On Screen Boo Boos

on Monday, June, 07, 2004 1:53 AM
Here is something I don't recall discussing here. On screen errors noticed in TRON.

Obviously, things happen during production and they sometimes have to be lived with.

What have any of us noticed?

I will start with one I saw this afternoon.

In the 35mm print I saw at the Dean Mitzner presentation I noticed very clearly in the bottom of the frame during the sequence where Flynn first sees Lora and Alan at the arcade, a microphone popping in and out of the scene.

I came home and whipped out the DVD to see if I could catch it there, but no luck. I think in one frame I can barely see the top, but in the 35mm print it was plain to see what it was.

Anyone else notcie anything like this?order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I have TRON on both DVD and VHS. You can only see the boom mic on hte video and not on the DVD.

It's clearly visible on the original letterboxed DVD but they zoomed in slightly for that scene on the 20th anniversary DVD.

Remember the guy hiding in the computer you that you see as the camera pans past? That's been talked about before I know. However that's not all you see in that scene that shouldn't be there. You also get to see the whole film crew in one of the reflective surfaces. As the camera pans across the scene the reflection pans across the film crew.

The only one I can think of is Flynn's hand hitting some kind of equipment in the scene where he's talking to Alan and Lora on the ground floor of the arcade... but that's it. @_@abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

A subtle but noticable error is right after de-rezzes Sark's assistant and jumps down to the ground. When he jumps down, if you look at the floor you can see a shadow of the boom mic and probably the camera as well.

In the scene where Tron and Yori are stealing the Solar Sailer, the shot where Tron pushes Flynn and the guard off the edge of the bridge you can see the guard actually get cut out of the frame. As he alls you can see his upper body disapear and just his legs all out o the bottom o the rame. It's really odd.
My personal theory is that the original shot, before any compositing or anything, the actors where to the far right of the Frame and so the red guard actor actually fell out of the camera's view. Then, when they put the final shot together they had to shift it left for some reason, leaving a missing piece of a person.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I don't remember the movie very well because it's been five years since I last saw it but I do know I saw some fishy things in the game.

For starters, when you hit a ICP with the disk, it almost appears that he/she/it seems to be walking backwards and tripping over an invisable box. What is supposed to happen when someone gets hit with an object (Especially in one's midsection) they generally FOLD OVER the object instead. The only thing that makes it look like those ICPs are really getting hurt out there is the sounds they make. If you trun the sound off, it losses impact. (If you don't understand what I'm talking about, see here for details in the "Fight" tutorial: www.polykarbon.com )
Apparently, they didn't study for this animation for the game very much.

And that, my friends, is a lesson in psuedo-physics. ^^;;

(1) In the arcade somewhere, the cameraman gets bumped by someone (or something) and the whole camera shakes. I think it's when they show Flynn, Alan and Yori starting to go upstairs. (This may be related to ones y'all have already described?)

(2) In a scene where Flynn, Alan and Yori are in a darkly lit area inside Encom describing their plan, Yori's standing in the middle, between the guys, and she's listening to Flynn and Alan talk. At one point, I believe toward the end of the conversation/scene, her eyes kind've space out and she blankly stares at, past or between (or all three; I can't remember) either Flynn or Alan. I think she even tilts her head a little and then her eyes, I'm pretty sure, glance at something off the set just as they're about to leave that scene. I'm sorry I don't have exact details, but if you watch it, you'll notice something weird going on there. It doesn't look natural. I hope Cindy doesn't hate me for posting this

Ok, probably only I would know this (aside from the people who originally assembled the scene) because I was re-editing some light cycle footage to music last fall, but there was a CGI goof that stood uncorrected in the light cycle scene.

It took place when Flynn was going through the maze - in just a single frame, it looks like the red and green colors were not alligned properly during Flynn's POV part, and it looks kind of like an old 3D film frame. But it's really not even detectable when watching at a full 24 fps.

But it's there.

That's probably the only goof I can think of that has not already been pointed out somewhere else before.

Ok - I went ahead and located the frame - still had it on my HD.

Behold:

If you'd like to see this frame yourself in the film, pop in your TRON 20th anniversary DVD, and start watching in frame by frame mode just after Flynn's close up as he's turning back and forth in the jet trail maze, and just a dozen frames or so after it changes back to his POV the frame is there.

Just before the lightcycle scene when tron, flynn and ram are grabbing the bar to activate the lightcycle, you can see on the one on the right I think, but not sure, a chunk taken out of their leg. In the shape of that section of the lightcycle. It happens about 2-5 frames before the lightcycle appers. You may have to use slow motion or frame by frame advance.

I was going to mention this goof too. Its the crossbar they used to bring up the qlowing handlebars. They painted it black so it wouldn't show but it gets between the camera and the backlight warriors' costumes as they bend over to morph into the lightcycles, thus leaving a "blank" spot like something cut in the scene.

Someone also mentioned a mike partially visible in the arcade during a scene. That was probably a framing error, and the mike either slipped a litte into the action frame or the film was not blocked off during projection properly. I remember when I saw The Ring in theaters there was a rash of projectionists not paying attention to the framing, so they were not correctly setting the screen mattes to hide the microphones which are out of the central focus of the shot but still visilbe on the extreme edges of the film.

THe one that stuck out in my mind whe it came to boo boos on tron. When Tron is fighting against four other programs at the same time. It came down when he was derezzing some of them. For a split second when you see Tron throwing his disk and you see the one one drez at the same time. Looks like Tron himself was slowed down by a comple of frams there. to show that he had thrown the disk at his oppenent there. That was one that stiuck in my head when I was looking at it.

Yeah, I remember that to, but I didn't know if that was a mistake or if they did that diliberately just to show what you were describing.

One thing that I am kinda hazy on is when I originally saw the movie in theaters, I could have sworn they showed Tron catching his disk behind his back. For years when I watched it on video they never showed that, but I could have sworn they showed a little bit of him catching it behind his back during one of the duels on the 20th Anniversary DVD.

Well I guess it all depends on howyou look at it. I did some cinematograph when I was in college a few yewars back. If I would have done something like that on one of my films. It would have been considered a boo bioo.

After Flynn and Crom go head-to-head in the ring-game challenge, and Flynn's being escorted down the walkway by guards to the door, the lights in the room begin to turn off/go away. The ramp that Flynn and the guards are walking on is the last thing to disappear.

The boo-boo? It looks as if the ramp would completely disappear out from under their feet if the scene didn't end where it did. If the scene had lasted a few seconds longer, where we could see the ramp disappear 100%, we might be treated to Flynn and the guards falling to their death, like poor little Crom.

It's just a timing issue, but one that I, unfortunately, see every time I watch that scene. Now you all will, too! Muhahahahaa!!
