I like the original better.

This is one reason I will never buy Blu-Ray. That and I spent years replacing my VHS with DVD's now they make Blu-Ray, and it is already on it's way out the door.

I am in the process of copying all my DVD's to a terabyte drive and it all runs from my tablet.

It think they cropped the shot and cut out the soundstage at the top/bottom of the frame.

However Since I no longer buy DVD' I download movies from torrent, then there is no need to buy Blu-Ray. I can download the HD movies for free. But I don't do that often unless it is the only available version. I have owned Tron on Laserdisc, VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray. All these sources are quite different. The biggest variation is probably between the Blu-ray version and all the others. A brief rundown on the comparisons:
VHS=absolutely the worst format, if you like tron, NEVER watch it on VHS.
Laserdisc=Tron (1982) [122 AS]- Slightly better than the VHS, but the "screen wiggle" is quite pronounced and the sound is not very good. There is a superior archive edition tron laserdisc out there which was released later on.
DVD=quite good. If you want the original unaltered coloring this is probably your best bet.
Blu-ray=like I said, this is the most different than all the other versions. The video noise and other artifacts are really cleaned up. The picture is much clearer with better definition. Sound is much improved as well. Basically, if you want the best quality this is by far and away the best option. No "it's not a little better quality than the DVD", it's a HUGE difference that will be immediately apparent.

I just want to make a quick comment on the "DVD looks almost like Blu-ray" comment. I don't know where this is coming from. Blu-ray's have 6 times as many pixels than DVD! Also, the bitrate of the video stream is much higher and they use a better video compression algorithm. My only conclusion when people say they can't tell the difference is that: 1) they have poor vision, 2) are not at proper viewing distances to discern the quality 3) using poor equipment that degrades the inherent quality 4) there system is not set up correctly.

I have a dedicated home theater room with high end equipment and Blu-ray really gets you to a similar quality of going to the movies. DVD is very far from this standard. I know many will be content with watching Tron on a laptop or a small 40" TV with built in speakers, but on the proper setup, movies like Tron and Tron: Legacy really take you into a different world.
