Augh! There is something very wrong about this.  
I have a bad feeling there is a very long, boring criminal case in my future.

Dude, it is so easy to get off from jury duty you won't even believe it.
That being said your absence will allow someone with little to no IQ and a lot of time on their hands to replace you.
I had heard a theory that juries should be made up of lawyers who are paid well to sit and listen. "Jury of your peers" is really great and all, but I don't want to be convicted of anything by a bunch of geeks who are more interested in the new Teen Titans on Cartoon Network than listening to the legal mumbo-jumbo being shotgunned their way.

Do what I did. Granted, this would only work if you filed married, probably.
But in the beginning, they always call forward people who should get off for one reason or another, or have special concerns.
I went forward and explained very politely, that I am the sole income provider for my family of 5, and while I'm not asking to be released, I did ask to be put on a "light" case that should only take a day.
I got assigned a case, and left about 3pm that day.

They've been after me for a while. This is the third summons in about as many years.
Waitaminit! Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong. The last times I showed up they dismissed us all and I got the rest of the day off. It IS a sign!
I show up, get dismissed, go to the store and pick up my copy of Tron 2.0 and then go home and play for the rest of the day.
Once I lose my negative attitude, I can see that it is awful nice of the court system to give me a day off work on release day.

That threw me off my first summons. I show up, got dismissed and thought "Great, I showed up and now I won't be bothered for 3 years"
Three months later I got another one. Apparently you actually have to SERVE on a jury to get let off for those three years.
