GREETINGS PROGRAMS!!!
Why is this site a dead zone??

Been a few cycles since I signed in.

I'm excited for the new movie!!

I've been a TRON fan since the original. I've got TRON pins from Legacy and the game postcards.

I hope all whom read this are well.

Long Live The INTELLIVISION!!!

Yeah, I'm about the same. Joined this site in 2010, I think. I blame sites like Reddit and the like. Smaller forums like this just become ghost towns, sadly. Back in 2010 I remember struggling to keep up with all the posts discussing Legacy.

That being said, the new trailer certainly looks promising, and I sincerely hope it is good. Like others, I am just cautiously optimistic due to the creative team behind it.

Why is this site a dead zone??

Greetings! Probably because the site got disbanded and neglected from behind-the-scenes. Every time you visited the past 5 or 10+ years, a warning would pop up before logging in saying the site was not secure. There was spam all over the place. Old posts and private messages would get tagged with spam messages, even ones from years ago. A lot of new threads were just spam with hyperlinks to who knows where. Stuff like that.

Tron communities popping up on Reddit, Facebook, and others likely haven't helped things here, but the site spam was and still is definitely an issue keeping many away from Tron-Sector. Since spam/hackery issues have dragged on unchecked for years, running rampant, there's not much sense in frequenting. Also, leading up to all that was Tron Legacy creating some divisions here in the community in terms of what people wanted to see (old school vs. new), what people wanted to talk about, different temperaments, different approaches to disagreements, etc. Slight fracturing of the community, so some bailed

Through all that, pretty much almost everyone has left. Not to mention, the initial Tron 3 got canceled shortly after Tron Legacy came out, and any official video games surrounding Tron Legacy were not what Tron franchise lovers wanted to see. Plus, the typical Tron franchise 'new movie' rumors of "green lit, canceled, green lit, canceled, possibly green lit" that has plagued the franchise for decades got tiresome when it started happening after Tron Legacy, too. So, an overall feeling of abandonment of the franchise (again) for years... except in the theme parks... with Marvel and Star Wars movies and shows taking over the world and a lot of Disney's cinematic attention for 15 years... I feel that also helped snuff the energy out of the franchise through time. Not as vibrant of a community here, which used to flourish with ideas, speculations, reminiscing, and the like.

Many factors. Hard to pinpoint just one. I don't claim to know the exact science of it all, but hopefully that brings some perspective.

New trailer looks pretty awesome. Looking forward to it! Hopefully with Marvel and Star Wars fatigue that many are experiencing, Tron: Ares will be successful, be a breath of fresh air, and will breathe new life into the franchise for years to come.

And I hope a new Tron FPS type game inspired by Tron 2.0 can be made for the franchise. I'm tired of all the simplistic arcade-feeling Tron games that have come out, focusing on parkour, lightcycles, or the recent graphic novel-type ones. The universe is perfect for a deep, expansive, sophisticated, first-person adventure; and yet we get parkour as a focus and selling point, or a rushed game lacking any depth simply to coincide with a film launch. (As if the only thing people see in Tron is flashy neon lights and so we have to make a video game equally as shallow... sigh.)

I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^

Greetings programs!

Nice to see a couple familiar names popping up here. I don't know if anyone will remember mine, but I was a very active (and probably very annoying) user here in the post-Legacy era, as a too-online too-early 11 year old, hahah. I'm pretty sure I got banned once, thus the '2' in my name... Oh well. This account was last used 10 years ago, and I can't believe I was even able to remember the password!

I mainly want to drop in and say thanks to everyone here who made this site such a friendly and welcoming place for a wayward kid like me. Tron has remained a huge passion and love of mine, due in no small part to nostalgia for my time here, much of which was spent daydreaming about the future of the franchise that would only come to pass now, 15 years later.

It's a bit surreal to even be typing this, but in a truly mind-blowing full circle moment, I actually worked as a creative producer on the trailer for Tron Ares! For all the time I spent imagining what the first glimpse at the next film would look like, I never dreamed I would help bring it to life. Every day I worked on it felt like high-fiving my 11 year old self through a time portal. I even got to voice act as the cop on the radio at the beginning! (Does that mean I'm canonically in the Tron universe now? Can someone make a fan wiki entry for Center City Police Unit 12? Just kidding. Okay, half-kidding.)

This trailer was a dream come true for me, and a labor of love for Tron and all my fellow fans who used to congregate here. I was thinking about y'all and what you'd want to see every step of the way. Much love from the grid, and I'll see you in theaters this October!

END OF LINE

The other problem was that everything simply got talked to death, multiple times.  I had actually started work on a post meant to be a sticky that listed every thread discussing X or Y issue-- some topics had many;  How many times can you keep talking about the same things and making the same arguments before you've just beaten that dead horse into foam?

With this new movie, no doubt interest will revive.  I have to admit that having seen the trailer... I'm so far not impressed.  One of my arguments has always been, "put Tron in 'the real world' and you've just taken away what makes it unique and exciting-- that it takes place inside a computer."  Also, where's Tron?  Is Alan in this one?  Are Sam/Quorra?  If not, how will their absence be explained... in a way that's actually plausible?  For that matter, we hear Flynn's voice-- will he be in it, and how will they explain that?

Not sure how I feel about a Nine Inch Nails soundtrack.  In an ideal world, I'd like to love NIN.  In the real world, I can only listen to so much before it all starts to sound the same ("you're so toxic but I want you") and Trent Reznor's voice starts to grate.  However, a friend promises me he does great work on soundtracks, so I'm prepared to be somewhat optimistic.

What do you want? I'm busy.

Program, please!

Chaos.... good news.

Yeah, I do remember you, LWS!

Hard to believe it's been so long. I remember one time you and I tried to (unsuccessfully) convince Sketch an admin at the time to make us an avatar. We tried bribing him with photos of cars designed by Virgil Exner.

Random memories. Good seeing your name again!

Also, that is seriously awesome that you got to work on the new trailer. I can't wait to see the movie.
