MM, you should get tronlink at http://www.tronlink.net
You can check servers and you can chat with other online people in the TRON community.

It's been a while since I've been on the game grid, but I had a little time last night, so I went out there and found TraiLCutter!
I was horribly out of practice, but it was great to find an old friend out there.
Before meeting up with him, I ended up no Jademz server (I think it was his). There were a bunch of automated messages saying that the game grid is not dead (or something like that) and peak times when more people are likely to be out there posted. How cool was that?!
I'm glad people are still hitting the game grid. I just wish it would happen more when my window of opportunity was open.

Hi TheReelTodd!
Thanks for dropping by the grid! I believe the ones you found are controlled by the MCP! So be carefull!
MCP is a program developed by Daddyo, to manage Tron 2.0 servers.
MCP does alot of things, what you saw was an automatic message system that posts stats for the best times for a match on the server, most recent posts on Boxhat, and whatever I type in there like, "ping low and prespire".
But that's just what the client sees, it restarts servers, and I use it for multiple instances. There's alot of work being done to it by dev's, you can download it and check it out at http://www.tronlink.net
Mr. Anderson and I just recently added Leet servers, thanks to help from Mr. Anderson, whom guided Leet in the install, infos, and set it up, Now there's a 7 player LC server, hosted by Mr. Anderson, and a 15 player DA/DM server hosted by me.
I'm sure I've posted this a few times around here, hehe. sorry, it's cool stuff!

Thats cool Jademz. SOunds very interesting on that. Is it strictly a windows based application? Because I am going to be coming into getting to servers soon over here. And I am thinking of doing that. But it would have been on a linux based OS. Since my other machines are just too slow. And the machines that I am getting are at least dual processors.over here. Or I just might convert one with a windows and one as a linux one.

Yeah, it's made for windows. Anderson tried it on WINE, and said it didn't work, however, the Tron 2.0 server does work.

If any of you would like to use Tronlink, or need help configuring the launch, let someone know, there are atleast 90 rants that were digitally mastered by 9VChiken, and there are more coming. All chars.
I need to let those who join the teamspeak server know, you will need to re-register!
I deleted 3 partitions worth of windows and other apps that decided to make a home on another partition.. which was a odd phenomenon that happens on windows. lol
So please use this link and re-register. Here |

Yeah the two servers that I am getting from work are a Compaq Priliant and a eserver.
The compaq has this configuration on it.
Dual 800MHZ PIII Intel CPU
1.5 gigs of ram
Raid 5 with 4 18.2 gigs SCSI 3 hard drive
cdrom and floppy.
IBM E server 8669 4RX
Single PIII 1.266GHZ processor
floppy
CDROM
Raid 5 4 18.2 SCSI 3 ultra
redundant power suppler supply 2 power supplies in total.
256 megs of RAM
The only problem with these two machines they do not have AGP connections on them. The proliant has 2 PCI standard ports while the 4 others are 64 bit running at either 33 or 66/
And the eserver has a single ci and 4 in total 2 PCI 64 33MHZ and 2 64 66 MHZ PCI I think these are hot swappable connections on them. Plust each of them have 1 10/100 and a gigabit in each as well. So there is enough power for a typical end user stuff. And no sound card in either of them.

I have done some cross platform programming here and there a while ago in the early 90's when I was learning turbo pascal at home and regular pascal on a VAX VMS. Using the pascal syntax as its base for both so very little was lost when working from one to another with the exception of certain modules not being there. I am thinking if it would be plausile to try and do it in Linux as well? With your permission of course too I wouldn't want to step on any toes on a good project like that.

There are a few individuals capable of giving better explinations of why WINE doesn't make calls to certain applications, I'm not efficient at either pascal, WINE or linux language. This does sound very interesting, since the problem is porting the language to make an application work. But the language for lithtech's tron server, will need source. For instance, I dont know how MFC works dynamically with the source to Tron 2.0, and windows, or what could be used in a port to linux. So, I'm a mess. lol
My best answer is to try using any source you need.
There's noone I know of porting these apps. Also, Tronlink/MCP is 95% opensource already, the projects using source on the dev. side is nothing I have to do with, but I ask alot of questions, and noone has been forthcoming to me on this project.
Best of luck Compucore!

Well for games wine does work well on certain one. And not so good for others. It's a finky program to work with under linux. I haven't used it honestly. because I do have at least one or two machines that are still windows. So I don't have to worrk about that too much. Wine is just another emulator to mimic windows on a linux machine. Like Mame, and some others for both the windows and linux boxes that have the emulators out there.
Well what programming language did the MCP program that you and your friend had made it in. If it is in Visual Studio which I have already worked with over here. ANd some DOS compilers like Turbo Pascal, Borland C++ 3.1. Not extensively but enough. The more important question if we did have the source code for TRON 2.0 where it could have been used to port over to a system like linux. Well Linux has gotten better. It is just a matter trying it and start learning it. I have tried using linux over the year. In the beginning I thought it was kind of blah. But now whe I look at linux and compared to what it was in the early 90's, and to the last year or so. It has vastly improve. Just my personal opinion about it since I am writing right now that is on linux box.

Hey compucore, nice to meet. You can take a look at the server manager at www.tronlink.net. It was slightly thrown together using visual basic 6.0 & tiny bit of C.
It came together to help my own servers run more hands free & give helpful info & AI chat to those sitting in-game, as well as map voting. Mr. Anderson has been adding stuff to it these days, such as adding a remote manager.
It uses alot of low level windows API to do what it does to the server. I don't know how that would port to linux. I can get you the source I have currently if you're interested, but i'd bet you'd rewrite it!
If possible how about PMing me on boxhat.com for more info (so I dont go on a tangent on this thread!).

Ok, I have to correct myself on the open source comment, the source isn't available to the public. But Daddyo has no problems with giving the source to you.
MCP is written in C and VB6.
I agree, I've heard about linux alot lately. I want to get a box up soon, I'm saving up for a rack server to get a professional host here, so everyone gets a even better ping.

Let Daddyo know I'll pass by as soon as I can to get that arange with him. It would be an interesting concept of using linux with it as a MCP equivilant to it under the linux OS itself. I don't know why some companies. (Can't put all of them in the same basket here.) don't try and add a version for linux as well. There are a few game companies that do do that as well sort of a side line with the other wo main OS's that they want to sell the game under. Even if it means you buy the game for windows. But use linux instead. And just copy the data files you need over for it over to the directory you know.
Well let me give you a litle jump ere in general and no to pressure you either. Take a look at the following link here. Its to their servers themselves from IBM some of them are cheap cheap as in $70 gets you a server without the drives. And you just need to find out which size of drives you want to put in for it. And pop in the OS for it and boom voila server at home. Here is the link
http://www.itxchange.com/itxchange/find.asp?&find_specialStat=1&find_specialCat=1&search=specials
Its called ITxchange they deal with computers that were lease computers. Both new and used computers, Workstation, laptops, server rackmuntabe and the what nots. For a good ping ratio from the server end. I think it would be better having a hook up with a gigabit mostlikely. But with todays adsl and cable modems. I think they are only using I think either 10 or 100 megabit acces on them. I can be wrong.
Once I get the two servers from work over here to my place. I'll have to start tinering with both to get them working with linux on them. Fortunate enough I have one 10/100 and a gigabit eithernet connection on both. One with a single processor and the other with a dual processor in it.
And as for linux if you want to try one out. Go for ubuntu but you can choose for four diferent gui interfaces from ubuntu. More of a choice from ubuntu themselvs.
