Linux in the Xbox Console.

on Thursday, January, 08, 2004 9:46 PM
Hey everyone. I don't know how many people here have the Console Xbox from Microsoft. I thought to show this to everyone. If you want to use your xbox with linux here are some details about on how to do it if your interested in something like this. Take a look at this link http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/index.php I have only heard rumours about this seems like it is possible to do. Has anyone tried something like this out???

I should point out...for those who didn't already know...performing this Linux-variant installation on your X-Box WILL void your warranty, so do so at your own risk.

A good thing to point out Fusionaddict.. I think microsoft (And this is not to blast against microsoft.) is just scare of loosing market share to other possible good OS that are available out there for the user.

Well, no, this is just standard video game console warrantee jargon. Basically, modifying your console, regardless of manufacturer, to do anything other than what it was intended to do (this can range from flashing the OS on an X-Box to Linux, chipping a PS2 to play off-region games and DVDs, or even installing a backlight in a GBA) voids your warranty, because if something were to go wrong then you couldn't hold the system manufacturer responsible. It's not marketshare, it's just plain common sense. If you fry your X-Box by changing the OS, then you can only blame yourself. The OS that's already on the system is what those games are written for, it was designed specifically for that system.

And let's be honest here...the only reason anyone would even WANT Linux on their X-Box is to be able to say "Oooh, look at me, I have Linux on my X-Box".where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Well I know that I don't have an xbox for myself. THe xbox itself is essentially your plain old regular computer that you can purchase at any mom and pop computer store.

Its okay Darksaber. Everyone has a favorite console that they play on. I'm still fond of my old intellivision and the original NES system over here from Nintendo.

linux on the Xbox is cool, but you need a mod chip from what I remember and a bios to run it... I know a guy that has a modded xbox and its pretty cool, he's not running linux tho, some os called evox i think.

RCON is that for the os that he is currently running that he needed to the mod chip. From what I remember seeing for the link above. You can use a new bios as well It was mentioned in it somewhere. But they give you some options to make it into a linux machine. That I am sure of that they give you the option to do so. Or what they also offered as well if your not too sure about it. is that they could do it for a fee. I don't remember the price though it was in US funds though. And you can have you own Xbox with the linux os insoe.

Like I said it would be cool to see though would be something different to see even on a console like that. Personally from past experience and from what I have seen over the years. I enjoy looking at different OS's that are available to the general public. Or were available at one time or another in the past years on computers.

there are two or three that come to mind off handfor me as examples from what I have seen. Or friends still have at their places. Nextstation with open source, Sun Solaris on a Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 from Sun Microsystems, and OS/2 Warp are just a few to mention. I personally have two nextsations over here. that I am going to get up and going again. Since I have some other hard drivs that can be fitted into to. And I do have the Operating systems available for it. Its jut the matter of getting the time to sit down with them and change the hard drives on both of them. And fire them up and install the OD from the CDrom that will work with them.

You be surprised once you start learning some other opertaing systems whether they are current or out of date ones. Its fun learning them and to be able to say to someone that you know other things besides what there is currently available.
