Well, couple of things to consider:
Avitar:
Lazy way, use google image search type in random things of interest then copy the url to the avitar spot in your profile (you can edit your profile in the upper right of the page if you hadent noticed).
I've got far too much time way: Pull out illustartor or someother image editor/ creator and make your own. Not really that hard, but it can be pretty cool if done right, just look at some of this nifty avitars on the board for ideas. Then post your picture on a server someplace. then copy the link to your profile.
UBB/ jazzy posts: Check out this site, pretty much everything you need
posting goodies
As for things filled with words, thats a tuffy (so many good ones). You should always read the classics, asimov and so forth, as for net based words...look at the onion

Don't feel bad, kiddo. I'm a full fledged Geek and *I* still don't know HTML coding. Everything I have here I had to beg, borrow, steal and cajole for the right coding!
