There are like 7 people using my icon over there! I guess it's now the general signup icon for the site.
That totally sucks. Nobody asked me if I was OK with it. They just took it! It's my face, and my icon dammit!
I have asked CrackHo to remove it, as nicely as possible considering my anger. That will take care of it as far as I am concerned, but it's just really bad nettiquette to appropriate somebody's icon like that. I am more than a little unhappy about it. Can you tell? DaveTRON

I clicked on all the new signups and they all have my avatar/icon. There were two I wrote to in the forums, Tyrone and Giger asking them to remove it. I am really unhappy about this and getting unhappier. I hope they correct it soon.

Doesn't it just SUCK when people out there just TAKE someone's image (non- celebrities) and call it theirs?
I can understand people using a celebrity's image as an avatar or a popular character, movie, or cartoons and the likes - that's more of an homage from a fan (to generalize). But when people just take someone's face that's NOT a celebrity, and then use it as their on-line persona, that's just CREEPY!
I recently found that one of the animated GIFs on my site was getting a LOT of hits, and NOT from the page it's embedded on. I realized (by the referrers) that someone was using it on a message forum as their avatar. This particular icon was of MY FACE!
Ok, now I don't exactly look like that in every-day life, but I really didn't like someone using MY face as THEIR facade. It was really weird!
I ended up slapping my www and a (C) on it. I figured if they want to use it, fine - but it will reflect my dot-com on it!
They stopped using it two days later. I caught that because they made the mistake of linking directly to it. I can only imagine how many other people may have just copied it to their own web space and called it theirs.
I mean, come on - I'm NOT famous, nor is that image a part of pop-culture... and I have YET to collect a dime for any of my manipulated imagery!
Ok. That's it. I just wanted to share because someone stole my face too, and it felt really WEIRD!on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

It's not really that surprising that someone would want to use an avatar with artistic qualities to it like yours though. You have created something that can be universally accepted as a small piece of art worthy of an avatar. I don't think anyone who used your avatar was taking into consideration that it was someone else's face as much as they were probably just thinking "hey, this looks really cool"
Although, yeah, I can imagine you not being too happy about them doing that without your permission, unless you didn't provide a disclaimer or something indicating that it was your original creation that you didn't want anyone else using.

This is a problem with our newly digital society. So many people equate digital with FREE. If it's digital it's fair game. It's why piracy is rampant. People don't see digital files as posessions. It sucks in my opinion.

That's something I try to be careful about myself. I have a real habbit of "right click / save picture as" when ever I come across something I like. (I have just about everything from this site in my TRON folder!)
Mostly, it's just for me to look at or mess around with in paint shop, because I have little artistic talent myself. But every now and then I mess up and post someones pic for one reason or another (like Mr. Kings Ram drawing). He took it as a compliment, which is the only way I would ever intend it, but not everyone sees it that way.
Any how, I would certianly not use someones own face as an avatar... That's just freaky! I just try to keep in mind that this stuff is someone elses hard work, and it's not mine to do with as I please.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Hey - thanks!
A guy at work was telling me something similar when it happened. I take that as a HUGE compliment (from you, the guy at work, and someone who thinks it's cool enough for an avatar).
BUT the thing that really bothers me is that I am not someone famous, who everyone would see that and associate it with my artistic talents. PLUS, it is my face, and (again, not being famous or well known or part of pop-culture) it feels really WEIRD and freakish to know someone is out there communicating with others... behind my face.
I actually have had people ask permission to use that animation before. One guy a couple of years ago, asked if he could use it in a video game he was making for a school project. He said full credit for the imagery would go to me and no money was being made on the project. I told him go ahead and use it. He was not using it as his face, and was honorable enough to ask me, when he just as well could have just saved it, used it, and passed it off as his own to others.

Yep. There are a lot of free-bees out there on the net (that ARE meant to be free), and then there is the copyrighted material people illegally take, and art (art of all kinds) that people also regularly take and call their own. Anyone who wants to download anything I offer on my site is welcome to do so for free. I offer content for FREE, for anyone who wants to enjoy it. BUT when people use my original works (especially my face) as something they want to talk behind on the net, I would at least like the opportunity to say PLEASE DON'T! Enjoy my stuff - just don't pass it off as yours, or talk from behind my face... at least not until I do become part of pop-culture, and everyone can identify my work as MINE... but that's not an open invitation to take (without paying for) and products or entertainment works I may try and market (in the future).

Any how, I would certainly not use someone’s own face as an avatar... That's just freaky! I just try to keep in mind that this stuff is someone else’s hard work, and it's not mine to do with as I please. |
You know, I download TONS of stuff from the net - imagery, videos, sounds (generally sound FX), pretty much anything I find interesting and would like to keep around. Most people do and I think that's fine, so long as it does not violate any copyright laws or personal infringement of the people who's works you are downloading.
I probably should add a little blurb to my site asking that people do not use my original material without first getting my approval or something. Right now, I have nothing there about the use of my original works.

There ya go!
Without a doubt, that's absolutely the best thing you could do to protect yourself. At the very least, you can say "I told you so" to any would-be internet thieves when you point out that you have a disclaimer. That was certainly the first thing to go on my site before I even added any actual content to it.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
