A couple of quick questions:
1) Does the Tron Glow effect they developed with Nvidia for this game work on ATI cards (9700 Pro, 9800 Pro)? Does it look better on Nvidia FX cards?
2)Does the game support 5.1 surround sound? If so, does it only support it if you use EAX? I'm just using the sound chip on my motherboard (AC97) which supports 5.1 but I cannot hear anything out of the rear speakers while playing.
Thanks!

1) As far as I know, no. (Besides, ATI sucks anywho.)
2) Dunno.

Do you mean that Tron Glow does not work on ATI cards or that Tron Glow doesn't look any different on ATI and Nvidia FX cards ?

Moleculor and redrain85 you're both slightly wrong.
1. Yes the glow effect uses standard pixel shaders which are supported by both ATI and nVidia cards. nVidia helped Monolith to create the effect, but the hardware that allows for the effect is not proprietary to them. Any card with pixel shader support (Radeon 8500 or above, GeForce 3 or above) will display the glow effect. The quality of the effect is the same on any card that supports it. That being said I personally think the game looks better on ATI cards, simply because ATI cards have always had better color control than nVidia cards, which tend to look slightly washed out when compared head to head with an ATI card. Color quality is important in a game like Tron which uses many bright primary colors.
2. Tron 2.0 does support 4.1/5.1 positional sound, but I believe it does so only through EAX.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

tron supports eax 2, thats they only way i have been able to get the 5.1 to work (with an eax card) works great with my audigy 2 plat
Steve put a pretty good description on the 'glow' effect. Besides, its just hardware, the glow effect is a software thing. Any dx8 card should support it. As for the 'quality' well actaully image quailty is a very debatable thing. I really like my 9700 pro and its running faster then any card you can purchase even though its 3 months old (any stock card that is)...for pure framerates I'm diehard ati (unless nvidia gets their act together). We will see how things turn out for the next round of cards, but honetly do you really need the extra 2.454 fps from one card versus the other (i must admit it is a fun thing to have....). Tron 2.0 will NOT push these latest cards to their limits.

Yeah I did want to make it clear that it's only in my personal experience that ATI cards have better color than nVidia cards.
I had a GeForce 3 and I upgraded to a Radeon 9700. As a sort of limited experiment I ran the 9700 in one box and the GF3 in another PC in the house on the same monitor with a switch. I booted up the same game (Morrowind to be exact) and switched between the two. I found the color with the 9700 was much, much richer than with the GF3. Now once I messed with the settings and upped the 'artifical vibrance' setting the GF3 is was pretty much (but not completely) equivalent to the 9700. But...yeah, I guess that's definitely not a conclusive test, there's a lot of variables, the game, the monitor, the drivers, etc. Just in my case (and opinion possibly) I found the Radeon to have much richer more vibrant colors than any nVidia card I've owned. I'm not poo-pooing on nVidia though, they still make some great products. I just prefer my ATI card right now, and a lot of that does have to do with the fact that it's an All-in-Wonder and I love the other options (TV-in and excellent TV-out)
kmon: in the most literal and anally technical sense, the glow effect is actually a hardware thing, since it's accomplished by a pixel sharder which is special hardware processing. It just so happens that it's standardized hardware so any card that supports pixel shaders 1.1 or above (which is basically any card that supports pixel shaders) can run it.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Thanks everyone for your replies! That really cleared things up. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on the unique visuals this game has.
BTW, does anyone know if I can get surround sound (4.1, 5.1, etc) if I plugged in my SB Live card (I'm talking the original SB Live here, not the Audigy or Live 5.1 cards)? The card supports EAX but I forget if it is EAX 1 or 2. I decided there was no point in upgrading my sound card because my CPU fan is so *$#$@ loud.

Well, the original SB Live card was only a 4.1 card (hence the next release was the SB Live 5.1) so you definitely couldn't get 5.1 sound. There is however, a chance that you may be able to get 4.1 sound.
The real question you've got to ask if you really want to potentially screw up your system for the game. If you do install the SB Live make sure you disable your onboard sound and delete all the drivers.
Actually since you seem to have a 5.1 speaker set up it may be worthwhile for you to invest in an Audigy (an Audigy 1 is sufficient and relatively cheap). Most any game that uses 5.1 sound does so through EAX. I can't recall any game that ever supported even 4.1 through AC97 based sound decoders.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Ok. Thanks for the info. I do kind of enjoy the out of the box appeal of using the AC97 codec for sound. Surround sound works when I play movies and DVDs on my computer so I figured it would work for games too. Maybe I'll look into the Audigy.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

TRON 2.0 uses EAX ADVANCED HD, but I think I read somewhere that if your card supports EAX 2 TRON 2.0 can use that too.
