I've been kicking this around as well...
First off... I really love the new Super Cycle. I love the way it looks and I want one so bad that it hurts.
But I can't give up my first love..
I love the (reg.) Light-Cycle... Nothing can change my heart on this... I LOVE IT...
It's so cool that the Light-Cycle is one of the main symbols of TRON. Nothing could ever look so awesome...
The new Super Cycle is the next best thing... But never a replacement...
What is your thoughts??? |

I also like the original Light Cycles better. But the new Super Cycle has grown on me.
At first I didn't like it that much. But now that I've seen it in action, it looks pretty good. I know this is basically the concept that Syd Mead originally wanted to go with, but couldn't because of the limited CGI back in the early 80's.
Funny how a modern PC can render this stuff on the fly, while the mainframes they used back then took several minutes per frame. Basically, our desktop PCs today are even more powerful than early Cray supercomputers.
We've come a long way . . .

I love the fact that Syd Mead had the opportunity to create the lightcycles in the full computed-with riders on the outside-look.
I love both! (Although I do find myself sliding back towards the original--I can't lie! )
Wouldn't it be cool if you could use all the different MP characters to pilot the supercycle?

When I was 16, there would be times I'd see some bikers on crotch-rockets passing me. I always liked those bikes, but I always said to myself, "If only I had a light cycle".. lol
I did once dream having one and crusing town watching folks wonder what the hell it was... hehehe...
Of course without the wall.....
But it would come in handy if your try'n to outrun the police.. lol
Still would love to have one....order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I prefer the original because its faster in my opinion I mean sure the SLG may have a higer top speed but you lose all that when you turn. I've had rings (or squares in this case) ran around me by an old cycle

I like the original better. I think it's because, as it has to use simple geometry, it looks and feels more like what would be found in a computer. The Super LIght Cycle is cool and all, but too much, I feel. Also, it looks more...cumbersome? I can imagine the little zippy lightcycles making all those turns, but not that hude, long super cycles. Granted, Real-World physics shouldn't (and isn't) a consideration, but still, that's what it looks like.
Also, I like that the rider is (relatively) safe and enclosed in the cycle.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

I agree...
There is something about the biker being inclosed in a cockpit/cab style that makes the classic Light-Cycle special.

I like them both, personally. I don't see it as an either/or.
One thing that didn't occur to me until working on the game was that, in the movie, the view you got of the rider inside the lightcycle was like a player inside an enclosed co-op machine.

I think my preference for the old cycle (in addition to being just plain old nostalgia) is somewhat related to Suzzy's post.
I just can't see that graceful, long and curvy Super Lightcycle being confined to 90° turns. I think if I saw it outside the context of the grid, driving like a normal motorcycle (banking in turns and such) I'd like it much more. In fact I'd prefer to see it in such a setting instead of the regular lightcycle.
OMG brain storm! Wouldn't be awsome if you were on the grid with the regular lightcycle and broke out (in a scene similar to the movie) and the bike, being introduced in the new freeform setting, changed into the Super cycle! Like in order to deal with the more complex environment (full range of movement) the code was forced to upgrade (which was accomplished by User power or something). Dang it's too bad the use of the Super lightcycle has already been established, because that would have been a kick ass way to introduce it.
Or maybe something like you're on an old system, but you drive onto a new system and it upgrades as you pass the "system barrier" or something. Cliff, I'm absolutely in love with this idea of transformation now. I think it'd be really cool in a sequel or whatever to have a sitation where your on an old system and you traverse to a new system in realtime and *something* transforms. I think the recognizer would make a good candidate (we all know the old style recognizers are defunct, but now there's freedom to create a new replacement and introduce it in an entirely awsome manner!)

Being a motorcyclist myself, the super lightcycle outside the context of the grid wouldn't be capable of banking and turning. Syd based the design off real-world dragbikes which do nothing but go straight ahead and remain legal only on dragstrips. Think of them as the two-wheeled version of the funny car.

No, in fact I encourage you to use it.

It's a good thing that Tron isn't the real world then, because it still be awsome to drive around the world freeform on a super cycle

I'm not entirely certain, but I seem to remember hearing somewhere that it's because they use nitrous oxide injected fuel to get the huge engine power. As you may well know, nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas, hence "funny car." (Though I also seem to remember it's a misnomer since the nitrous used in cars is not the same as the nitrous used by the dentist.) -----------
