When did you first get into Tron?

on Sunday, May, 09, 2004 6:28 PM
My first experience with TRON would have been the film's release in theatres. Sadly I didn't get to see it in theatres but whenever I saw ads or promos about it on television, I was hooked. When it finaly hit video I was blown away and for ages all I had was a crappy television taped VHS copy. I'd run to the arcade and play the game like mad. Man that still is awsome! After that it was pretty quiet. I had all but forgot about it.

I picked up a brand new VHS copy in the early 90's when it was finaly available for purchase. I watched it again and was blown away once more, the world, the action and characters just kicks ass.

One of the best moments was getting Disney's Tron Laserdisc Archive set in December 1995. Disney schooled other studios when it came to extras on laserdiscs and that Tron set was phenominal. To learn about the creation of the film and the pain they went through, that's inspiring stuff. It was such a huge influence in my life from that point on that I began to learn to do my own films and CGI animation.

I did get to see the film once in theatres. A threatre in town used to screen older flicks and once they brought in a double bill of TRON and BATMAN. That evening ruled.

Today, TRON hits the DVD player on a regular basis and TRON 2.0 gets booted up on the PC non-stop. I hope with the arrvial of the X-Box and GBA versions will spark more and more interest and get Lisberger a go for the sequel. I sure would love to visit that world again on the big screen.

Welcome to TRON-Sector

I got hooked in the summer of '82. I was an 11-year old who has seen "Computers Are People Too" on TV months earlier, and couldn't WAIT to see this partly computer animated film they spoke of.

Yep - I was absolutely blown away myself when I saw it! The visuals were just spectacular and concept of being digitized in to the computer really intrigued me. I watched the film with a HUGE grin... while my grandfather fell asleep (grandparents took me and younger brother to the film). I thought the film was pure fun and excitement! I couldn't understand why it did not draw in audiences as Star Wars had - I really didn't get why people didn't ALL love the film. I guess most people at the time didn't quite understand the film

I just recently (last week) purchased TRON 2.0 - LOVING IT... in fact ADDICTED TO IT! It's a GREAT continuation of the film! There's nothing more exciting that working my way around in "the digital world of TRON" trying to save the world from evil clutches of fCon!

I saw TRON in the theatre in the summer of '82. I was about to turn 18 and my life was changing. Shortly after I saw the movie I ran into the arcade game. Being an arcade rat, I spent every spare quarter I had on that machine. I mastered it. Never did what some of the champs do, but I could play farther and better than anyone I knew.

Little did I know that TRON was shaping my whole life. I ended up working in video games because of the love for games the arcade machine brought to my life.

My love of the film made me want to create a game based on the movie and I got my chance to work on TRON 2.0 when I returned to Disney Interactive in 1999. I was part of that team.

Through that game I met Steven Lisberger, Richard Taylor, Syd Mead, Harrison Ellenshaw and Cindy Morgan. All people I now count as friends. Steven especially. He's a very good friend to me, and we have worked together to create an amazing digital archive of materials relating to TRON with help from everyone noted above.

I have also made a lot of really good frieinds here on TRON Sector. Auric, TRONProgram, Sketch and many others. We have quite a solid community here. I look forward to the time I spend with them.

Now I am looking forward to being a part of whatever comes next for TRON. I hope if a movie does happen there is a role I can serve in to make it great. Coffee Boy? Assistant to the Assistant? Script Runner? Something.

Say what you will about TRON, but it changed my life and continues to do so daily. I would not be who I am without it.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Well I never saw it in theaters. ( I still haven't seen it on the big screen *cries*) Twas before my time. Long long ago in a podunk town far far away when I was but a wee lad, an ad ran on tv for the Sunday afternoon feature film. The ad showed a really cool looking movie with super cool motorcycles called... you guessed it... . I got a tape out and started recording since I had to run somewhere with my dad. When I got back I watched the film and loved it... one problem though... the tape stopped right as Sark and the older programs were walking toward the MCP tower. This drove me nuts. I wanted to know how it ended. I went to every movie rental store to see if they had the film. No one had it. Fast forward a few years to the video section in Kmart one day. There I ran into and bought the Tron VHS! Finally I was able to enjoy the whole movie commercial free and see the ending. That's what started it. From then on the Tron fix just snowballed.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I remember seeing Tron on the big screen when I was a lad over here. I was 13 at the time when I had seen the movie. And got me starting to think about computers. And once computers had started to come into the local high school. I started to get into being a technician. Or learning how computers worked and all that and learning how they worked and learnt how to repair them at the same time in high school once that got started. Both friends, people that I knew from outside the school had started to ask me to help them and learn about computers. That’s where I got a lot of real time experience with it.

Tron has gotten me into learning more and more about computers. That’s why in more recent years I had gone back to get my degree’s as a computer programmer and learns more about networking with Cisco networks. Tron for me has been an inspiration for getting into computers and all that. Even though I didn’t meet up with the cast and crew of the movie Tron. (Still one of my dreams to work on eventually.) To meet up with them at Sci-fi or other situation I still have the video of Tron, As well as the 20th anniversary and the soundtrack of Tron that I listen to on occasion over here from time to time.

I remember back in 82 standing outside holding my mothers hand looking up at the neon Tron sign... I was cold and wet, as I was staring up at the sign the rain was rolling down my face. Not even the rain could take away from the visual pleasure that I was soon to experience. It was playing in The Globe Theater downtown. I remember it like it was yesterday. The old brown leather seats and shiny metal cup holders, the smell of popcorn and the taste of a cool coke. The lights go dim, I look up at the screen with the sense of anticipation. I was hooked right from the opening credits, the visuals, the sound, the story, all of this was new and exciting to me. I left the theater that night with a sense of future sight, a vision if you will, a vision of what I wanted to be when I grew up, a filmmaker, a storyteller, an entertainer. 20 plus years later I am on that path, the path that will reach my goal that I saw in my dream that night in 82. I am a filmmaker, I am an entertainer, I will be what I set out to be.

Look out world.

I am coming.

[i just turned 15 on may 6th] so it must be good for you guys to see how tron has affected this generation.

I first saw tron when I was four [in 1993] all I can remember was thinking 'they have funny frisbees' and I dismissed the film as not very important [i didn't know what I was doing at the time. I am so sorry! ] It wasn't untill I was 10 that I dug out an old home-recorded tape labeled "tron". I thought "tron? what the hell is tron?" so I stuck the tape in the machine and my life has never been the same since!

now that I was old enough to enjoy it, I thought it was the greatest movie I had ever seen. I was right.

now I am 15, and I now own tron 2.0, when I got it, I spent the rest of the day playing it, no, really, the whole day. 23 hours of gameplay [I used the 24th hour to go and get the game] and now my computer has never been the same again

my god I love Tron!!!

quite the contrary! *points at self*

when I was very young, probably 4-6 range, I rented this odd movie from the video store called "Tron". I was captured by the cool loking charachters and the idea of being in a computer (something I always thought would be cool) and, even though I couldn't understand the plot, I continued to rent it. after several times my family got sick of me watching this one movie all the time, so they made me stop getting it. (I was getting sick of it anyway)

ok, fast-forward to 2003. I was looking through the video store, and found this old VHS of 'Tron'. I remembered faintly that I saw the movie and watched it again. now that I was a lot older I understood the plot and amazing effects. after that, I found the 20th anniversary edition on Netflix, and discovered about Tron 2.0.

well, I was pretty far in the game, (fCon) and was looking for info on one of the levels. through google I found Redrain's site, and from there I linked to Tron-sector.

you know the rest.

I'm probably one of the few who is the same age as the movie. :P

I was born on July 6, 1982. Tron came out three days later in theatres... so there went my chances of seeing it!

I did not get to see Tron until 1992... I was 10 years old then. Loved the movie.

2002-ish, I got Tron 20th anniversary dvd as a present.

I own Tron 2.0 figures, Tron figures, and all three lightcycles as well as the game and several items. :] I'll never be a hardcore collector like DaveTron and TronProgram. XP I'm still happy with what I have, though.

I never got to see TRON in the theater when it was released even though I really wanted to; my parents just didn't think it looked like much.

About a year later my school showed it in the auditorium. The audio system at my school was way too old, and I must've been the only kid captivated by the visuals, because I was the only one paying attention and not screaming like a crazed chimpanzee. But I didn't care; TRON captured my imagination anyway. It helped that a friend of mine who had seen the film at the theater filled me in on plot points I couldn't make out. He also had the TRON figures and light cycles which we had many an adventure with, and the movie storybook with the full-color photos which I read a few times.

The first time I saw TRON after that was when I got my hands on the original DVD only a few years ago. I've seen it many times since then, especially the 20th Anniversary DVD set.

Speaking of the 20th Anniversary DVD set, I had been visiting Wendy Carlos' website for a long time waiting for word of the release of the soundtrack on CD, and was greatly surprized to find out that the release of the soundtrack on CD coincided with the release of the 20th Anniversary DVD set.

I had also visited The Tron Home Page and Auric's Sector many times before the 20th Anniversary DVD set was announced because they were great sources of TRON media.

Now, after TRON 2.0 has expanded the world of TRON, I eagerly await an expansion pack and/or a sequel.

More TRON please!

My brother took me to the movie when I was 12. I remeber coming home with the very clear idea of "I now know what I want to do with my life" (thinking in terms of career path.) Computer animation was a goal from then on.

It wasn't till after college that I realised I wanted to be a character animator - I still had the same goal, but now it was being focused. Looking back at that night in '82, I remeber marveling at the tanks and the light cycles and the recos, but it was the bit that was especially intriguing to me, and was probably the first computer character animation I'd seen.

I've been fortunate enough to be working as a computer character animator for the past 10 years now! I thank God for that. And thank you Steven Lisberger!

Perhaps there is hope for future generations!

I was 14 when TRON came out in 82. I was already a Disney freak b4 and couldn't wait for it to come out. I bought the soundtrack and the story when they first came out on LP (That's Long Playing record for the young'ns). I saw it at a local theater with a group of friends. There was a long line for ET, but we walked right in to TRON. I remember seeing an interview with Steven, Jeff, and Bruce on the TODAY show when it premiered. I wish I could see that again.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Well, I think it all started with a preview I saw in theaters for it. Can't remember which movie I saw the trailer for Tron in but I remember being captivated by it to the point I stopped and gawked at anything remotely mentioning TRON. Even an issue of JET magazine had a small blurb on TRON as one of the "summer blockbusters" to watch for back then. And then I saw some of the "computer graphics" specials like "Computers are People Too." and then finally the opening day arrived and I saw it with my father. I think I was almost 12 then and I remember having to explain alot of the story to my dad who eventulally got so caught up in the movie he told me to forget talking and just watch. From there the obession flourished.....as it should have on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online
