I didn't get any sifting time unfortunately. Busy busy busy.
I'll try and look tonight.
I am sort of in this mode of changing my life right now and it's making me very busy. Thankfully more TRON is part of the changes! DaveTRON

There are four artists that I would love to spend time with: Syd Mead, Ian Anderson (co-founder of The Designer's Republic), Salvidor Dali (...which is no longer possible), and Peter Max (I'm lucky enough to have a signed piece of his hanging in my study). I've been a graphic designer for 10 years, and even before I got my first gig I have looked to each for inspiration. My own work reflects more of an amalgamated inspiration of Peter Max and The Designer's Republic as opposed to the others, but that is largely based on the field of art that I found myself gravitating towards and embracing.
When Tron came out I was 12 years old, and as much as I love Syd Mead's work, his name meant nothing to me. ...I was 12. I was more concerned with playing Atari, riding my bike, and hanging out with my friends. It wasn't until I was 16 and saw ALIENS that I really began to admire him (it was also the film that brought my attention to Stan Winston and James Cameron...). At 16 I was beginning to find a direction for myself. I spent hours in the library pouring over the images created by Dali, Mead, and Max. ...I wouldn't discover TDR for another 6 years.
...Just To be able to spend some time with Syd Mead and find out what he's like, and to just get to know him as an individual would be a truly wonderful thing. ...I don't mean to put him on a pedestal, or anything - He's just a man with a skill, but his work has moved me, and because of that I admire him and what he does.

I JUST got in to the Multimedia program at college (Which is a miracle in itself considering how OVERSUBSCRIBED it is) and yet it seems everyone is having all sort of cool things happening to them out there. I wish I had a time machine so I can hurry up and be in the industry! ^^

I'm probably going to sound like your father, or something, by saying this: it sounds like everyone is having all of these cool things happen to them, but you know what: You are going to have some pretty cool things happen for you once you are out doing design as a full-time gig. I guarantee it. You're going to meet people, do things, work with some amazing teams, see your work displayed globally (...which is always an incredible rush! I never get tired of that one. ), make decisions that will have an impact on how people see something, etc. A lot of these things will seem small or even fleeting at the time they happen, but when you step back after a while and look back you'll realize, "I've done some pretty cool stuff, and met some pretty amazing people."
...Granted, there are also some really crappy moments ...Moments that you wish you could do without (there are a few that I'm sure I could've done with out ), but on a whole I would have to say that being an artist is a rather rewarding field. Both in the work, and who you get to work with.
The time will come, grasshopper. The time will come.

Funny as a kid I was in love with not just Tron but alot of Mead's design work. I remember hounding my dad to find me books based on his work and unfortunately at the time none were published. I did however get to know him through the movies. My dad was fond of pointing out that most of he movies we enjoyed were touched by Mead and his sense of futurism. I still love Meads work but today also enjoy alot of the work of other artists like James Clyne and Matsumne Shirow.
