When he's standing there with his safehouse patio looking out at it, the city just looks pretty close, like if I were Flynn, I'd have put it a little farther out. It's not as though the guy couldnt've have had some pull with local realtors, and I hear the outlands go on forever so there has got to be enough space. Is there an "Outland Heights" outside the city where it's cleaner but more expensive to live and they have good schools?
We could maybe extrapolate an answer by how tall the tower that has the EOL club at the top is as it appears to Flynn from his safehouse, Only the EOL club is atop a mile-high tower, and the tower doesn't quite look that high even when we see it closer. . Maybe they count it's height above the basement level of the city rather than how high it is above the ground level. I have some bare idea what I'm talking about , as a guy from Chicago who often went up into the Sears (and it will ALWAYS be the Sears, as far as i am concerned) Tower and the John Hancock Building over the twenty-one years I lived there countless times, usually both in the same day. They don't seem anywhere a mile high but they seem almost comparable in height to what the EOL club looks like. The Sears is 1,451 fete high, which puts it at just over 1/4th mile high. The EOL tower would have to be four times as tall as that. I guess you'd just have to stand next to something like the SEARS to get an idea how tall that really is. To look up at it from the ground is by itself dizzying.
At 1471 official feet, the SEARS Tower is the highest building in the US. It is just over

I really dont think the outlands go on forever, there would have to be a end to them. And where did you hear the EOL club tower is a mile high? Or maybe in the Grid a mile is less?

I also read somewhere the club was a mile high in linear measurements. THE tallest building on the Grid. And wasn't there an underbelly to the city, so maybe Moses has a plausible idea. I may have seen that in the book but not sure.

It's got to be pretty tall, if the club itself is on the 447th floor or something like that. (I don't think it looks that tall in the film, but okay) So say each floor is ten feet... that's almost 4500 feet tall, so, yeah, that's near to a mile.
I think the safehouse looks like it's many miles away, personally.

I mean, you can see the whole city from there. Easily. When you're up high like they are, you can see a long way. My mom lives on the 12th floor of her building, and trust me, from up there you can see a large city 20 miles away easily, and can recognize key landmarks even without binoculars. On the 4th of July we watched fireworks from at least 7 to 10 different cities at once, and they didn't seem as far away as they no doubt were.

I read in some Disney fanzine as well as on their TL official site and at the Tron wiki that the EOL club is atop a mile-high tower. They make devices for helping one to determine the height of a tree based on how far you are from it, you viewing height and viewing angle. Maybe I or someone less lazy than me could work it backwards that way for the EOL tower.

Devices? Ha. Who needs them? Mr. Euclid laughs at the thought. It's called geometry.
Unfortunately, since we don't know the viewing angle, it won't help us much to try to work it out. Which is good, 'cause I'm lazy too.

Isn't it possible to see anything of the range between TRON city and hide out on the grid-scribble in Flynns office?

Here are the screencaps of Flynn's map. Don't think the safehouse would be on there, though. Even if he created it before he got trapped, there's probably not a reason to include something personal on there. I didn't pore over the pics to find out, though. I think we'd need the actual map put out by Disney that someone posted.
