TRON '82 on Blu-ray... miss the greys?

on Tuesday, April, 16, 2013 1:12 AM
I saw a comment from an Amazon reviewer that was a bit interesting. He said that the blu-ray version of TRON '82 was trash because they did so much color correction, that it took out that grey film haze that the "look" is sort of known for. He was pissed. Dude was pissed.

*shrug*

So I bought it, and I can see his point. Personally, it's SO GORGEOUS and vivid with popping color and clean lines, I really don't care. I can pop in my clamshell VHS any time I want the original tints.

You could say similar things about any remastered film from the days of old - and if you want to go way back, how about TECHNICOLOR?

What do you guys think? If you're looking for blu-ray, you're looking for the best picture you could ask for, but do you think it takes away from the feel of the original film? Just curious. Maybe that Amazon reviewer lives here.

I like the original better.

This is one reason I will never buy Blu-Ray. That and I spent years replacing my VHS with DVD's now they make Blu-Ray, and it is already on it's way out the door.

I am in the process of copying all my DVD's to a terabyte drive and it all runs from my tablet.

My other ride is a Light Cycle.

I'm still trying to figure out what is different about the two #12 shots... it is waaaaay too early for me to do "detail," lol.

What do you want? I'm busy.

Program, please!

Chaos.... good news.

It think they cropped the shot and cut out the soundstage at the top/bottom of the frame.

I think blu-ray makes a lot of sense for large TVs and high dev movies made in the last 10 years. It looks especially sharp for animated features and cg-heavy movies. imo.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I have a large screen HD TV and my DVD's work just fine.

However Since I no longer buy DVD' I download movies from torrent, then there is no need to buy Blu-Ray. I can download the HD movies for free. But I don't do that often unless it is the only available version. I have watched identical movies on identical TVs side by side, one DVD, one Blu-Ray and see no difference.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

I personally prefer viewing the film as the director originally intended. I know that Steven was a big part of remastering the film for Blu-Ray and he probably approved the 'New' color correction. Personally, even if this wasnt the original intention, I like the new color correction better.

I have owned Tron on Laserdisc, VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray. All these sources are quite different. The biggest variation is probably between the Blu-ray version and all the others. A brief rundown on the comparisons:
VHS=absolutely the worst format, if you like tron, NEVER watch it on VHS.
Laserdisc=Tron (1982) [122 AS]- Slightly better than the VHS, but the "screen wiggle" is quite pronounced and the sound is not very good. There is a superior archive edition tron laserdisc out there which was released later on.
DVD=quite good. If you want the original unaltered coloring this is probably your best bet.
Blu-ray=like I said, this is the most different than all the other versions. The video noise and other artifacts are really cleaned up. The picture is much clearer with better definition. Sound is much improved as well. Basically, if you want the best quality this is by far and away the best option. No "it's not a little better quality than the DVD", it's a HUGE difference that will be immediately apparent.

I just want to make a quick comment on the "DVD looks almost like Blu-ray" comment. I don't know where this is coming from. Blu-ray's have 6 times as many pixels than DVD! Also, the bitrate of the video stream is much higher and they use a better video compression algorithm. My only conclusion when people say they can't tell the difference is that: 1) they have poor vision, 2) are not at proper viewing distances to discern the quality 3) using poor equipment that degrades the inherent quality 4) there system is not set up correctly.

I have a dedicated home theater room with high end equipment and Blu-ray really gets you to a similar quality of going to the movies. DVD is very far from this standard. I know many will be content with watching Tron on a laptop or a small 40" TV with built in speakers, but on the proper setup, movies like Tron and Tron: Legacy really take you into a different world.

I wore out my VHS copy of Tron, when I was a kid. In fact, It got so bad that I was getting used to the video/audio warbles and came to expect it when the 20th Anniv. version came out. When it was a clean playback it seemed almost weird

Same here! The original version I had was off the TV with commercial breaks, so I still expect commercial breaks on occasion. where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
