program's outward appearance stays the same unless there is a radical rewrite or upgrade (e.g. when Tron Legacy was added to Ma3a.) As a program goes from Alpha to Gold, I imagine it gets more confident in its abilities and does its job faster and more efficiently and uses less energy, but its appearance does not change.

DaveTRON - we're ALL nerds here, aren't we?
ettercap - - you had me laughing with that "...So Beta would be the equivalent of program adolescence?" dialogue bit! Very clever!

I agree with that all the way, MutoidMan - you nailed it. Programs portrayed as kids when first written is [1] a poor analogy (in the figurative sense of programs personified as digital people) and [2] well, the premise is very non-entertaining and would be a turn off in terms of what makes TRON really cool to me... or that's the best I can explain my feeling on that in short words.
Newly written programs might be a little child-like when at first, perhaps naive, not so efficient and don't quite know their way around the motherboard so well just yet, but they would indeed (in my opinion) be a lot like the finished program (adult in other words) in appearance and general behavior.
Interesting discussion going on here. TOTALLY nerdy (and that's NOT a bad thing), and very interesting! where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I thin it was okay that they had left it out when Tron came out in 82. And now 20 years later. I think they could have used it in there. Maybe put in some filler to explain it a little bit here and there when Tron and Yori are in her apartment there. Maybe make a director's cut with it in there. And a just plain regular one like the 20 anniversary. I remember another Movie that had the same thing as well It was Terminator 2 Where they had the Director cut they had Conner's mother in the looney bin. With some extra bits and pieces as well she was taking medication and all that.
But thats just my idea of it.

You said it TheReelTodd! "Non-entertaining" is exactly what kids would be in Tron, as they almost always have been in sci-fi (e.g. Wesley in ST:TNG and Dr. Zee in Galactica 1980.) Yeah, I agree with MutoidMan that the love scene shouldn't necessarily be "procreation". Sark once said, "Users wrote us... a user even wrote *you*" to the MCP. (Or something like that.) This more or less says users are required to create programs; programs don't make other programs.
I like MutoidMan's theory that maybe it's just 'pleasurable' for them; like the Pure Energy Source pool. They don't necessarily need to make love in the film... maybe just be close to each other. Feeling each other's presence and interest in each other.
I think it was a little strange how sexual Yori got. The dialogue/actions didn't really flow with the film -- it got kinda weird when she was drawing on his chest, downward. If it were to be incorporated into the film, I'd like a little less... I dunno... blunt?
Hey! Here's a thought. Maybe in one of the Tron-Sector Q&A sessions, we could ask Cindy or Bruce if they remember what they said during the audio-less 'morning after' scene, if anything. Or if they remember any more of the script around that area that was deleted. Think of it from the User's point of view: If programs start making more programs, suddenly they've got programs popping up on their hard disk with no real purpose to them being there. Mass deletions ensue.

Does anybody have access to a copy of the script? Even though the Love Scene and the Morning After Scene were edited out of the movie, the scenes were still shot, so the lines from those scenes should be in the script. Hrm... I suppose child-version of programs would be bothersome...
Though, how do you explain users who happen to be pre-teen/teenagers coding (which happens nowdays!) and their program counterparts? Shouldn't that refect the users themselves or are they just simply adult versions?
I know the programs do *age* as we've seen with Dumont MCP, and others.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

In my opinion, I think that the movie is better off without the love scene and morning after scene. actually I think that the way the movie is is great. I just think the Love scene and morning after scene don't fit the overall flow of that section of the film, and it would just make the audience a bit more confused... Light cycles is much better as is. I think it juust has more energy without the music. end credits- to be honest, I actually haven't watched all of the credits, so... no comment.
a program written by a teenager would probably reflect the way their user looks. and it would seem that programs do age at the same rate of humans (in human time) along with their users. although that would mean that programs age slower then users, when you think about the supposed 'time offset'. however, what about when a program is installed on a new computer, or uninstalled/installed? does the program reflect the age of the program's existence scnce written, or do they reflect their age scince installation? (which is not something we usually talk about- not all programs are written then put on a computer, they are installed, and sometimes uninstalled/installed repeatedly)abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

I agree. I liked the love scene for interest sake, but the dialog was very weak. Here's Tron, a couple of his friends just died (so he thinks) in order to help him get to the IO tower; and there's Yori--on another planet! Tron's not even phased as she transforms. And the moment where she draws the map downwards on his chest is just plain cheesy. Or maybe Tron is just REALLY dense.
