Tron: Hidden Partition

on Saturday, March, 06, 2004 8:56 PM
Hello fellow fans;

I am here today to talk to you all about a Tron fanfilm in the works called - Tron: Hidden Partition.

I am still currently writing the script for this 30 min short. Below is a small F.A.Q:

Why am I doing this fan film ?
Well as you all know there have been tons of Star Wars fanfilms out there. However very few if any live action Tron fanfilms. Plus the Tron concept is so amazing.

What type of budget are you looking at ?
Well currently I am looking at $1000. Depending on what else is needed we can go from there.

Are you gonna sell your film after it is complete ?
NO. This film is being created for myself and the fan base, for two reasons: #1) I love Tron and I am a huge fan. #2) To build my portfolio to showcase my skills as a film maker.

Are you serious about this or are you pulling my chain ?
Dead serious.

I need your help ! How ?
Well I can do minor CGI, and as you all know this film is mostly CGI. All work will be cromakey. (Greenscreen) and then super imposed on to the CGI backgrounds. I need 2D background artists and CGI artists that are willing to put the time and effort into bringing this project to life ! Some other openings are avaliable too. (e-mail me to find out more)

What do you get out of it if you help ?
You will get your name in the credits. This is great if you also would like to have this in your portfolio to showcase your work / skill. Also you will get a DVD copy of the film. I am also looking into making a few hats / shirts for the crew. (with the name of the film and the crew members name. If I make them there is one with your name on it also) Plus credits on the site and a link to your website.

Does this job pay ?
No, sorry I can not pay you. The budget is tighter than a drum. No worries I am not getting paid either.

What's this movie about ?
Well as I mentioned before I am still doing the script work. But in short is is about a hacker that hacks into the main frame looking for traces of the master control program. He finds it but he wishes he never did.... The story is deeper than that but you get the point.

How can you get in touch with me ?
E-Mail: steve@gearworxprod.com
MSN: kloudi.geo@yahoo.com (Do not e-mail me here please this e-mail is my junk box only)

Why not pair it down to a six minute feature? Nearly all the best short films are this length, and it would give you enough (financial) scope to play around with. Great idea, though, all the same.

Pity you weren't filming in the UK; I've got Flynn's jacket and Flynn's upperhalf catsuit, which you could use in the movie. Also, The Point Hotel in Edinburgh has a lounge (to the rear of the hotel) that looks strikingly similar to parts in the movie immediately after Flynns crashes the Recognizer. I've never been in it to get a closer look, but I'm sure they would allow filming to take place if asked formally.

Awrabest with your project. The Edinburgh Film Festival would be interested in it, and, as one of the cities chief entertainments writers, I'd be able to pull a few strings for you. If you ever get over to Edinburgh, of course, that is.

I would be interested in it. What kind of help do you need there. I have a friend that has a Silicon Graphic machine. Just need to get the drives reformated on it. And reinstal Irix on it.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

I'll try to help if I can. I've already got several TRON vehicles modeled. The Light Cycle, the Tank, my creation the side cycle, and another I'm going to use in my own little short. My short will probably be only a minute or two long though. However I'm starting a new job soon so I'm sure my time will be tight. At the moment all I know how to do is CGI. Here is an idea... do you think you could help me with some of the non-CGI elements of my short? Maybe my short could be added as an easter egg to your DVD.

Oh and something else I should point out. Currently its taking me upwards of a day to make 4 seconds of animation. Unless you plan for this project to take 10 years I doubt I'll be able to do ALL of the CGI even if I did have the time. Still count me in... I'll enjoy helping as much as I can.

Say, how are you planning on doing the "glow"?
are you going to backlight your entire short? or are you doing cgi? or what?
I'd like to help, but I don't know how well I'd do at cgi. I could try to do a Bit in Lightwave if you want to use one in your flick...

also, scince I can't help a shameless plug, I've begun the scriptwriting phase of my own Tron-like film called "The Final Game". more info once I get my site online.

I have some ideas on how I will do the glow. Backlighting is oldschool Even though it worked perfect for the film.

I will be doing some samples soon to test my glow ideas.

More on this soon.

This is a great idea! I'll definitly help where i can (check your email). Please post as much information as you can, the forums can offer great feeback on your script or anything else you want, a lot of intelligent fans are on here. Are you using 30mm, or dv cams? How are you doing your sound? Where are you shooting at? How much of the film do you want in CG? Are you willing to take scenes from tron 2.0, or use the engine (aka machinima)? I think you could get some nice scenes done on the cheap using machinima techniques, if you havent hard of this google it and also check out http://www.machinima.com. I'd email dave tron and cliff about getting permission to use the engine (if you want to go that route). They should be able to point you to the right direction as get liscensing. Also what are you doing for music? Good luck to you and keep us updated!

Ok to answer your questions... Here goes.

Are you using 35mm, or DV cams?
I am using a Panasonic AG DVX 100. The short will be filmed in 24fps Progressive. The ratio the film will be shot in is 16:9 widescreen format.

How are you doing your sound?
Sound will be captured using a Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun mic. As for other sound FX I am gonna be looking into that at a later time.

Where are you shooting at?
Shooting will take place here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

How much of the film do you want in CG?
Well as you all know the Tron film was shot 90% in CG. This is no exception. The background or virtual stages are also gonna be CG or 2D art.

Are you willing to take scenes from tron 2.0, or use the engine (aka machinima)?
To create the stages and 3D levels it is not a bad idea. However I felt the game was a little cartoony for a film project. I would rather have the background done using 2D or 3D CG.

Take care all.

I might try making a matte painting (I'd make more than one-but if I let everyone down and am only able to make one, that would be a downer for everyone) and scan it in...I'll email them to anyone who might be able to use it to combine with something they're working on in sync with your project, GWP!

Let me know what scene you'd like painted-I'll only try to make one, and I'll work on it!where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

You've got my vote on that tactic!

edit: You could take some pictures and send them to GWP!

2nd edit: There weren't many moving shots in TRON, remember? These still photos would be terrific!order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

A 6 min short would be a good idea, but the script will not allow it. It will take more than 6 mins to get de-resed The budget is also growing too. So when come shoot time we will have a larger budget.

More on this later.

Sounds like a fun idea! I've wanted to do this myself for a long time, actually. I remember Tron-Sector saying they were fielding questions from us to ask one of the makers of Tron in another Q&A session. But alas, I don't remember ever seeing any updates on it.

Dear Tron-Sector Admins... Did you ever post any answers to the questions we had for one of the Tron makers? I can't remember his name, but I believe he was involved with photography and other technical aspects of Tron.

I sent several questions, some of which were:

* What type of camera, film, backlighting equipment and other production materials and equipment would be necessary to do the Tron character glow effects on my own? I'd want to keep it similar to the original style, so what are some cameras and film names, etc. from the 1982 era that I could use? (I'm thinking items from 1982 may be cheaper to buy than current stuff-- and it may look more Tron "authentic".) Do you have any suggestions using today's available cameras/film, considering I want to do this very inexpensively?

* What is the exact process, start to finish, to create these glow effects? I'm willing to paint cells frame-by-frame if I have to. I've seen parts of the process on the 20th Anniversary DVD, but I don't think there's enough info for me to go from there.

* Using the old technique, how much would it cost (roughly) for me to implement glow effects on a short piece of film? I'm artistic and technically savvy enough to do lots of things on my own and pull something off, if I just have the right things and guidance at my disposal. I SO WANT TO DO THIS!

There may have been other questions, but I can't remember. If anyone knows the answer to any of these questions, please feel free to share!!!

Thanks!where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

This could well have been the Q&A with Bruce Logan. I sent all the questions of the Bruce but never got any answers back from him.

Hello;

Just another small update.

I plan on doing a couple simple glow tests this weekend.

Before I pay my costume designer to create the costumes I am gonna make sure that I get the best effect I can and want. So if I have time this weekend I am gonna run a small test. I will be testing glow as well as light trails.
