Ok, I posted that the game had an early release & I was in the process of installing... Well, I've spent the rest of the day trying to de-bug the damn thing. Don't know if it's the game, my system, or the drivers.
I have an AMD 1.3 w/ gf4ti 4200, 416mb ram, and a sblive 5.1 audio card, running windows 98se.
The demos ran fine. Lately the graphics have been getting buggy, & now the full version is unplayable due to "texture bleed". Dunno if that's what it's called, but the textures & lightmaps & stuff spike off the models, both character & environmental & go on to random points in space. It looks like everything is spikey & I can't see squat to play.
I've got the newest sblive audio drivers, the newest nvidia gfx drivers, directx 9.0b & nothing is helping. My windows start-up screen has black bars running vertically through it & the microsoft web troubleshooter tells me jack.
I had no problems until recently & I've even gone so far as to reformat & re-install EVERYTHING!
Can anybody help me out? PLEASE!

That doesn't sound good . . . black bars in your start-up screen? Ouch.
Are you sure you're not trying to overclock anything, or messed with the memory timing settings of your video card? Corruption usually means your video card processor has been overclocked too much, or your video card memory timings are set too high.
If that's not it, then it could be any number of things. Since you've already done a fresh install, it at least eleminates that possibility . . . unless things were somehow not installed correctly. Are you using hacked drivers, or the official Detonators?
That's about all I can suggest right now.

Drivers have been re-installed after I installed the game. No change. I am using official drivers & have no overclocked hardware. I am at a total loss. Sent an email to the support address, but as the game's not even officially released yet, I don't expect to hear anything for a while. My friend suggested that my video card may be going bad. Damn but I hope not. One thing though, when I re-formattd my drive I used Maxtor's MaxBlast. It went through the steps & then asked for the windows set-up disk for the OS. Windows stopped setup & told me that it should not continue because there was already (or still) an OS on the drive. The black bars on the windows start-up screen are a recognized error key on the directx website, but none of there suggested fixes did bupkiss.

Ok I see your problems as this:
1. Windows 98SE. Your system has more then enough power to run XP.
2. Possible video card issue
3. Direct X may need reinstall.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Whoa, that's a pretty big deal, and I'm pretty sure that's not a game thing. Have you tried running other Direct3D games and seeing if they have problems too?
What your describing sounds eerily similar to artifacing problems that happen when you overclock. Even though your not overclocking, the same artifacing can be caused by permanent damage to the card (usually from a heat issue). I dunno, sounds like your card may be dying. -----------

I agree with steve on this one. I had a vid card just die on me, when i pulled the card the nvidia had 'forgot' to apply paste to the heat sink....but thats not your problem. It does sound like a heat issue, maybe clean all the junk out around that card and get the airflow back around it? Make sure the ram syncs are clear as well. You can also try reseating the card, sometimes odd things like that help. So, you are now running on a clean install of windows...right? Run dxdiag....start-run type dxdiag, then look at 2nd tab make sure it says no problems found below the list, then go another tab over (display) click test direct3d. See if you have any odditites. If its STILL not working, i would hijack another persons card, and see if you can get theirs to work. Good luck to you.

I would go into the Properties of the card where you can make changes and set the video card properties to use the Default settings and try it.
Come on, you scuzzy data, be in there.

Hard to figure out the problem with the info provided. Please copy your dxdiag log file into the body of an email and send it with a description of the problem to support@tron20.net.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

OK. So I've tried everything in the book from driver updates to re-installs to a complete re-format of the hard drive. After much frustration I just decided to shut the thing down and deal with it another day. Seems that may be all it needed. After a 24-hour period of restfullness, I started the system back up & everthing seemed fine. No black bars on the windows start-up screen, no texture rips in-game, nada. At least for the first 2 hours. Then it started to vex me again. Taking a note from a previous post referring to overclocking & temperature issues, I decided to shut the system down & let it cool off a bit. It locked up on the windows shut-down screen. After that was resolved & appropriate cool-down time was allowed for, the game worked just fine again. For about 2 hours. So I appear to have a temperature issue inside my case. I've checked all the fans, power supply, processor, board, case & graphics card. All appear in working and functional order. I can't determine the cause at this point, beyond the apparent temerature sensitivity. I can play with the case open & things seem to run fine. I just can't figure out why the problem could be occuring, especially now. I haven't altered configuration in at least 6 months, and no problems prior to this point. It's a stumper. So, video is now functioning properly. On the other hand, audio has decided to give me grief. There is an occasional static POP in environmental audio with no apparent cause. Drivers are all current & I am to the point where I really could just toss it in the river. Damn. Any further thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. As would a new computer. Crap. Thanks for all the help & suggestions to this point, gang.

Is the case itself in an open area where the exhaust can get out? I know of some folk who put their PC in one of those enclosed desks and they would overheat becasue there was no way for the hot air to get out.
Come on, you scuzzy data, be in there.

Black bars in windows startup or any bars for that matter are almost always a problem with the video card itself. try this, remove your vid card and check for any visble damage like charing, dirty contacts, so forth. Clean the card connectors with an eraser on the end of a pencil and spray out your agp slot with compressed air. I've usually been able to git rid of that problem with those procedures unless the card was beyond repair. 1 more thing chk your agp voltage and make sure its not set to something extreme or too low. The bios on some mobo's dont always detect the correct voltage. for yout card anywhere from 1.65-1.75 should be okay.
