Ahhhh - good old, classic, Battlestar Galactica!
My wife gave me the box set for Christmas, and I watched the final episode (The Hand of God) last night with her...
They entered Earth's solar system and took on a Basestar and WON! How cool was that! Good old Starbuck and Apollo had to "waggle their wings" to make it back to the Galactica safely in Baltar's Cylon Raider. I even remember that part from my childhood - me and my friends were talking about it 25 years ago at gathering!
The final episode...
Uh...
The box set contains "all 24 original episodes", right?
Hmmm, I was about 8 when that show was on TV... I clearly remember Commander Adama having a beard... in SEASON TWO!
But this box set is just season ONE... what happened to when the FOUND Earth? The episodes with Wolfman Jack in them? Man, I'm dating myself here - anybody remember Wolfman Jack?
Anyway, why have they left out SEASON TWO? Ok, I know Starbuck was only in one Season 2 episode, but I still remember liking it when I was a kid!
I couldn't remember if there actually was a season two or it it was just a TV Battlestar Galactica movie so I cheated and looked it up on the net. Yep - season two had TEN more episodes! And I couldn't find a photo, but there was mention of Adama's beard too!
I knew something was missing!
Ok, so Starbuck wasn't in too many of the season two episodes, but I still want to see them again. Why did they not include these episodes? Any ideas?
Well, I hope they release the rest of the series sometime. I don't care about the price, I just want it - ALL of the BSG original episodes! None of that recent miniseries felgercarb - but the original masterpiece, as it was meant to be seen... the show I fell in love with as a kid.
** sighs **
Ahhh, Battlestar Galactica. I can honestly say that's the coolest thing my wife has bought me since... my TRON 20th anniversary edition DVD!
But I still want the rest of them now
Has anyone heard anything about those 10 missing episodes?

You're thinking of Galactica 1980, which was not a second season of BSG but another show altogether.
From what I've read and from people I've talked to, I gather that almost no one likes Galactica 1980. It is generally regarded as having been so bad that most people (myself included) ignore it entirely.
Starbuck appeared in only one episode, which is probably the only decent one of the season.
And yes, I do remember Wolfman Jack! "Clap for the Wolfman..."

And he had a very distinct voice. I can still hear it in my mind when I think about him. I think he passed away about 10 years ago... er, yahrens ago or so.

Man - what it really that bad? I guess I would have been 9 or 10 in 1980 (depending on when it aired).
I remember... oh... what's this?
Hold on a minute, I just have to get this out...
Woo hoo!!! My 100th post in the TRON-Sector I/O Forums!!!
** clears throat **
Sorry about that... I was excited and just had to get it out...
Ok, I can remember the show now being as good in it's second season because of the lack of Starbuck. I actually remember asking my dad why he wasn't on it anymore. But overall, I do remember enjoying it.
I can remember Apollo and... and... the other guy needing currency, so they tried to cash in some gold at a bank. They wanted to prove it was gold to the clerk by using their wrist scanners to verify it!
My memories on season two, or Galactica 1980 are sketchy. But I do remember some basic elements of it.
I still want it. Was it really that bad?
I mean, was it bad in the sense that 70's and early 80's style TV shows are kind of bad by today's standards of dialogue and storytelling, or was it bad as in really bad back then? I remember enjoying it and talking about it with my friends. I missed Starbuck and the original feel of the first season, but I still enjoyed it and wanted to watch it every time. I also remember asking my father what happened to it when it was gone. I really, REALLY missed it.

I was 9 when the show aired in 1980, and even then I didn't like it. It just wasn't the same. I watched it though, hoping it would get better, but aside from the episode with Starbuck, it was really bad.
Adama & Boomer were really the only link to BSG, and as cool as they are they couldn't carry the entire show.
The "Apollo" you remember is actually Boxey, but they called him Troy because he grew up.
Here, check out this Galactica 1980 Episode Guide.

So Apollo wasn't there. My memory was of two different characters in the place of Starbuck and Apollo, but when I checked out the site with the other 10 episodes listed, one of the first things I read was the "lack of Starbuck" thing which did not mention anything about Apollo not being there (though I did not read far).
But I didn't remember the other character as supposing to be Boxey grown up! Yuck! I just don't like that now. No wonder the BSG fans were not happy with it. I wonder what made them take that awful storyline? I mean, replace the actors if other actors were not available, but Boxey grown up? I mean, in the final episode of the original season, they were already in Earth's solar system. It took them from when Boxey was a kid, through his adulthood to find the 3rd planet from the sun? That doesn't quite work.
But I must have been too young to have been turned off by that.
I too remember wanting the show to get "like it used to be" - I wanted Apollo and Starbuck to return. But the show was still entertaining enough for me as a kid. I still enjoyed the fight for survival while being persued by the Cylons and the very cool space battles. I know they used a lot of the same footage over and over for those battles, but I enjoyed them just the same.
As a kid, for me BSG was to TV, as Star Wars was to the movies.
But in light of the "changes" in BSG in 1980, I guess I can uderstand why it was not included in the box set. My guess is that (slightly older) BSG fans didn't want anything to do with the last 10 episodes.
BUT... I would still buy them if they were offered. They would not be as good as the first season, but I have that desire to see them again and re-live some more childhood through them

Well, I don't blame you for wanting to check it out again.
Anyway, enough of this BSG 1980 talk!
I picked up the Blues Brothers widescreen collector's edition DVD on the way home tonight, and I'm watching it now on my PC as I write this.
The collector's edition has got 12 minutes of extra footage! 12 extra minutes of Blues Brothers! You can't beat that!
WOOHOO!!!
