i cant belive what they have done with the series. So many short cuts..its amazing. Yes, the show is pretty, but its not true to the original form I HATE RETELLINGS >(
That said.....if you forget about the name, and just view it as a series unto itself....i might like it. We will see, but i cant get over all the things that are out of place.....bsg was one of my all time favorite scifi series, I hate to see it misrepresented.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Just got through watching the 2nd part.
I actually liked it, yes there's things about it I don't like, but over all I did like watching it.
It's by no means a replacement for the old BSG, but I did like how the story was presented and some of the technical aspects which were shown, like the fighters manuverability in zero gravity. The CGI parts were really my favorite parts.
That aside, I really wanted to see more of the newer Cylon Robots. The idea of the human Cylons is neat... but it would of been cooler to see the newer cylon design actually put to use besides standing and acting like a door man.
That's about my 2 cents worth.*tosses 2 pennies into the bucket, shrugs, then wanders off whistling the old BSG theme*

I first saw short, quick promos for this miniseries over the summer. A HUGE fan of the TV show when I was a kid, I was very excited about the upcoming remake... or what I thought would be a remake. As the months went by and the promos were more detailed, I realized this would not be a remake, but a re-inventing of it. It turned me off big time. I watched part of the behind the scenes thing they showed to promote it, and decided I would definitely NOT watch it.
I find myself bothered that they had to do this to BSG - why couldn't they just make up their own, NEW, NON-BSG sci-fi adventure? I would have watched that. Why did they have to take the BSG story (or core elements anyway) and character names and some basic design (like the vipers) and have to re-invent what BSG would be? Man - NOT cool! That's just evil.
Perhaps calling it "BSG" was an instant and sure-fire way for the producers to grantee good financial backing for the production and a built-in audience? Or perhaps not - who knows. Just pondering.
I will not watch it. Not now, nor in repeat showings. It doesn't even exist to me. I don't understand how any fan of the original show can enjoy it... or even stomach watching it - I would say it is in fact NOT BSG.
But that's me. Take away the "BSG" and it may very well hold it's own, with a good story, fun characters, and exciting action sequences. But call it "BSG" and it had better be BSG... which this is clearly not.
That's my opinion.
I think my wife is getting me the original BSG on DVD set for Christmas. She knows I want it and was asking questions about it. Now THAT is WORTH watching! abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

I've been a fan of BSG ever since I watched it in its original run as a kid, and I was ecstatic when I learned the series was going to be released on DVD; I grabbed the last copy on my local Best Buy's shelves the day it was released! I hope you get the Cylon-head DVD box set Todd, because it's awesome!
As for the new series... well, I like to try to keep an open mind so I did watch it.
It is a different show. It isn't BSG. The magic of TOS lies in its ability to make you care about the main characters almost immediately upon their introduction. The actors and writers did such a great job, they seemed to understand the characters so well (and / or the casting was so good) that I believe the show was in its stride from the very start. You could almost swear the actors had been playing these characters for at least a few seasons.
After watching the "reimagining", I can honestly say I couldn't care less what happens to the Colonials. None of the characters are in the least bit appealing, especially the extremely annoying and utterly unlikeable female Starbuck.
The Cylons aren't the least bit menacing or interesting. The synthezoid models seem to be some perverse attempt to get us to care about the Cylons. It's the hackneyed "aliens taking human form in order to defeat the humans" plot device. The new robotic Cylons kind of look like the Lost In Space movie's "reimagined" B-5 robot on a diet. The self-piloted Cylon ships are rip-offs of the self-piloted robot ships of the Trade Federation from the new Star Wars movies. Personally, I think Number 6 really reminds me of an evil Cherry 2000.
Humans are presented as horrible, irredeemably flawed, arrogant and self-absorbed monsters who are finally getting their come-uppance at the righteous hands of their poor, mistreated creations. This is diametrically opposed to the original presentation of humans as a peace-loving, enlightened-but-still-human people who got into a war with the utterly alien-in-origin Cylons after coming to the defense of an ally under siege.
The cool ancient Egyptian connection was also nowhere to be seen in the new version.
I could go on, but you get the idea. It failed to impress. I'm sure most fans of the original and only BSG would agree.

I quickly read a few "rants" on the cylon.org BSG board.
*breaths in deeply and sighs*
Ahhhh. So I'm not the only greatly disappointed BSG fan about this (and current company here).
I'm glad I did myself the honor of NOT watching it. In my mind, BSG is unspoiled by the imposter miniseries on the Sci-fi channel. Perhaps tainted a little by the promos and advertising of it, but I looked the other way while they tried to pass off this other show as BSG.
I really don't mean to sound cruel or mean to those involved in the production, but I really do hope this thing bombs and continues to be an awful sour taste in the mouths of any BSG fans out there. I hope this sends a powerful message to any future producers who are thinking of butchering another classic sci-fi TV series or film.
Get the picture? Come up with something ORIGINAL and don't try and pass it off as a classic remake. Or at least work with a classic and INCORPERATE in to it as many classic elements as possible - don't butcher it. Nobody cares about cool, modern special FX, updated designs and slick promos, when the show itself is cold, pale, and void of the magic elements that made the original a hit to begin with.

I know this topic is a bit old now, but I just had the chance to see the new BSG mini-series.
If I pretend that the series actually has little or nothing to do with the original, then I can appreciate it. It's flawed, but not completely horrible. There were some good things about it. Hopefully it would get better as it went along.
But as a continuation or re-telling of BSG . . . they really screwed it up. I suppose the whole point of "re-imaging" the series was just that, to make dramatic changes to "appeal" to today's audiences. But in doing so, it completely lost the charm of the original.
The parts I disliked the most were the character of Starbuck (what have they done . . . the best character is now completely unlikeable) and the typical "our creations have turned on us" storyline (like we haven't seen it a thousand times before, and completely contradicts the original).
If a BSG series goes ahead, I will watch it . . . but it will never replace the original.

Well, seeing as how I am apparently the only person on this board who ISN'T a BG freak, I suppose I should check in with my opinion.
I have seen a few episodes of the original series and one or two of BG1980, so my opinion of the mini isn't afected by any pre-existing opinion. What I saw was an average Sci-Fi Channel original. nothing more, nothing less.
The ideas were rehashes of well-known Science Fiction cliches, the FX were average at best, the performances were poor. Edward James Olmos was the only enjoyable thing about the mini, and even he seemed agitated that he seemed to be whoring himself out for a made-for-TV remake.
They should have taken the money they're spending on the first season of the show and spent it on another season of the new OUTER LIMITS...a far superior SFC original program.
The Clu abides, man...

The last thing I read indicated that they're not making a series out of it.
Instead, they're putting their money into Stargate Atlantis.
I do like Stargate SG-1, and I'm hopeful that Stargate Atlantis will be as entertaining as Stargate SG-1.

I'm still sad that Dean and Roland didn't get to make the Stargate movie into a trilogy as they had originally planned. MGM opted for the tv series instead which IMO is mediocre by comparison. I've tried watching a couple of episodes and they put me to sleep. I guess I'm just not a big fan of movie-to-tv spin-offs.

I really enjoy Stargate SG-1 (been watching it through Netflix- go Netflix!!!) a, as it's own take on stargate, not as a continuation of the movie. (Which I also enjoy!) And I hope stargate Atlantis does well, as it sounds interesting.
But! This is not a stargate thread!
I saw a couple episodes of the original BSG series, and did not really enjoy them. I have not seen the new miniseries, as I'm waiting for it to some out on netflix, yet, I do think that having seen the opinions on it, I will go into it not expecting BSG by any means.
I'll post again when I see it.
Carry on!

The show treats the movie as a super-duper premiere episode, and is a continuation of the movie.
Yeah, that time loop episode is a classic. They had to go through THOUSANDS of loops, I'm sure.
BTW, Season 5 just came out on DVD on Tuesday. As soon as BestBuy sends me my usual discount coupons, I'm picking up SG-1 Season 5 and B5 Season 4.
I just read that season 8 of SG-1 will be the last. Ah well, they had a great run.
Oh, and I just read that Sci-Fi has ordered six episodes of the new crud they dare call BSG. INFIDELS! "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. J. Adams "C is for cookie. I don't mean everything's different, just the charahcters are a little different, and you don't see much of Abydos, but that's a good thing.
I'm not saying it's like a completely different 'Stargate', it's just a neat continuation whithout it being a rehash. (sorry i didn't make my point clearer)
That was a bit confusing, but I hope I made my point. ------------

Thank the Users they are NOT going to make a series out of that abomination of BSG!
With any luck, we may end up with an original cast continuation of BSG... but PLEASE no more of that "let's mix it all up, take away anything with charm, make it cold and pale and STILL call it BSG" miniseries - I hope it fades away in to obscurity and NEVER resurfaces... EVER!
Sorry - I know you're talking SG-1 now, but I had to get that out.
Please continue. As you were.
