Ok, if any one is interested I finally got my walkthrough on making Light Cycle maps with Dedit up.
you can find it at http://s3.invisionfree.com/DEDIT_Walkthrough/index.php
I tried to keep it easy to understand, and I hope it will help more people get into mapping. Don't you wish your corruption was hot like me? |

Great job on the tutorial, Darksaber7! I haven't read it fully, but I've read enough of it to know it'd be very helpful for the curious ones out there.
I dabbled a bit in DEdit a while back to try and create my own single-player Tron 2.0 level and learned quite a bit (the tool's not for the easily frustrated).
It was quite rewarding to build a room of your own and to be able to test it by walking around in it and stuff. I reached a point, unfortunately, where I lost patience. I had a glass textured floor with a circuit board floor about 12" underneath it -- and I was running into a problem where AI characters (and myself - Jet) would fall right through both and land on the world box surrounding everything (e.g., when testing the room, if you looked up to your zenith, my room was way up there off in the distance). I detached sides from boxes to give different textures to the walls vs. the floor and ceiling, but re-assembled everything ('CTRL+J' if I remember correctly); so I couldn't figure out what was going on.
Another issue was when I set an AI unit on a back & forth patrol, he'd start the patrol an inch or two about my glass floor, then as he paced he kept slowly getting lower and lower (actually walking in the floor texture as if the floor was water)... ankle deep... knee deep... waist deep... etc. Very odd. Everything seemed to be level and lined up in DEdit, so again... I have no clue what was going on.
I plan to try DEdit again -- maybe I'll try to create a Light Cycle or Multi-Player level. I can create very simplistic rooms and have them work okay, but I like detail. I want to try to create some cool levels. (I should do it before everyone loses interest in the game, eh?)
I must admit I got a bit discouraged when I saw an actual Tron 2.0 game level in DEdit. Good grief!! Those levels are huge and detailed and must've taken forever to build!!
Well, hopefully an expansion pack is being worked on by BVI to revitalize the energy in this game. I'd love to have more single-player levels to play.
If the mod community were more active with this game, I'd also be more interested in creating new levels. As it is now, I wonder who would even play a level if I built one. And, unfortunately, I'm on 56K dialup, so I haven't gotten into the Multi-Player aspect of this game much. In fact, I tried to play an MP game the other day, but nobody was there to join
I'm not very far off from knowing enough about DEdit to be able to create some cool things, but it definitely isn't the easiest thing to learn and work with. Tutorials like yours would've been a great thing to have in January when I was trying to learn DEdit.
EDIT: I know there were maybe some other DEdit tutorials out there back in January, but I think I was familiar enough with what was being said that it wasn't really anything new. I had already somewhat deciphered the tutorial that came with DEdit by the time mod community tutorials started being introduced. Besides, it seems like most were working on MP and Light Cycle levels; I was more wanting to create a single-player level.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pillabortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

My own attempts at single player levels have been rather dismal. Too much I don't understand yet.
Multi-player LC are the easiest maps to dive into. As you get more familiar with the ins and outs, you can get some amazing maps (just look at the most recent maps from the regulars!).
I'm figuring out "sky-boxes" right now. As soon as I can get some consistant results, I'll be adding it to the walkthrough...abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Yes! Skyboxes were the bane of my existence! No matter what it seems I did, the sky would just look like... well... a big box!where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Well Traahn, the only way I've had them work so far is to follow the tutorial that comes with the tools + a few additions. If you look in your "prefabs" folders there are two "skybox" prefabs. After you do everything the tutorial says, add one of these and then attach it to your "DemoSkyWorldModel" along with the other stuff. This should give you a working sky.
Of course, you only have two skies to pick from this way, but it beats having to leave your level in a big box...

Oh cool, that's good to know. Thanks again DarkSaber! It seems I tried an MP map created by Xsistence once -- "Trigonal" is what the map was called, I think. He did a great job on that map; and I noticed he had figured out the sky. Do you know if he used one of the two existing skyboxes in the PreFab folder for that? Or does it look like he figured out a way to use other textures?
EDIT: Same for me, TheTweaker. I ended up just hosting my own MP level and walked around the environments until the server booted me because no games were starting.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

From browsing through the pics on TronFaqs site, it looks like a bunch of the Disc / Derezz mappers have indeed figured out the sky boxes. Only a few of the maps use the prefab one that comes with the tools.
I'll work on it some more this weekend. Didn't get much time today, took 16 hrs. + to process the map I'm working on.... Don't you wish your corruption was hot like me? |

Awesome! What's up with the appearance of this thread, I wonder.
This text, not appearing as being said by someone, may be the culprit?

I just created my first light cycle map! Thanks a lot for the tutorial, DarkSaber! I went through the "Basics" thread.
The instructions were very clear. The only part I think I got hung up on was the very end: "Create a Rez file (see rez post) and run the map from within the game."
Maybe link to the "Finishing Up" thread here, to help clarify where users should go?
Also, I was a bit confused for a sec on this part, in the Finishing Up thread: "Once your Dat file is in there, go to "file" and click "save as". You can name this rez file what ever you want." With all the other steps that we're needing to keep track of regarding the .dat file, I was wondering where "rez file" was all the sudden coming into the picture. Suggested rewording (bold text = additions):
"Once your Dat file is in there, go to "file" and click "save as" to save the file as a .REZ file. You can name this rez file what ever you want, but be sure to save the file in your "Resources" folder (see below for more info) if you plan to test your level." |
In general, the tutorial was easy for me to follow. It's hard to say how much I'd understand if I was totally new to DEdit. I think it certainly helped me that I had an understanding of DEdit and navigating through it with my trial mods back in January, but I think newbies would be okay.
Thanks again! I'll try to see what sort of light cycle creations I can make on my own now.

*Yeah, everything in this thread seems to be slipping to the left!*
Thanks for the advice, Traahn. I went in and made some changes. It seems to clear it up a little. It's hard to remember that some people won't understand the basics we take for granted after a little work with Dedit. I'm not really the best at writting or clearly expressing my thoughts either, so I really appreciate any advice people can offer.
I hope putting a link to TronFaqs site will direct new users to visit it first. It should give them a good foot in the door and basic understanding.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Ok, I did some updating. I added a couple of "set up" type posts to help anyone having problems getting Dedit to run / process.
Soon I will be adding a section on how to get the prefabs to show up, and a credit section listing people who have helped me figure this stuff out along the way.
As always, feel free to offer advice and corections on anything I have posted.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill onlineabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Awesome! I'm looking thru the updates now. I'm having some difficulties getting the PREFABS to show, but we'll see if I can figure it out.
EDIT: Okay, got it figured out. I guess I maybe customized the folder name when I installed all this stuff way back when. I need to put the "DirTypePrefabs" file in the following folder and all its subfolders, rather than the one you specified in your tutorial:
C:\Program Files\Buena Vista Interactive\Tron 2.0\game\WORLDS\SampleMaps-Extracted\PREFABS
I think the key to help people may be to say the folder you need to copy the "DirTypePrefabs" file into ]has the following 5 folders in it *only*: "GLOBAL", "M01", "M02", "M05" and "MULTIPLAYER". (Of course, install the file into all these folders and sub-folders.)abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion
