[well harpo, you asked for it, and here it is!]
[Comment:] I just thought this might be a good time to tell the story of my exile...
meanwhile,on a computer screen in a dark office somewhere in england 1987...

and 2 years later[when the application form has finally been answered] in the digital world...
*a waiting room of some sort there are 19 ICP regulars sitting on benches. idley performing tricks with their discs. suddenly another ICP rezzes in, looks around then sits on the benches*
PA-system: Prankster bit.exe, the Kernel will see you now.
*one of the ICPs stands up and walks through a data stream at the end of the room. he rezzes in again, but this time in front of the Kernel*
Kernel: Prankster bit.exe, you have requested to join the ICP squad. first question, what it your creation date?
Prankster: 1987, well i, personally are from 1987, but mu alphas and betas ranged all through the 1980s
Kernel:that date does not exist. tell the truth!
Prankster: it is the truth, I was backed up just before my user's hard drive crashed, so he used a system restore, and here i am.
Kernel: hmm, okay. second question. what were you created to do?
Prankster: i am an anti-virus program, i have been patched and kept up to date all through mty betas.
Kernel: excellent! i need an anti-virus program. okay, last question. can you justify reasons for your request?
Prankster: well i have had extensive training using weak versions of actual viruses, getting more pure as by abilities increase. now i have been told that I am the best anti-virus program in existance.
Kernel: excellent! you're on the team!

*a further 5 years later, while battling a new virus, Prankster finds a small sub-program under some rubble [god, it was like a war zone out there]*
Prankster:[over i/o channel] Kernel, i've found a survivor, sir. what shall I do?
Kernel: we can't take any risks, she could be infected. Derezz her.
Prankster: no...i can't.... she hasn't done anything...i can't derezz an innocent sub-program!
Kernel:we cannot take risks!
Prankster:NO!...I WON'T DO IT!
*prankster picks up the sub-program, slings her over his shoulder and runs away from the scene*
*the next day, in the Kernel's office, the Kernel is pacing back and forth, shouting at Prankster.*
Kernel: what the hell were you thinking?now that that sub-program had survived she could infect a whole system with that virus!
Prankster: well, sir, i find it very immoral to derezz innocent programs. especially sub-programs, sir.
kernel: well i have no choice but to dishonourably discharge you. you are to be stripped of your rank, your weapons and your subroutines. DISMISSED!
* so then Prankster was living for no purpose. then, one day in a bar, he hears a news bulletin*
News reporter: it has just come to me that the ICP Kernel has willingly derezzed a sub-program. he is to serve a 2 year sentence in the prisoner bin then return to duty.*

Can one really arrest the kernel? it would be like arresting the commander-in-chief... wouldn't it?

yeh, human
and the kernel CAN be arrested. it was those gigabytes.
besides hes sentence was severely shortened because he is a superior program [i hate the bastard now]
if he was a regular program, he would've served a 20 year sentence
anyway, back to this epic,
so that was it, exiled for doing the right thing. every time i see a Jpeg of the kernel it makes me want to spit at it. and every time a sub-program dashes past me in the internet city, a tear of energy wells in my eye.
over the next few months, i managed to get a few jobs as security guards and whatnot. but boredom quickly kicked in. it was then that i decided to become a hitman.
i downloaded sniping code and I practised every day with a byte out on the hard plains and a LOL leant to me by a friend. I was ready for my first target...

i was just coming to that...
anyway, my first target, was the kernel's own sub-program. i thought this would pay him back for the innocent sub-program he derezzed.
i was right.
after his sub-program derezzed, he went into hiding for 6 months. and i went back to upgrading my skills.
it turns out the kernelknew my plan, because he sent out recognizer interceptors to find me.
staying here was no longer safe for me. so i ran away.
17 packet transports later, i arrived at the hub of a lovely caring community that had loads of nice people to talk to, arenas to have friendly derezz competitions. and a brilliant view of the Mesa!  . i realised that the Kernel wouldn't find me here. i was safe for now. i look up at signs on buildings in the hub. " THE POWER BAR", " Kia Purity's petting zoo" and " THE MOST EXTREME DISC COMPETITION"
yes, this fun-loving community i had ended up in was
